My wife and I have lived at The Peninsula Regent for five years and have never regretted our decision to move here. We compared it with many others in the Bay Area and found that it was superior in terms of location, price, and--most important of all--the friendliness of the residents. The Regent has Independent Living and Assisted Living, but no Skilled Nursing or Memory Care. We realized when we moved in that if our health deteriorated beyond what Assisted Living could provide, we might have to relocate elsewhere. However, the reasons to live here were so compelling that we chose this as our place to retire. Currently, the interior of our building is being upgraded with a new look, and we have a new chef who has improved the quality of our meals. There are plenty of activities to choose from. We're very glad we're able to enjoy all that the Peninsula Regent has to offer.... Read more

TPR is a wonderful place - great staff, food, and convenient location. I have two major issues: 1) TPR has 3 reasons they can require you to move out. Since these reasons are fairly common among older people, you should think hard about whether you want to be in a place that can make you move at age 90. This is what is happening to my parents and it's heartbreaking. I do not recommend it! Find a place that has a continuum of care and allows people to die in place. 2) TPR has unusual and (in my opinion) immoral financial policies. If you choose or are required to leave, you will still have to pay the monthly fees until your unit sells (very difficult in the current market). In addition, you have to pay TPR a 10% transfer fee based on what you originally paid for the unit (NOT what you are able to sell it for). My parents, in addition to incurring a huge loss on the sale of their unit, will also pay an enormous fee to TPR. Until these policies change, I do not recommend moving to TPR.

A Place for Mom has scored The Peninsula Regent 6.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
