The residence compared well to other SF residences and we had high hopes for my mother when she joined the community 3 years ago. However, they were chronically understaffed, turned over management companies, management staff, and pharmacy management 3 times in 3 years. While there are definitely caring staff on the team, it was incredibly difficult to get consistent information on care being provided to my mother. When we finally made the hard decision to move my mother elsewhere, we were ghosted by management and have yet to receive the refunds for unused rent and care fees. Disappointing way to close out our experience.

Response from The Ivy at Golden Gate
June 18, 2024Hi Anonymous, thank you for your kind words and this wonderful review! Your recommendation means a lot to us. Thank you for taking the time to let others know about your positive experience.
We picked this community, because of the location. The tour experience was excellent, and the facility was spacious. Respite, furnished room was available immediately after release from the hospital. Provided easy transition to senior living Permanente residency.Director provided easy, supportive assistance in hospital discharge, Ivy residency.

Cypress was a nice community but they were telling me that my aunt would need 24-hour care in addition. It was going to me so much more expensive and they would still try to separate my aunt and uncle when we wanted to keep them together.

From the very first tour with Ashley, my mom felt at home at Vintage Golden Gate. We toured many other facilities and none of them had the same feeling. Most were depressing, unfriendly and/or inappropriate for her needs. It took a while to for my mom to actually move in, but once she finally did, she couldn't be happier. It is very expensive, but luckily my mom had purchased Long Term Care Insurance to help cover the cost. Every staff member has been kind and helpful. We are completely at ease with her care. She has already made many friends with the staff and residents.

Near Golden Gate Park, nice area, lots of trees, etc. Fees for 1 bedroom beginning around 5,000. Lots of activities...Seniors residing there are active and enjoy doing things, going on outings daily. Leslie will tour in a couple fo weeks

Most staff are very friendly, with occasional lapses in service (too busy to help dress; slow, slow kitchen sometimes); coordination of offsite pharmacy and medicine technicians could be better; like in any health care setting, patient advocacy (usually a family member) is essential (especially during the initial period) to insuring that the care is appropriate, complete and timely. Supervisory staff & management are very responsive.

I thought it was very lovely but they layout would have been too confusing for my sister-in-law to deal with. It was a beautiful place and the people were really nice. The apartment wasn't as nice and the layout wasn't very self contained - not like the other Vintage location, Vintage Coventry.

I met with Ashley and toured the premises. I like that this facility has a few outdoor areas and liked the units. It is an attractive property and because it is set back off the street, very quiet. The location is good because it is in San Francisco, but the cost is not much lower than Coventry and there are typically annual increases that range from 3% to 6%.

The rooms were nice. We like it and my mom liked it but it was quite a bit more expensive. Really nice though.

Met with Al Oliveros, move-in coordinator. Beautiful facility - bright, spacious. Cheery lobby with music. Friendly people. About 118 rooms, 130 people of whom 60% are independent and 40% are assisted living. Average age is 76. A NJ club. Several practicing Jews so shabbat dinners. Dog can visit. Facility is almost 12 years old. 3 meals, housekeeping weekly, launder sheets and personal laundry. No cable and no phone (need to pay extra). Assessment of mom's status probably on move in. Fixed hours for meals; tea room is open 24 hours. 3 courtyards. There are steps in some places, but alternative ways to get from one area to another without stairs. Big bathroom - but little step to enter shower - bolted shower bench. 1 BR $5510 pm, Studio on 1st floor is $5300. Can adjust heat in each room. $4,000 community fee. Rate disclosure shows increase from 1.2% to 4% to 3.5% over 2010-2012 and states monthly will typically increase between 4%-8%. Rooms have microwave, small refrigerator/freezer and sink. Closets in studio are not as spacious as in 1 BR. Goal is to get people out of rooms and into the activities.

This is my first choice. Mother is becoming more amenable to a visit, but has not quite reached that point yet.

Vintage Golden Gate was another top of the line care facility.Very nice local, gardens were beautiful, staff very friendly, and like Alma Via the residents were very happy.I toured at dinner time and food smelled delicious. Once again though the cost seems to be a problem for my stepDad.

A Place for Mom has scored The Ivy at Golden Gate 8.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
