My brother is a resident at Stonewall Gardens. The staff is very professional and responsive. Moreover, they have kept my brother safe during the pandemic. I am very grateful for the work done by staff on behalf of my brother's care.

My friend moved to Stonewall Gardens three years ago from another assisted living community. He can be a difficult character, depressive and paranoid but the staff and residents at Stonewall have been consistently kind, patient, and supportive. He is far happier in an all-gay or gay supportive environment than he would be anywhere else.

This is a fabulous facility. My brother has been there for almost 2 years and now wouldn't live anywhere else. The staff is outstanding, so caring and competent. Allowing pets has meant the difference too between happiness and depression. I woulnd't more highly recommend this as a home for yourself or your loved one.

Having lived in another assisted living community in a traditional style building with long institution hallways, Stonewall Gardens combination of garden-style apartment and thoughtful caring professional staff has made all the difference for 5 years now!

I moved here from Santa Barbara because of the quality of care and the cost. The care is excellent doing what I need to continue to be more independent and leave to the care of myself, a big goal of mine after being in a hospital for too long recovering from a brain aneurism. They are knowledgeable of my needs and have left how I wish to live my life going forward. There are the services Pam Springs for seniors that will help me continue to live a full life.

We have a dining room/served 3 meals daily. Room service if needed "good food." Snacks, all laundry, linning fresh beds made up if needed, apt cleaned, and disinfected. A pet is allowed, fun activities "movies" people are open and welcoming. Staff actually cares. An easy life transition.

I have lived at Stonewall Gardens for 5+ months. The staff has been extremely supportive and encouraging. I arrived at Stonewall Gardens 3 months post coma. I was weak and sometimes confused. Thes staff was caring and supportive and my strength increased and I'm now walking in a walker. The grounds are well kept. The food is excellent and creatively prepared.

A dear family friend moved into Stonewall Gardens in June 2018, and if Stonewall didn't literally save his life, it certainly made it worth living again. Everyone has the same first impression of Stonewall: "Wow, this place is nice!" Stonewall is well-designed, beautifully landscaped and perfectly maintained. But after many visits and through many interactions with Stonewall's professional staff, I've learned that the facility is fully as beautiful "on the inside." Stonewall's managers really do take sincere personal interest in the residents, and they really do work hard to make the Stonewall experience as beneficial as it can be for everyone. Before coming to Stonewall, my friend had failed to thrive anywhere, and his family was desperate. Since finding this safe haven in gorgeous, gay-friendly Palm Springs, my friend has regained not only his health but his personality and his hope for the future. Thank you, Stonewall!

Stonewall Gardens has been a blessing for my friend Jeff (not his real name). Before he came there he was in another residence that was not overtly homophobic, but with his history of discrimination he felt isolated. Today, despite ongoing challenges that he faces from hearing loss and other difficulties, he is much more like his old self, less anxious and worried. The staff at Stonewall Gardens are terrific and the other residents care about and support each other. I enjoy visiting my friend there myself. This is a much needed service and there should be more places like Stonewall Gardens.

Stonewall Gardens was a life saver. My brother Had been living in an Assisted Living facility in Sacramento, and was having a bad experience. A friend recommended i check out Stonewall Gardens, so i flew down and had a tour. What a difference! I’m so happy we moved him there. It’s ideal especially for a dog lover because there’s enclosed outdoor space and the apt patios can be gated as well to allow the dogs to be outside. The staff were so friendly and informative and so accommodating when a vacancy opened up and we needed to move in right away. I can’t say enough especially about the the welcoming vibe once my brother moved in. And having facility transportation available, plus all the activities provided meant my brother found a true accepting community. He’s in the best health, and happiest he’s been in years. I can’t thank Stonewall Gardens enough for contributing to that.

Several years ago my brother suffered from extremely poor health so I brought him back to Minnesota from San Diego. After a few years, his health improved quite a lot but he was not connecting to anyone in Minnesota. He was lonely more than anything. It is through some divine intervention that we found the Stonewall!!! As soon as [name removed] was able to move to Palm Springs we moved him in. It has been overwhelmingly good for [name removed] and me! I can count on the staff to take care of him. His apartment is cleaned, he is fed according to his special diet and most importantly, [name removed] takes [name removed] to his doctor appointments and to pick up his meds. [Name removed] even gets [name removed] out for social events! I love working with [name removed] and believe he and the staff at the Stonewall make the difference in [name removed]'s life. He’s actually happy again.

I think the decision to move to assisted living can be a traumatic one; it was for me when I made it six years ago at the age of 47 due to declining health. We all spend our adult lives trying to gain independence — personal, professional, financial — and even the name “assisted living” seems to contradict that. It can feel like going backward, or worse, failure. Adding insult to injury, the overwhelmingly heterosexual culture of most facilities can feel like a betrayal of a lifetime spent developing a sense of pride and self-esteem as an LGBTQ person. Then four years ago I found Stonewall Gardens and have lived here ever since. Having lived in two facilities now, the “Stonewall difference” boils down to this: once someone has come to the conclusion that they need “help” because of age, illness, or injury, it is not necessary to “hide” one’s true nature — whatever that means (campy, butch, reserved, outrageous, cultured and sophisticated, raunchy and full of stories of your “wild” days) — here. The LGBTQ community is more visible today than ever before, and its need for healthcare and related services must not be a closely guarded secret forcing people to choose between their needs and their hard-won sense of pride in who they are. Stonewall Gardens provides both — pride, and help. When you can no longer live alone, live with your own!

We are so happy to have found Stonewall Gardens. Our family member is starting his 2nd year there and he loves it! The gated facility is beautiful, has great views of Mt San Jacinto, a well-lit wandering path, outdoor seating areas with misters, a water feature and tasteful desert landscaping. The property and facilities are clean and well maintained. Rooms are of appropriate size with large bathrooms that can easily accommodate wheelchairs or walkers. The staff and residents are friendly and very supporting of residents lifestyle preferences. Management encourages and acts upon suggestions from residents. We like the fact that the facility is smaller than most assistant living facilities as it provides more personal attention and our family member's immediate needs are taken care of. Having a smaller resident population also allows for easier social interactions between residents and for friendships to develop. There are many on and off-site activities to keep residents busy and engaged at every mobility level, including movies, picnics, shopping, restaurants, wine and cheese night, piano entertainment, etc. We very much appreciate the scheduling of doctor's appointments so residents can be transported to/from their appointments in the Stonewall van. The facility is just blocks away from Desert Regional Hospital and doctor's offices. We feel comfortable having the staff manage his care while keeping us informed and involved from a distance. We feel welcomed by all when we visit. SM/SB
