My Mothers journey was a long one and unfortunately she did not prepare for the last years as well as one might hope. Due to this I had to be very resourceful with care options and still trying to get the best for my mom. Originally this place was owned by another company and to be honest it was subpar. However the current company has done everything outside of replace the walls! Its been a complete 180 from the previous owner and my moms last years were spent in a place that I did not think I would ever be able to provide for her. Not only that the owner Nataly built a relationship with my mom and helped us out to an extent that you would only see family do. I can not say enough good things about [name removed] and Smyrna Village. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to take their family to a place they can actually trust and not have to worry about their care. I can not say thanks enough to Nataly and her team at Smyrna Village!!... Read more

My Mother has been at Smyrna Village for over a year, and since the new owners have taken over, it has gone above and beyond our expectations! I am so happy that my mom is happy and thriving. The food is delicious…the atmosphere is beautiful and bright! There are fun activities and the staff is absolutely wonderful! My mother just celebrated her 86th birthday and the staff surprised her with some gifts which was so nice. The owner is extremely welcoming and open to making Smyrna Village the best it can be! I would absolutely recommend Smyrna Village because they CARE!

We toured Smyrna Village during our search for Memory Care for our loved one. It's a very small facility with no outdoor area and the parking is very limited. Our tour guide was friendly. It was a little difficult reaching someone and the place is under renovation.
I toured Smyrna Village during my search for Memory Care for my loved one. This facility was a hard no for me. They were friendly, but the facility itself was horrible.
This is a wonderful place where residents enjoy a variety of activities. The change in ownership has improved amenities all around.. My apprehension regarding my mother’s care has disappeared, I am absolutely at ease now.

We made the difficult decision to place mom in memory care. She came here in [date removed] I was apprehensive at first as the place is in dire need of updating. The staff has been very cooperative at all times. Every time I go see mom, she is well taken care of. They are in the process of updating, and have already replaced flooring, painted walls, updating furniture, remodeling bathrooms and hiring new staff. My mom seems to love her nurses and that is THE MOST important thing for me, her happiness and health. I have been able to meet the new owners, and they are so willing to meet our needs. They gave me their number if I needed anything day or night. They are implementing more activities for the residents as well as some live music on Fridays. I recommend you give them a chance.

February 8, 2023Thank you for your kind words, Chris. You are a good grandson to visit your grandmother so often. We will strive to continually improve and make Smyrna Villages the best possible place for her.
My father is enjoying his stay at Smyrna Village. This facility has both men and women in various stages of memory loss. The staff is both friendly and professional in their care of my father and the other residents. The new management is in the process of making some needed updates to the facility. I am excited that they have activities with the residents which match their abilities in the various stages of memory loss. I recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place to care for their loved one.

February 2, 2023Thank you so much, Joy, for your kind words! We really love Bob. The benefit of our community being so small is that we have a close relationship with you and all her families. We will continue striving to make our community the best it can be for all our residents.
Awesome place for your love one. Caring and great staff. Very attractive to needs of the patients. I enjoy going and seeing them interact with everyone. I go by often just to give back and help elderly if need.

I cannot say enough positive things about Smyrna Village. Especially since the new owners have taken over, this place has transformed into a top notch care home for dementia patients. Exactly the kind of care I dreamt my parent could receive.

If you have to put someone into memory care, I would highly recommend Smyrna Village. It's a long drive for me, but I'm pleased with them. In the last three months I have seen them constantly working on renovations. I always see them cleaning the floors. The staff is very nice - they have very good people who work there. Every time I've gone there to visit, my loved one has been shaved, bathed, changed, and is wearing clean clothes. He is becoming more difficult and experiencing sundowning, but they are doing an excellent job with him.

I was not impressed with the look of this facility. It was old and drab and furniture was outdated - they definitely needed some updates.

I would tell a friend that I know some new owners have the building and they have their doors of communication open, and they say they are currently undergoing renovations, so we'll have to wait and see the outcome of that. But speaking on having my grandmother there for the past six months, I was bamboozled into thinking the place was better than it actually is. Just yesterday, I just came across a January calendar/newsletter that I threw in the trash from when the previous director gave it to me on my tour date. The calendar had activities filled to the brim for the older folks, and the facility looked and smelled clean. Activities like a Spa and Nail Day, Movie Night with Popcorn and Pizza, Bingo, and much more! I had even spoken with someone from hospice who told me that she was headed over to the facility to play Bingo with the residents. I was thinking to myself this place is a good fit for my grandmother. After she'd been there for a couple of weeks, I found out that NONE of what was on that calendar had come to pass for the residents. Also, my grandmother did receive the WRONG medication on the hospice side WHEN I TOLD THEM FROM THE BEGINNING that she was to not receive that medication. After I made a fuss about it, I spoke with the director of Gardens of Smyrna and the hospice nurse her room. I was told the smell is in the walls, and it's going to take deep cleaning to get it out. The facility is two stories, so there's still a lot to do.

I would not recommend you send your loved one to Gardens of Smyrna. The management refused to communicate with the family when we had questions or concerns about my loved one. My loved one's clothes would go missing. The cleanliness could be improved overall. There was an odor to the community. I was told there would be activities, and there were no activities for the residents to participate in.

For the amount you are paying for what you get, I just did not have the right feeling when I went here. It just seemed very dark and dingy and just did not seem like a place where I wanted my loved one to be.
Response from Smyrna Village
January 24, 2023We thought so too, which is why we remodeled the place to make it look bright and inviting. Come visit!
I would encourage you to avoid this community. During the initial visit they seemed alright. I ended up having to go in and care for my loved one. The staff would bring the food on paper plates to the residents and leave it, and not come back for it. They weren't bathing my loved one like they should have been. There were no activities that I saw when I was there. No one wants to take responsibility from the administrator down to the caregiver, it was always someone else's fault.

The cleanliness of the community and the friendliness of the staff members really stood out to us. They have a lot of activities going on and the value for cost is a 5+ but we do have on issues with them. Our loved one has a cell phone and we have asked the staff members to just periodically pulg the phone in to charge so we can call when we aren't able to visit, but most of the time when we do call the phone hasn't been charged. We would greatly appreciate it if they would plug the phone in for us.

I thought this was a page out of a Stephen King novel. The community was filthy.
They have lots of residents with not a lot of staff. It is reasonably priced. They allow you to furnish the rooms. The community smells like urine or a nursing home. I was under the impression that I could come take my loved one to lunch, and come to find out that my loved one wouldn't have been able to go out of the community after 30 days. Once you are in, they keep the residents in. So it is a secure community. The community doesn't serve a lot of healthy meals for vegetarians. Only canned vegetable were used, and never fresh. There was no fresh fruit either. They provided small portions.

A Place for Mom has scored Smyrna Village 9.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
