Some minor bumps in the road getting settled but some of that was getting used to how they do things, what to expect, etc

The food served at The Whitcomb is subpar and often inedible. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful.

Everyone has been good to work with. The new owners have been doing upgrades and overdue maintenance that was not done by the previous owners. The food isn't what I would call restaurant quality but with so many to feed. They do offer some simpler options. They increased mom's care and adjusted billing to accommodate her. But the staff on her floor have been great when I'm there. Many say how they love her and enjoy what sense of humor she has left. She is in hospice but still resides there. So I am grateful for that. The only downside is that if she runs out of money, they do not accept Medicaid.

Overall part of the lower score is the long learning curve with the different shifts and not being made aware of protocol. For instance requesting multiple times no soda with meals and replacing it with milk. Prob took 2 months to get that right. The large horse pill given daily should be broke in 1/2 to make it easier to swallow instead of having to ask when staff brings it. Regularly staff will tell the resident I'll be right back and they don't come back. There is to long of a learning curve between Caring Circle instructions and the staff. Having said that it is also a learning curve between family understanding or being told how things work. Example, asking for an anxiety pill to staff and not ever getting it. Staff doesn't explain that directive must come from Caring Circle. Without their direction they don't give the medication or opposite. Telling staff the resident doesn't want morphine and continuing to administer it because Caring Circle has not requested it be stopped. But for the resident being frustrated that their wishes aren't being heard/followed because no one told them the protocol. My Godmother had the same breakfast for a month straight. The family did not realize they could request something different.

So far our experience has been very good. They were very responsive when she contracted Covid shortly after she moved in, and handled the situation appropriately. They always seem to know her whereabouts when we can't reach her on her phone, which is important to us. We love all the activities they have for the residents and enjoy being able to see photos of her participating in them on their website.

Everything is working out great for my loved one at The Whitcomb. They have served the community for over 40 years. My loved one has settled in well and made a lot of friends with the other residents. I would recommend this facility to others and already have to a co-worker of mine.
This is a great place to put your loved ones. The staff are friendly, and the community is clean. They have decent meals for the residents. They have lots of activities for the residents to keep them engaged. In fact, I have to schedule an appointment with my loved one to see them due to them staying busy with activities. It would be nice to see more staff in the community.

My loved one was well cared for up until her passing. We followed the suggestion to move her to the 2nd floor where the nurses station was as she was having issues on the 3rd floor apartment with falling and needing more assistance. While the staff was in and out of my mom's apartment, nothing came up missing. Keep in mind, just like a hotel room, you don't keep valuables there. Residents were very friendly and loved on her. Social activities abound but mom was refusing to use a wheelchair toward the end so her socializing was limited. She started in a much smaller apartment which she promptly overfilled with furnishings so I would advise if you can afford it, to start with a larger apartment (which also has a larger bathroom. Thank you to the staff for seeing my mom through to her homecoming and the great care you gave her while a resident there.

The Whitcomb is a good place for those who are completely independent and aware of their surroundings. They offer levels of care for those who need a bit more assistance as well as an occasional check in. However, this also means that staff are in and out of the residents rooms and have access to their belongings. There is a significant theft issue which goes unaddressed by management. The general staff is overall friendly but many of the "assistants" are on the job trained and payed poorly. This results in a big turn over. The Whitcomb rides on it's name and popularity however there are issues which they hope do not become public.

Things have worked out very well at The Whitcomb for our loved one! The facility itself is located in a beautiful area overlooking Lake Michigan with a lot of nice areas for walks. What really struck us about The Whitcomb is how friendly all of the residents have been to our loved one! Every seemed eager to get to know the "new kid on the block", and she really seemed to enjoy all the attention!
