I selected The Charleston Senior Living community for my loved one after my first visit. The staff was exceptional in taking my family and I on a tour of the facility and explaining all of the services that are provided. I was pleased with the facility, the services, and the staff. My loved one has been in place for the last 3 month and has adjusted well. No matter what position staffing holds, they are all very pleasant and attentive. The facility is clean and well maintained. Housekeeping empties the trash in the residents rooms daily and cleans their rooms weekly. Laundry is completed (if selected) weekly. The room sizes are adequate for one person. I had read on previous reviews that the rooms were small, however, I find the rooms are adequate for the resident as long as you don’t over furnish. The food is phenomenal!! I am very pleased with all of my interactions at The Charleston and think the fees are reasonable and practical for the services obtained. I would highly recommend!... Read more

I have no other experience with any other facility. That being said they have been outstanding in caring for my mom.. I would highly recommend The Charleston Senior Community to other families based on the experience we have had.

My family and mine experience has been very positive as we have a safe place for my Aunt. The Charleston was not only good for my Aunt, but also for our family as everyone who is supporting her are in their early or mid career and the stress of juggling schedules to take care of her was having a toll on our health and careers. We picked The Charleston because of the personal interaction they provided, flexibility in setting a move in date, additional information they provided on Assisted Living to educate us, and at the time of need, they were running a special that helped us financially as we had to close out her prior living arrangements while at the same time find Assisted Living for her.

The staff members at The Charleston Senior Community were friendly and the meals and dining service was great. The activities were limited due to COVID, but the quality of care was outstanding. Based on the experience we had with the community we have already recommend them to others and will continue to do so.

We had a pretty rocky start during the move in process - they could improve on their onboarding process and their rules. The rules seem to be quite rigid which made the experience quite overwhelming. However we do really like the people there and we have fun with them.
We had to take our loved one out of The Charleston. She was not getting the care that she should have been. She had things missing from in her room that we cannot get back. It just was not a very good experience for my family. As of now she is at [community name removed] and we have no complaints. They are taking care of her, and we could not be happier.
Overall our family did not have a good experience with The Charleston, we were concerned with the odor in the community and the response time of management - it was poorly.
The experience has been excellent so far. It is a very active community and they encourage the residents to go to the activities. They have things like card games, exercise classes, bird feeders, etc. My mother says the food is like a 5 star restaurant and she really likes it. The cost is reasonable for what is provided. My mother was apprehensive of the big change, but with where she is at we feel confident that she is in good hands. There are 2 residents here who she had been friends with years ago so that has also made her feel more comfortable. Overall I would recommend The Charleston Senior Community to others looking.

Everyone down there has been extremely helpful. Everyone is pleasant. The food is outstanding. They have a lot of activities. But the care is the most important thing. And everyone really takes care of my loved one, a heck of a lot better than I was able to do. They're doing a good job with the Covid situation, checking people in and being on top of everything. I would highly recommend them.

The people are the best part of this community. They are helpful, pleasant, and caring. My loved one has been in since June and the staff have all be positive to work with. The community will try and work with dietary restrictions. The activities and some food options are being limited due to the pandemic.

I was impressed with everything about The Charleston other than the price. If I had to do it over again I might go with them, they insisted on memory care on the get go for my loved which ended up being what was needed.
I would highly recommend this community to those that have parents that need this type of care or assistance. The community used to be a hotel and the rooms have their own bathrooms with a walk in shower. There are rooms available that have a bathtub.

Other than the outside, the community is pretty clean. Some of the staff is friendly and some not so much. We felt the staff was under-trained and underpaid. It seemed like in the memory care area, there was not much in the way of activities. They seemed to place the residents in the common areas and turn on the TV and that was it. In the beginning, they would do things like bring in outside entertainment, but as time went on this dwindled. The community seemed like an ok value since they were a little cheaper than other places in the area, however we did not think there was enough attention given to the residents.

I have found The Charleston to be a very responsive and proactive community. They are very good at communicating with families. I have had no issues. The food is hit or miss. My mom is a bit of a picky eater. Room sizes are good.

Without a doubt more welcoming than any others. Changed my feelings about senior care. I am actually excited for my mom's new adventure. Thank you Charleston for making this transition so positive.

I am very appreciative to The Charleston. This was my father's first home after his major stroke. Everyone here is quite loving and patient. There are plenty activities and the facility is very clean.

My mother resides at this residence for a year and a half. The rooms are spacious with large windows and the dining area is attractive with fresh flowers on a regular basis. A lot of the aides are lovely and enjoy working with the elderly. About 20% are uncaring, lazy and unsympathetic. To the point of putting the residents at risk. This has happened to my mother on more than one occasion. Even when I filed a complaint those aides continued their employment. They don’t care about excellence, just numbers ( which are also lacking) The executive director stays in his office and only knows the residents on paper or he deals with their families. He is never seen with residents except on promotional videos and commercials. In fact when my mother passed away, we got many condolences from aides, therapists and other residents but none from the administration. No card, no call, no email. They are primarily concerned about re filling the rooms. Also, when the cost and level of care rises, the actual level of care remains the same which is not initially explained to the residents and their families. Even the aides have no idea what level of care each resident is on. If you have a loved one that doesn’t have great needs and can get around on their own, it might be a pick for you. Otherwise, I don’t recommend this place.

There are some good people working there, but most of the staff on the memory care unit sit around and socialize with each other instead of interacting with the residents. And when you ask the staff a question, a lot of them don't know anything. And when you try to find their supervisor, he is no where to be found.

A Place for Mom has scored The Charleston Senior Community 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
