I cannot say enough about how great Sterling Heights is. The people there are wonderful, caring and nice. They all go above and beyond to help. My parents lived at SH from [date removed]. Business at SH was still slow when they moved in and prices were lower. SH marketed aggressively to increase occupancy and they have since raised prices. In particular, SH's corporate parent has clamped down and now charges for extra services that used to get overlooked. Our overall experience was good. Rooms are modern and clean, food is plentiful but not suited to special diets like cardiac or low sodium. Because of the services clampdown, residents should be capable of living independently. SH has had a lot of trouble keeping any kind of in-house therapy or aid services, even as a paid service.

Well first of all, the lower rating for the meals have to do with my wife's meal that I pick up for her that always has left over dessert and sometimes without the drink that we asked for. In short I like everything about Sterling Heights right down to the kind people that I deal with. My wife and I see it as our city of refuge. What a wonderful place to live.

They turnover in management, they are all nice, but there seems to be new ones. At least 3 or 4 in the last year The food is not good, some residents go to the meetings but it doesn't get better. I am sure, like most places they have high turnover. My loved one fixes her own meals which depletes finances.

Sterling heights is a great place to live. It is a beautiful place with many outings and celebrations. Everyone is very pleasant and happy. It is close to many shopping areas and the airport as well. You have a gym, movie theater, library, media room and laundry rooms. You are served three meals restaurant style with a 24 hr tea and coffee bar with baked goods and fresh fruit. My mom is very happy about her move.

My loved one hasn't been there in at least 6 months. He didn't get along with the front office husband and wife team. They wanted to leave anyway so they might not even be there anymore. They put a horrific aura on the facility. Otherwise he loved it there so it's a shame. We'd love to get him back there! The food was excellent and he has very good taste! The waitstaff and cooks were wonderful. Facility was clean and inviting! Very beautiful! But you could feel the tension amongst the residents and the administration. Residents were wonderful too!
My loved one is currently a resident at Sterling Heights and overall things have been good so far. The staff is very attentive and very helpful, especially when moving in. The housekeeping and communication with the family is good. There is just turnover at the management level, the staff changes too often. Also, the food is horrible and my loved one barely eats it. I don't know what they can do for better food. I would recommend Sterling Heights to others, but with the understanding about the food.

We gave the meals and dining service 4 stars only due to the food prepare sometimes. The facility is very beautiful and provides many activities. Each holiday they have a different theme filled day and decorations. The have a very good transportation system in place too. They also have a monthly activities calendar.

The interaction with the staff was pretty good. The food is plain, and my loved one does not really like it. They can improve on the food. We picked this community, because it is attractive/nice, location and it met our needs the best.

Response from Sterling Heights
January 29, 2023We are sorry your loved one did not enjoy the food, we do offer a wide variety of options- all nutritious and made from scratch. We are certain they will find many other options they will enjoy.
The food is sometimes better some days than others, beef meals are sometimes lesser quality cuts and more fatty.

My Mother was there for [date removed]. Seen numerous Managers come and go. Few months back, Sterling Heights had a set of Managers, [name removed] and [name removed] , who were absolutely amazing! They were there for the Residents. Ran the community great and had the respect of all residents and family. Hawthorn needs to bring them back to get this back running to where it should be. [name removed] was one that ran around and never sat down to keep it all flowing. [name removed] always tended to the needs of everyone. All done with care. Step up Hawthorn and get them back.

My mother recently moved into Sterling Heights. From the moment we met with Managers [names removed], we knew we made the right decision. They knew I was very protective of my Mother. With that, they reached out to me daily and informed me of her behavior. Turns out, she fell right in place and made herself a home. I highly recommend Sterling Heights as the Managers are wonderful and keep our loved ones safe.

So far our loved one is happy there, he has no complaints about the cleanliness of the community or the staff members. There are a few ladies that have been super helpful towards him with memory care stuff. However, they just hired on a new chef so the meals and dining service is rated a little lot. Our loved one says the meals have been getting better the last couple of weeks, but the service is pretty slow. It takes almost 2 hours to get dinner because they just don't have enough staffing. We also think the cost is a little high for what they are providing. It says the meals are all provided but there are certain drinks our loved one has to buy, and the ice cream machine hasn't been working.

My mom was very happy here at Sterling Heights. We chose this facility at the time because it seemed like a great community but she was in and out of the hospital so she did not get to experience it a whole lot. I would recommend them highly to others looking.
I recently visited my Aunt for the first time this week in over a year due to Covid. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by the Asst Manager. It was great to see a familiar face. There were residents sitting all around chatting, laughing and smiles on the faces. What a relief to actually see that. Sterling is one of the best places to live. I would highly recommend to family and friends.

If you are looking for an independent Senior community, look no further. This facility is bright and cheerful. The staff is very friendly as are the residents. I get no bills here, including tv and internet. I gave up my car because the facility provides transportation for shopping and medical appointments. I do have a larger apartment than I reAlly need, but I can move to a 1 bedroom if the increase in rent is more than my income.

horrible experience- If I could give a 0/5, I would, but unfortunately technological restraints don't allow me to do so. I came for a walk-in tour and waited over 20 minutes without anyone coming to greet me or assist me. truly abhorrent service.

A Place for Mom has scored Sterling Heights 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
