Accessible and caring staff make Emerald Oaks a gem.

Emerald Oaks is well-run. At first glance, it may seem that it costs more, but their costs include regular laundry service, etc. so it is either comparable in cost to other places if not cheaper, The place is well-managed by a highly accessible and hands-on woman who addresses all residents and their family members by name and knows at the start of each day the health and activity status of each resident. I brought in our own hospice care, and the nurse reported to me that this place was a revelation. She said that the night staff were amazing. She said that often night staff don't like dealing with hospice patients and so service to them may be cursory or dismissive, but not in Emerald Oaks. I noticed the same thing. My mom was only there a few weeks before she died, but even support staff that she never met, were aware of who she was and her needs. Communications amongst staff seem to be excellent. Job satisfaction amongst the staff seemed to be very high, I even interviewed the handyman before I placed Mom in Emerald Oaks. He had worked there for several years and loved his job and would do anything to help. Emerald Oaks is located in the country surrounded by orchards, down a peaceful country road. A fire station is a couple of blocks away. There is nearby access to major highways and shopping centers. Hospital and medical care are about a mile away and a podiatrist and doctor make monthly visits to the facility for residents who would like to use their services. (The podiatrist happened to be my mother's own long-time podiatrist!). Dispensing of medication is well-organized, and the staff work with doctors and pharmacies.... Read more

A nice place

The staff was interacting with the residents, and seemed very caring and kind. It was a clean community, and I saw a lot of residents in the common areas. The place felt like a highly social facility. The design of the place is more like a medical facility than a homey environment, but it did not smell and the common areas had homey type furniture.

Emerald Oaks is the very best of all

Our very first impression with Emerald Oaks was that it is magnificent, it was the best community we had visited. It is by far number one and right when you walk in it is so clean and fresh and that was what sold us right away. The staff and associates really just bend over backwards for the residents and families. [name removed] who runs the show is by far number one, she is the best person for the job. [name removed] who we think is the assistant director is wonderful - anytime we have questions or just need something to get done we go to her and it gets done right away. [name removed] who runs the activities is just fantastic - she is a lovely lovely person and just the sweetest. We would recommend this community to family members and non family members. This community is by far superb all the way around.

A very pleasant place to stay.

They keep the place well cleaned up. The staff tries their best, but I feel like they're just there to do their job. Although my loved one can be difficult, so I recognize that they have a hard job to do. I wasn't able to visit my loved one as much as I would have liked to during this Covid situation. You could only visit outdoors or in a designated visiting room, which I didn't care for. But overall I think they try to do what's right and what the state is telling them to do, even if I don't agree with it. She was resistant to activities at first, but they eventually got her involved in playing Bingo, which she's enjoyed. I think it's expensive here, although there are some places that are higher. But it's actually less expensive than the last place she lived.

I liked what I saw

I had looked at several homes in Yuba City. Emerald Oaks feels like home. I read the reviews and I felt I needed to see for myself. I called and was treated with respect and kindness. My tour was about one hour. I was not pressured to do a placement. The office manager , Debbie was very helpful and took the time needed for me to ask questions. I was invited to stay for lunch and I took advantage of the offer. The food was delicious. I have decided to place my dad in Emerald Oaks.

The best care

My first day there was a joy. The food was good and plenty of it. The Activity director had a party going on with dancing and it seemed everyone was having a great time. I have internet so I can visit with friends and family. I plan on living at Emerald Oaks for a long time. The staff are very caring and I no longer feel like my family's worried about me.

Bad Experience

We really had a bad experience with this community. It seems like there care plan is to manage through drugs. They are not prepared to manage a resident that is active and moving around. They would prefer if they are in a coma like trance and watching TV. They do not have common areas for them to socialize. They sit in their rooms and watch TV there. They only have bathrooms in their rooms so if they are walking around they have to make it back to their room to use the bathroom. They do not have any activities there is no such thing as fun. We would not keep my loved one here if it was free.

A Place for Mom has scored Emerald Oaks 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
