Nursing care has been very inconsistent. Anyone who needs a lot of care, I do not recommend no matter how much they say they can meet their needs My mother is now independent enough to wait for what she needs, but when she had more needs, it was very fair care. The personal care attendants rotate often and very few are CNA's or Personal care attendants. Most help is limited to personal care help. Even when you are scheduled to just have bed made, you may wait until 4pm. I feel like no one is holding personal care helpers accountable. This has been my only complaint. As long as someone can be an advocate for care, and they need minimal assistance, this place will be a safe place to stay... Read more

I would give them 5s across the board. I didn't interact with them much as Dad was being disrespectful to me but he was well cared for while there. Based on the experience we have had, we would definitely recommend this community to other families.

All through the sales process we were assured that my mother would love it there. We were clear with the sales people about Mom's physical limitations throughout the process. A Place for Mom kept pushing us towards The Grande. After stringing us along for over a month they decided Mom didn't "fit" in the community. The kicker? They never called or communicated their decision. I had to call them. That's when I found out. If your loved one needs ASSISTANCE, this is not the place for you.

The Harbor Chase of South Portland is very knowledgeable about residents with dementia and how to handle them. They walk you through the process and explain how it works. The housekeeping and laundry are done once a week for the residents. Excellent service and great staff! [Name removed] is awesome to talk to about any issues and very quick with an answer. The food is very good and each resident has $750 to spend on food every month that is incorporated in the cost of Assisted Living. Also, there is a plan called Sound that you can put in place for people with dementia issues. It helps them with dealing with dementia issues and keeps their mind occupied to help them. I would highly recommend The Harbor Chase of South Portland to anyone who has a parent going through these problems like dementia. Everything is included, which helps us incredibly!

They are understaffed. Woefully unqualified people from temp agencies dispensing vital medications to the residents. You pay thousands a month for a level of care that they fail to provide. If you want your loved one to be taken care of, don’t choose Harbor Chase.

Things have been going much better now for several months. Facility is one of if not the best in the area. Staff is very friendly and attentive. (My brother moved into HC in Feb 2022 when they had been open only 4 months, so we experienced some growing pains, staff shortages, and miscommunications.)

We enjoyed the tour of HarborChase of South Portland and it is a beautiful community. We felt the community was a little too fancy for my loved one, though.
Great options to take the shuttle bus. Creates an environment to promote socialization, specifically the bar.

I thought we found a perfect place for my Mom and Dad, who both needed memory care. We moved them from SC, and on [date removed], after already furnishing two rooms and gathering all of the paperwork, I sat with the director of marketing, to sign the contract. She went through the contract mentioning EVERY cost that was above and beyond the monthly fee, including small fees that were valid and acceptable. When we got to the signature page I signed my name and felt a huge relief. I started to pay the amount for the first month, and AS I PUT MY PEN TO PAPER, She said “Don’t forget to add the non-refundable entrance fee!” It was an ADDITIONAL $[amount removed]. I said right away that she had never mentioned the fee. She was very dismissive, and I quote “Oh, it’s in the contract like....three times”. I spoke with the Executive Director. She was apologetic and promised that she would speak with the corporate office.. Never been able to reach her again. See my other reviews for more.

Very attentive to my loved, one every time my mom falls they have openly communicated with me. They are very open and honest with what is going on with my loved one. I would recommend them highly. The residents get 3 meals a day, they have choices to choose room and have the option to eat in their room or in the dinning area.

I toured this facility and it is beautiful inside and out, nice wide hallways, clean, friendly staff. It's definitely more expensive than a lot of other places in the area. But it was very nice!
This review is for the memory care side of the facility. I think they need to provide more transparency about the price. The policy that any fall requires the residents to be taken to the ER by ambulance is a terrible policy. My loved one fell 3 times in the first week because they weren't watching closely. Each time the ambulance ride costed $295 each way. That was $1500 I had to spend in the first week. If that kept happening, it would have become even more experience. When I found out about the policy, I immediately started looking at other places. The facility is beautiful, but the upstairs felt like a warehouse. I did not see much interaction between staff and residents. They had a small TV in the TV room and it was old remotes that I could not even figure out myself. All in all it was not a good experience. If your loved on is a vet, please check out the VA home. It is a totally different experience.

For someone looking for light assistance or moderate help, I think it is an amazing facility. My loved one does need the highest level of care so my opinion is a bit jaded, but they really have been wonderful. It is a brand new facility and is super clean. The staff really are helpful, [name removed]] the admissions director especially was amazing and made the whole move in process easier. I would absolutely recommend HarborChase of South Portland to other families.

The staff is great here, I really like them. They work very hard. The facility is clean. They provide good meals. They do offer a good variety of activities. I especially like that they take the residents outside on the deck for exercise. They have live music performers come in and Zumba class. My sister really enjoys the music from both. The memory care unit really seems to be short staffed, though. We've had to call about a couple of concerns and the response time is not timely. My sister's room is pretty clean, but could be better. Especially the shower. They do have a hairdresser that comes in and offers services for an additional fee, if you'd like. She called and introduced herself when my sister first moved in. She offered her services, but we declined as we felt it wasn't needed. We've had a couple issues with the finance office that we are still trying to get worked out. We've been charged for salon services (which we had already declined) twice so far, so we had to call about that and are still waiting. Also, the facility offered to pay for the moving company/expenses when we moved her in. The day of, the moving company didn't want to wait for payment and the business office said it's something they pay but not the day of. We ended up paying for it out of pocket and were told by the finance office that we'd be reimbursed, but are still waiting on that reimbursement also. I don't want it to seem like I'm giving a bad review or don't recommend them. I just want people to be aware of the issues we've had so that it might help them. Overall, I would recommend the facility for assisted living, but probably not memory care. Mostly due to the short staffing.

We had a very good tour experience with HarborChase of South Portland - it just ended up not being the right fit for my loved one. The staff were all great but it just came down to what my loved one felt most comfortable with and another facility seemed to fit the needs just a bit better. She also wanted to stay close to where she grew up so the location played a factor in the decision as well.
Read MoreFor the memory care: if you're loved one is capable of taking care of their own space for the most part, then it's a good fit. They do not seem to go in and make sure my mom has showered everyday. She forgets to, which is why she is in memory care - so that's one of our bigger complaints. Other than that, her room is clean, but that may be on account of herself. They do make sure her she's getting her meals and medication(s), but the hands-on care may be a result of my mom refusing care. For the most part they are taking good care of her.

Our experience so far with HarboChase has been really good and one of the special things about this place is they allowed our loved one to bring their dog. They have been very supportive of this decision, the staff will help walk the dog and even use the dog for therapy occasionally. It is a little expensive because when you need additionally services it can be a little costly

I toured HarborChase and had an average experience. The community had not yet opened, so I wasn't able to see the actual property. Instead we saw a mobile "model" with pictures of a different resort. It was a lot of glam and the price reflected that. It was a bit outside of our budget, but I believe that's mainly because of how "fancy" it is.
