My mom has been at 3 assisted living places and this one has taking the best care of her. It feels like home. I would definitely recommend to others.

Comfy homey atmosphere, outside needed painting & sprucing up. Inside needed updating, Care manager seemed very nice, needed up dating. Lots of comfy overstuffed sofas & recliners. Other than cable Tv viewing didn't see much regarding activities ex. coffee drinking in the kitchen. Back in the woods further west on West Jolly Acres than Conastone substation. Jolly acres is a paved road but just after the substation the road is a hard packed gravel road. The state keeps the road open due to the Conastone Elec sub station & sunshine acres. The inside was comfortably warm when I went end of Nov. It is back in the woods with views of the woods & deer. A serene location for someone upset by traffic & sirens. The caregivers do the grocery shopping at two grocery stores in Stewartstown, Pa about 5 miles away. I feel that they would be more flexible re food preferences & dealing with vendors supply issues. I worked in one of the stores in the past so you won't hear that certain foods didn't come in on their order. They have the flexibility to adjust incoming food because they personally attend to purchasing the food. Most residents were sleeping when I was there. Laundry done daily & put away for residents. May have an outside rear deck for bird watching. Ramp for entering. People in Northern Harford or Northern Balto Counties that are used to living in the country or on a farm & do not expect chrome, glass, & granite-would be happy there. Didn't have the sterile hospital or nursing home feeling. It was very homey. Didn't have bad odors. Most areas have carpeting. Close to York or Upper Chesapeake Hosp. Two Emt fire houses close by. My concern for my loved one was lack of activities as he sufferers from depression. Population was elderly Caucasian. (My loved one has many Hispanic friends & he is outgoing around them. So consequently, he is withdrawn w/o Hispanics.) Seemed friendly but lack of activities & stimulation was my concern. Food availability is a positive. Not sure about physical, occupation therapy or barber/ beautician availability.
We loved Sunshine Acres! My loved one was there for a short time due to his declining health (nothing at all to do with Sunshine Acres). But we really liked the homey feel of it. It didn't feel like a hospital or a nursing home. It felt like a true home, so I think it was a lot easier for him to transition to that type of environment. They provided fantastic care during the time that he was there. The staff were all great. They were very hands-on, and you could tell they actually cared about him and wanted to know about him. Because it was a small facility, I felt we had a lot of personalized attention on him. I just wish he could have had more time there!

So far we are liking the Sunshine Acres community, and when we are able to visit inside it is very clean. We liked the visits outside, its in a woodsy outdoor area which we enjoy. The staff member we have met with are all very pleasant. The location is very convenient for our family, and we like that its a smaller community so we feel our loved one is getting more close one on one attention.

My Dad gets good care here at Sunshine Acres. It's a small place so he gets personal attention when he needs anything. The staff there are always friendly and helpful.

Kind of run down and dumpy. But it was very clean. Beautiful setting. The staff ratio is 2:10, better than most big operations. Both women we met were very nice and friendly. You could tell the residents really liked one of the staff in particular. Residents tend to be less cognizant than my parent, so it's not a good fit. I would think that at the rates these families pay the owner could afford to do a nice paint job and clean up the junk laying around. (Junk was not in resident areas but alongside outbuildings)

A Place for Mom has scored Sunshine Acres Inc 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
