Very, very kind. Everyone. I've been really pleased with all staff. Can't talk to the skilled nursing or memory care, but the rest of the staff is wonderful. I 100% recommend The Virginian. Best place that we looked at. It's beautiful after all of the renovations.

The staff with which I interact on a daily basis is great! I am in independent living and my apartment is cleaned weekly. Because I am independent living, although certainly there is need to have a contact person, there has been no need for the facility to exercise that "need" in the year I have been here. The meals are good. Portions are good. Certainly there are times/items that are not quite what I wanted/expected, there has be no situation where I have returned a meal nor filed a complaint. This was the first place that my family and I visited and we concluded there was no reason to go further. I would recommend The Virginian to others.

Our family had an in person tour with The Virginian and the tour experience as well as the community was very nice, but for our loved one we just wanted a little smaller of a community.
We toured this facility during our search for an Independent Living facility for our loved one. This facility was initially our second choice, but then my loved one was sent here for rehabilitation and it was an awful experience. They are remodeling there; it will be very nice looks-wise but not friendly and not good care. More costly too.
The renovations are way behind from what they represented during the sales presentation, food is disappointing. My father passed away while there and the assisted living staff took excellent care of him. He was only there for 30 days. I would absolutely still recommend The Virginian to others, The people here are wonderful. Just a tough time with all of the renovations.

There are have been a lot of transitions in staff and new construction inside building. The dining room has been under construction for a year. The new chef is trying to improve the overall quality.

This community is great for me … I cannot guarantee that for everyone. Everyone here is friendly, the location is perfect for my current needs, and I don't believe I am lacking anything that I would expect the community to provide. I would recommend to be sure to know as much as you are able about what you want. Read all of the literature from any potential communities before you visit. Ask lots of questions. When visiting, notice ALL interactions between staff and residents and residents and residents.

Our family had an in person tour and it was an extremely nice tour experience, the community is very luxurious but incredible expensive which is the reason we were not able to have our loved one move there.
The best senior living community I have ever set foot in. Staff that are attentive and truly want to be there. The residents are very active and the programming is focused on encouraging a diverse and upbeat lifestyle. Would highly recommend if you're looking for modern independent living.

Excellent staff and very kind, welcoming residents. The attention to detail and focus on an active and high-end programming was the best sell. They are undergoing a large renovation which already looks beautiful. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a place for their loved ones.

We've had mixed results. The good things are the level of care they offer from independent all the way to long term nursing is a benefit; it makes it easy as your parent(s) progress. The first group of staff we met were super friendly, very helpful and very encouraging. Their sales staff helped us in our decision to come here. I would tell others that you probably don't want to move in until next Summer because they are going through major construction. They are reconstructing the entire facility on the outside and inside; that includes every floor, every unit, every apartment, every wing, the common areas, the dining hall, the front door, etc.. Cleanliness is kind of a mess right now and that's been hard for my parents. It's confusing because certain halls are closed and the elevators go up and down, but not side to side. The front lobby/door is closed until Spring. There are certain things that would make it super hard for anyone wanting to move in right now. On the care side, I've had to be really pushy to get communication and clarity on who is responsible for making decisions, changes, and so forth. They've had a lot of changes in staffing, their current staff are temps from corporate. The chef is brand new which is why the food is up and down. Maybe next year once everything is done it will be better, but right now it's a little challenging.

There was a lot of construction going on when we came to tour the facility. When I mentioned my loved ones needs they suggested memory care and that would restrict her a lot so I knew that was not going to work for her. It was a good tour, just not the right fit for us.
Make sure you clearly understand what is meant by independent living vs. assisted living. They were able to provide more care than we expected, but we weren't expecting extra fees for those services. I'm looking forward to when all the renovations are completed and more dining rooms are available. I'm also looking forward to having more activities are going on once Covid restrictions end. The staff have been very responsive. My loved one hasn't been liking the dinners lately, the meat specifically, but she loves the breakfasts.

This was so far the best situation for my mom, but she is unsure about caring for her dog here. We are keeping our options open on The Virginian. [name removed] was super helpful and gave us delicious salsa from the chef.

Review on the Virginian, Fairfax VA. Our mom who is 99 and lives with us, just returned home to us from over 5 weeks of in-patient rehab, post surgery, at the Virginian, after falling and breaking her hip. Words of praise like extraordinary, outstanding, caring, professional, and even loving, just don’t do service to the care our mom received over this period. Many in our family and group of friends thought “OMG, this is it for her,” based on how often our aging parents just don’t have the will and energy to keep fighting the daily grinds of life after such an accident. Yet, in our opinion, while our mom is known for her grittiness and competitiveness, we believe the value the Virginian staff brought to “the table,” far exceeded either what we expected or even thought possible. And it made a HUGE impact on the morale and willingness of mom to hang in there and do the work required to get back home. Without exception, every single one of the many who served mom were “serving up their A game at every opportunity.” Their encouragement, sense of humor, occasionally tugging mom’s chain (who also pulled their chain), amazing ability to judge just the proper therapy to suit her ability and mood, were incredulous to watch. Of the 50 or so combined OT/PT sessions, her daughter or son-in law, attended some 95%. So, our opinion is not based on a few random encounters where the staff might have been on best behavior. Rather, the staff, to a person, truly cares about the welfare, both physical and mental of each patient. Our mom even raved about how good the food is, especially the soup. Ha! We objectively rate the Virginian 10 stars out of five. Staff is universally engaged, helpful, and cheerful - not one 'bad egg'. They really 'lean forward' to assist, anticipating issues and problems. Especially good 'onboarding' processes, with resident shepherds for the first couple of weeks to help new folks break in. Food is pretty good, with lunch being the weakest and most monotonous - dinner is almost always excellent. Extremely safe and clean throughout. Setting is pleasant and quiet. Excellent library - always a big help. My only criticisms: I do wish there were more activities, especially out-of-building experiences and road trips. Also, medical processes of all types for "independent" residents are kind of disjointed and uneven. It's all there - you just have to figure out how to access it. In summary, we looked at a LOT of facilities all across NOVA, over a year-long period, and selected The Virginian for a balance of reasons - I still think we got it right, for my Mom.

A Place for Mom has scored The Virginian 8.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
