All the staff have been there for any questions or issue I have or my brother has had. Staff are visible and make themselves available every time I'm there. They approach me with any new issues with my mother and bring necessary things to my attention. My questions via phone call or text are always answered within 15 minutes or less. And that is mainly in the areas mom lives. Her room and bathroom are immaculate. Never a lingering odor. Furniture is dusted and her pictures etc are always put back neatly. The home's overall appearance in many areas needs updating, however, there's more to a "home" than appearance. Friendliness of the staff is 5 plus! All the staff, from housekeepers to the head administrators, [name removed], are welcoming and approachable. She and other staff, other than nurses/aides, jump in to take care of residents in the dining room when shortages occur (illness running through the home in January), and shoveling snow! Aside from a few mishaps I brought to their attention care is excellent. Issues are addressed immediately. [name removed] suggested a meeting with all areas at one point when we all were seeing different behaviors with my mom. My mom is easy to get along with and staff seem to really enjoy her personality. But she doesn't speak up and ask when she has a problem. My mom is easy to please as far as food. She eats it and gained weight since she's been there. However, staff found she had mental difficulty in the dining room and they found a way to solve it. Food smells good. I'm frequently there to see the food and the menu. Plenty of variety. I've eaten there a few times and it was pleasing. Appears homemade. The young director offers what most residents seem to like. Oldies and more modern and I see many participating including my mom. The director posts frequently on Facebook. No activities planned for weekends. So for those in the memory care area that have no visitors they have little stimulation other than TV. Definitely, the care given and attention paid to each resident is worth the cost. It's actually very affordable compared to other homes.... Read more
Nestled in the rolling hills of central Pennsylvania, Serenity Gardens is home among the quiet and friendly neighborhoods of Kulpmont. The Susquehanna River cuts through the Cumberland Valley to the east, and the state capital, Harrisburg, is just an hour south. Serenity Gardens, however, is about as far from big-city life as its name might suggest.
With independent living, assisted living and memory care services, Serenity Gardens provides quality care while respecting the independence and dignity of residents. The private and semi-private rooms, combined with chef-prepared meals, fun social events, and a wellness program, make Serenity Gardens a wonderful place to call home.
Independent living is for residents who want to continue to enjoy an active lifestyle without the concerns of homeownership. Free of yard work and household repairs, they can come and go as they please, participate in their own activities, and engage in community life with friends and family.
Residents who need a little support can choose to live in the assisted living community, where they can receive help with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, laundry, and taking medications. Staff is attentive to individual needs and are on-call 24 hours a day.
The strong memory care team...

Some staff definitely go above and beyond and give time and show they care to the individuals. The activities coordinator is great at keeping the individuals busy. The staff are why we chose this facility. My mom does not love the food, but her overall care is more important.

Staff are always extremely friendly and accommodating. They get to know the residents quickly and did a great job after just a week of pairing up my mother with a friend who is just about perfect for my mom.

My mom is doing very well and it's a very nice community. They have done very well to get her acclimated and comfortable since moving in. I like the staff and it seems that she likes the food. She part of the memory care.

The caregivers are very good in this challenging job. The dementia unit is called Ivy Lane. My Dad has been there about 2 weeks and has transitioned well. He has a roommate who looks after him.

They are doing a good job at this point. There are no real concerns, so far. It's clean and the staff is friendly. I don't have any complaints about food or anything like that. It's working out pretty well so far.

A Place for Mom has scored Serenity Gardens 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
