MEALS: All nutrition in vegetables is cooked out, due to over-over cooking. Personally? We do not eat pork (I know, it's personal preference), a lot of meals are pork and bacon is added to a lot of dishes/sides. I realize pork is cheap and economical. Chicken is also overcooked and hard to chew (yes, I have teeth). Salads are nice and nutritional. ACTIVITIES: After 3 pm and evenings, there are no activities offered. No get togethers or games. Weekends there is nothing unless you have friends or relatives to come and take you places. Transportation is offered M-W-F, only between 8 & noon, no afternoon appointments. VALUE FOR COST: For those barely surviving on Social Security and a small pension, it seems expensive, since any extras you might want to enjoy, you have to have money to purchase. Not complaining, just stating a fact for some of us who are struggling and have to families to help provide little extras like; transportation, eating out, extra food purchases, personal and etc.... All the residents seem to have their ups and downs. Some complain about food, some wander around aimlessly, some are happy as clams. Most are in a better spot than living on their own. All necessary doctors, hospital and clinics are VERY close to the home, most within walking distance. The general area is in the mid-lower income neighborhood but safety in the area doesn't seem to be any issue. I visited a few places within a 60 mile radius and found this one to be the best value for the money. Would recommend

This was a very temporary living situation for my sister not really an appropriate placement for her but they made an exception for us based on her age. I think the community was great! Low rating on care services only because my sister's needs could not be met in this type of facility. Too independent for her.

The staff, and people are nice. I picked this community because it's near my daughter, and the price is right. It's affordable , and the food is okay. The transporation services and activities are minimal.

Everyone makes the new comers feel welcome and included. There are many activities to do and be involved in participating is up to the individual. Sutter Estates is independent living; not assisted but the staff are very aware that many residents have various needs and limitations that they help them with and navigate. My mom doesn't drive so having transportation to medical appointments is a blessing. They also will drive them to do their shopping for personal items as well. The residents can decorate their apartments and make it their own.

This is a good community. They have friendly staff, all else is satisfactory. There are three meals a day served. The optional choices available are limited items. Meals are fine though under seasoned and meat overcooked often. I have not been through the kitchen here. Please note I cooked as a hobby for many years. Many different styles and mostly for family. I have no experience with large services seven days a week.

Sutter Estates is a very friendly, hospitable, and welcoming community. The apartment is very nice. The only negative report from Mom is that the food needs better flavor.

I love this community. We have really hard working staff. This community really looks out for each other and helps on another. I really like that. The food is a challenge for a vegetarian or special diet. There's just not a lot of variety available unless you pay extra for other things. They have an ok variety of activities. Communication with the staff is really good. Housekeeping is weekly, they do a pretty deep clean and do a great job. They empty trash daily. One suggestion I have would be to include phone and cable in the monthly cost, it's really expensive having to pay for it as an extra charge. Overall, I would recommend them to family and friends.

MOST of the current employees at Sutter Estates are absolutely the worst both personally and professionally. The director of the property ([name removed]) is a snooty, unfriendly and unprofessional person. She makes no time for her employees (unless she really likes you and feels you fit her mold) or residents (unless your the upper echelon of Sutter Co) . I had a relative living there that we decided should no longer be apart of this community. It was frightening to see the lack of care for staff and residents and favoritism that was happening on all sides. Further, the Director was known for “hob-nobbing” with the well known residents living at Sutter Estates and never made time for those that could barely make the rent. My family and I do not recommend Sutter Estates or any property that [name removed] or her A-Team manage.

The staff members here at Sutter Estates are especially good, they try very hard to take care of each and every one of us. The food, in my opinion, has gone way downhill, when I first got it here it was amazing but right now it's just not that great so that could be improved.

Everyone is super nice and it is a nice place. The maintenance team could be more helpful. It seems like it takes forever for them to respond to requests to fix things in my loved one's apartment. My family ends up fixing the items instead.

We've been very happy with them. We chose them because it allowed Dad to maintain his independence with a lot of support around him. It was very clean, with no strong smells, and just an open, airy, very pleasant environment. Every one of the staff are so sweet and so helpful. And the residents go out of their way to make new residents feel welcome. I figure Dad liked the food, because he was a member of the clean plate club and was known for eating every last bite on his plate. They have little parties with cake and a little bit of wine, and some coffee and punch. Their Valentine's Day party was really sweet. They even elected a Queen of Hearts and King of Hearts, and they got sashes and crowns and the whole thing. I think they offer really good activities and a nice variety of things. Everybody looks like they're having fun. They have an art class and crafting, yarn needlework like knitting and crocheting, and I've seen people building puzzles, playing cards, sitting with each other and talking. It just seems like a really good social environment. It's a great value at Sutter Estates, and I was surprised it was as affordable as it was.

This is an ideal place to live. I moved here so I didn't have to cook, clean up or house clean. I was pleasantly surprised by the various activities available. I got excercise M, T, & W @ 10 AM and bingo at 3 PM on Mon. and Wed. They keep the place very clean. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Washers and dryers are normal size and free! I have my own AC in my room, 2 large closets, and a couple cupboards. I enjoy spending my free time in the sewing room.

My stay in Sutter Estates was to be 2 years, but has become 3. I am moving to Elk Grove to be near my daughter. I have been very contented living here. All the "Heroes" have alway been loving, kind, and gracious. I must say the food has been good and always hot! When I moved in I called the place 3 star, but with the change of management-4 star.

I do not live here. I was looking for my Uncle and Aunt. For the most part they seem to like it. Are looking forward to the new menu that is coming in because of the new owners. Repairs seems to be getting done. My Aunt is using the new quilting/sewing room and is really enjoying meeting people with the same interest. My Uncle is older, 93 in 2 weeks, and doesn't get out as much. He is a real people person, like to play poker and other card game but, mostly poker. So far hasn't find the right people yet to join in a game. They both speak English and Spanish. As far as I know, no one is joining them at meals. It has been a few weeks since I have spoke with them, so things could have changed. I am 67, still working. Seeing my family members living here shows me what I may have in my future. I could live in a place like this. Keep up the good work and making the price most people can afford. Thank you, [Name removed]

I enjoyed my tour of this community and thought they did a really great job of keeping the property well maintained and very clean. The staff that helped me during our visit was very helpful and knowledgeable about there facility. It just ended up not working well with my budget and we ended up placing her in another community that fit her finances a little better.

Sutter Estates is simply the best. Service minded, friendly and most of all kind. The meals are very good. My mother is happy and that makes our family relax and know she is in good hands. The staff has amazing tolerance and consideration for various personalities.

My mother lives here and the maids are unprofessional and come to work dressed like they are going to a ball game. The food is lacking and the meals are that of a child leaving her hungry hours later. They are raillery aloud to ask for more food because there is most likely not enough food for that. they charge extra to have meals brought to the room unless you are ill. They are trying t get better team members, they truly are, but time will tell.

I know that one thing they can definitely improve on is making sure that the housekeeping staff is cleaning the apartments. Other than that, I really can not think of anything else that they can improve upon.

A Place for Mom has scored Sutter Estates 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score.
