I am well pleased with the facility. The activity director is fantastic. She keeps the residents busy with activities and trips. The staff interact with the residents and my husband enjoys their attention. The staff seem to get along well with each other and work hard to meet the needs of the residents. The facility got new management last year and new staff. It has made quite a difference in my opinion. My only complaint is the laundry being put in various places but I’m sure my husband is responsible for the problem. I’m sure the staff do the best they can. I wish I could eliminate the smell in his room. The main areas are decorated beautifully for the seasons and the resident's work.... Read more

Always short staffed. She fell twice that I knew of and lay on the floor for hours before she was found. Never engaged her in any activity. Never tried to get her to eat, it was awful and so under educated.

My sister has been a resident here for close to two years. Initially, I was concerned as it was further away from where I live than I wanted. However, once I visited the facility and noted its cleanliness and nice furnishings, I felt reassured it was the the right place for her. I have been reassured over and over again of this not only due to the facility itself. Indeed, the primary reason is due to the hearts of all the staff. Residents truly become part of an extended family with staff going above and beyond to show loving and kindness to the residents. I will be forever grateful to and for all of them.

Response from The Rutherford Memory Care
June 21, 2023Thank you so much for taking the time to do this review. We love our residents and care about our family's feedback.
My sister has been in mc for about 8 mos. I can't give the facility and staff enough praise and gratitude. When she went there she had some anger issues and refused to get out of bed! They have gotten her meds figured out and she smiles and is up an dressed every time I go to visit. I can't ask for anything more. The staff keeps me informed on her progress and when the Dr. changes anything. For the first time in along time I know I can rest assured she is safe and in good hands. VERY greatful for them

Response from The Rutherford Memory Care
June 21, 2023Thank you so much for taking the time to do this review. I am glad to hear you are happy! We love our Rutherford Family!
The staff are very nice and caring to the patients. We picked this community because of the convenience of the location.I would recommend more social activities to keep their minds active. The memory care staff are very nice. And the nurses also. I loved the fact that a nurse was there.

Their on staff doctor was very unreliable and unreachable. He prescribed a medicine we could not afford and would not work with the drug company in order for us to join a financial aid program. He just left us high and dry. I do not recommend Rutherford Memory Care I can't speak towards the care giver staff. The experience with the doctor is what caused me to not even consider them.
My mom was declined placement at our first choice, but Rutherford quickly “came to our rescue”. Red flag? Probably. Second night, got call my mom had fallen. Every night, a call would come that she had fallen but “she was fine” or she bumped her head. Her last day, she had multiple falls…VM said, she’s “OK”. A couple hours later, a call comes that my mother passed away. Strange. My mother was very ill. She was on Hospice and had dementia which is why a skilled/experienced staff in memory care was so important. So why didn’t the lead nurse or anyone on staff understand that My mom was ALWAYS going to get out of bed on her own. I told staff. I told administrators in advance when talking about residency. For a couple of weeks the “experienced staff” DID NOT understand why my mom wouldn’t/couldn’t ring the bell or read the “call before you fall” sign before she got up. This is only 1K characters worth!

The staff that was there were great, but there were about 25% of the staff needed. This is a lovely place. The food is ok, but not great. The staff is lovely but there just aren't enough of them to care for the number of residents they have. The community kept my loved one safe, but my loved one could have been cared for better with the appropriate staff.

The Rutherford, like all of the places we toured, could have been a viable place for our loved one. It seemed like a good facility. It seemed to provide the same level of service and care as the other places we toured. We chose based on proximity to where we live.
I would not put anyone in this facility. It was a good tour but it was dirty, dark and just seemed run down. We had a friend who had a loved one here and they did not have a good experience.

October 13, 2022Thank you for your feedback. We have new administration and maintenance in the building, who are focusing on the upkeep of the building. We are working diligently to improve.
The value for the money is pretty good. Everything seems to be good, and there has been a lot of interaction. I chose this place because it doesn't give a hospital-type atmosphere, like other places that I have visited.

I am happy with our experience. The community has been good at making this the best transition for my loved one and family, during a difficult a time. It may not be the newest or fanciest, but overall the people that work here have tried to assist my loved one in getting settled into the community and taking care of them. The staff communication with the family is very good. The community provides lots of activities for the residents to participate in.

Response from The Rutherford Memory Care
July 27, 2022Thank you for taking the time to give us this review. We love each and every one of our residents and families.
The Rutherford is not a huge community and they really helped us with the transition, we really appreciated all of their help. Everything about this community is positive and for everything they have done for our loved one and family so far it is a great value. We do have one little thing and that is sometimes they don't return calls quick enough but we do understand just how busy they are

Response from The Rutherford Memory Care
June 9, 2022Thank you so much for your feedback. We are working to improve response time.
I like the size of the facility. Memory care has 20 patients. My Mom is so happy where she is. They could improve on providing the facility more caring for. This is a locked memory care unit and is located on the first floor. I really like the activities director as she is very engaging. They offer a calendar of activities monthly. One of the activities involve a memory game using photographs of family and friends, and I know my loved one will love that.

June 9, 2022Anne, Thank you for feedback. We love our residents and will work on those concerns.
When you walk into the lobby of the community it smells faintly like bleach which was a good thing. That meant there was no fowls smells and it was cleaned regularly. The staff members are very friendly. Unfortunately due to covid we were never able to eat a meal there, but based off their menu the food looked pretty good. They had sing a longs, bingo, and our loved one was a retired veteran and he was able to sit down and talk with other retired veterans at the community which was really nice.

Response from The Rutherford Memory Care
June 9, 2022We are very blessed to have all our wonderful residents and family members!
Very secure. Set up is in 4 pods. Activities were going on, and residents seemed happy and staff seamed attentive. The downfall is the dinginess of the entire unit. The respite room smelled musty, and carpet clearly was soiled. Also, had a hotel style a/c unit which was smelly. I actually broke down and cried as I know that this will be a place I will eventually have to place my mom. In summary, I gave 3 stars for the staff, but was not impressed with the building at all.

This is by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. My Mom has dementia and she needed additional care. I looked around and checked out other facilities in my area and so many things made Sunnington my place for Mom! She has really adjusted well and is enjoying everything. She loves the food the staff and the fact that everything is taken care of for her has made her more relaxed and she is really happy and proud to live there. When her old neighbors or any family comes to visit she loves to show them around. I can't thank you enough for your help when I really needed someone to talk to and guide me in the right direction. My prayers are with all the family's that will be going through this same process.

A Place for Mom has scored The Rutherford Memory Care 7.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
