My mother has lived at Sunrise of Unionville since the [date removed]. Our family is very happy with the care our mother has received from the day she arrived. As time has gone on Mom's care needs have increased and Sunrise of Unionville staff have always taken very good care of her. They provide regular communication through email, an app and if there is a concern or something they feel we need to know quickly they will pick up the phone and call. All the staff is friendly, and helpful. The staff makes the effort to know the names of all the residents and greet them by name when they see them. I would highly recommend Sunrise of Unionville.... My sister-in-law, for whom I have POA for personal care, needed assisted living services earlier this year. There was no such accommodation in Durham Region where she lived previously. Clearly, more of this level of care is needed for those who are not completely independent and yet not needing the services of a long term care facility. Sadly, the cost of care at Sunrise is prohibitive for many. I, myself, could not afford to live there. We recently held a family gathering in the Activity Room on the 2nd floor and the staff were very welcoming, gracious and accommodating in giving us the use of the room, providing and setting up tables and chairs, providing linens etc.. My sister-in-law has only one complaint - the quality of food served in the dining room is "uneven" at best. When visiting her, we ourselves have also experienced inconsistency in the quality of meals provided. Considering the cost of living there, this is disappointing. Otherwise, she is happy at Sunrise and is quite bonded with one particular caregiver. Sunrise provides good but high cost assisted living services for those who can afford it. We need more of this level of care at more affordable prices.

The care and service at Sunrise of Unionville was disappointing. They were understaffed, the workers were very unhappy and it showed. Communication was very poor. If the emergency cord was pulled, no one came. The food and activities were okay. The maintenance was poor. The cost should have been 50% less than what was being charged. We paid expecting excellent care at a higher level of experience. The level of care did not warrant the cost. They definitely need better organization.

While it is a very beautiful, and clean Retirement Home, and staff were friendly, it is understaffed. Same employees that bath/dress, and help seniors, also prepare for meals leaving them short handed at meal times. My father had more than 3 falls in a matter of weeks. We were told that he was sore as he pulled a muscle, and had been examined by the nurse. After several days of dads pain increasing we took him to hospital via private ambulance. The pulled muscle we were told he had turned out to be cracked ribs, and torn rotor cuff at the shoulder. Dad was being moved around, and pulled on the side of his injury for several days... DO NOT RECOMMEND for seniors that cannot take care of their own needs. Dad in a better place now that has the staff to meet his needs. He has had no falls or injury since leaving Sunrise.

Small intimate community. Staff is very attentive and well engaged with residents. Good level of care and good exercise class. Community too small for my parents and insufficient ethnic mix. Food was average.

I am quite pleased with Sunrise although they keep asking me to get other things for Dad. First it was a toilet seat riser, then a new bed and now bibs for eating. He is quite comfortable there and now that he will be getting physiotherapy I think he will progress quite rapidly into walking again. To start with they were having him participate in singing and music, which are not his thing, but have adapted his program more to his interests.

Our stay was short, and I got the feeling that this would not have worked out or been a good experience. It's a beautiful place, and most of the people are friendly, but within 3 weeks we were already having communication issues, especially with medications. The director is a very nice lady but I personally think she's too young and inexperienced. I have heard a couple of other people pulling their loved one out. It's expensive, there were belongings and tables missing. All in all I do not recommend them.

He's very, very happy. He is doing wonderful. I love the facility I really do. I'm happy. It's very clean, and I never get complaints about the food, or anything like that. It really is very nice.

Found ourselves in the situation of having to place both parents in care. Sunrise offered to take them both and keep them together. The staff is very caring and go out of their way to accommodate their residents. They are very approachable and easy to reach. My parents are not adjusting well in spite of all that Sunrise has done to make it easier for them. Unfortunately, they are not in a position to return to their home. Sunrise staff are supportive to the family and understand the extreme stress we are all under.

The food would get about a four. Sometimes I notice that the the light bulbs burn out in the rooms, and it takes a little while to get noticed. LED bulbs might be a good fix for that, and they are a money saver too. We liked the environment when we first went in. It was welcoming and warm, and I liked the location as well. My mom is happy there, which is the most important part.
