It was a blow for us when my husband had to resign being pastor of a church in New Mexico & we had to return to this area to move into assisted living due to his health. I also needed a respite from being his caregiver. Our daughter visited over half the facilities around here & we decided on Rockbridge Oaks. It was a great decision. The staff are friendly & welcoming. The facilities are very nice. One big plus is the meals. They have an anytime menu from 7:00am - 7:00 pm with specials for the 3 main meals which is very nice, but what makes it special is what they do for me. I have a gluten intolerance & they make accommodations for me. I bring in gluten-free bread, pasta, etc. and when I want a sandwich or the special contains something I can't eat, they substitute mine with the gluten- free alternative. When we had Beef Stroganoff the chef substituted my pasta & fixed a special gravy for me. It was delicious. This is just 1 example of how they make us feel at home.

September 25, 2024Dear Amy, Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We are truly glad to hear that you and your husband chose Rockbridge Oaks during this transitional time. It’s wonderful to know that our community has made you feel welcomed. We take great pride in our dining services, and it’s fantastic to hear how our team has accommodated your gluten intolerance. Our chefs are always happy to create delicious alternatives, and we’re thrilled that you enjoyed the Beef Stroganoff. Your feedback means a lot to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. If there’s anything more we can do, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Lindsey Hughes, Executive Director
Nice clean facility, more expensive than originally led to believe, staff friendly, meals were better initially but choices have been eliminated since mom moved in, care is about average as some staff cuts have been initiated. We have not really been using activities, but they do have an on site beauty salon we use weekly. Pets are allowed. Despite some of the downsides, I am still glad we chose this facility over others we looked at, as it is more like an apartment than a facility, like a place to live and less like a typical "nursing home" feel.

My dad didn't require much care but we needed physician referrals and did not get them. We needed a place quickly and the place was lovely. [name removed] went out of his way to get my dad in there quickly. My dad said the staff was very nice but that the place seemed understaffed. The food situation was not good. It is right next to a busy interstate and that took some getting used to for my dad...was noisy at night. There were a lot of nice people staying there...my dad is very social and enjoyed meeting and getting to know some of the other residents. Of the places that were available on short notice, this was a very nice option.

The turnover rate at this facility is absolutely crazy! I would not recommend them to anyone until they get their staffing issues addressed. Below is a list of just a few of the issues we had in memory care (valeo)… • My mom went weeks without a shower. They used dry shampoo to cover her greasy hair. Management would not give me a copy of her shower records because "they are internal records and we only keep them for 30 days." • My mom spent many days in bed until noon or later. Some days they would bring her breakfast and some days they wouldn't. Then she would wander her room awake all night. • Not once did she ever receive assistance getting ready for bed or brushing her teeth. • The main activity in memory care is watching tv. There is an activity calendar but many activities don't happen. • Medication records are incorrect. Medication given for pain "as needed" is rarely given. Staff does not take cues when a resident is in pain. Don't be fooled by the pretty building!

My loved one is currently a resident at Rockbridge Oaks and overall our experience at this facility has been okay. We did the move in process ourselves and it went fine. They were great about getting insurance approval, though. The nursing staff has changed over and hasn't been calling when there is a change in my loved one's condition. The Chef quit and there has only been one choice for meals. The food had been really good until then. I would recommend Rockbridge Oaks if your family member wants a clean, new, beautiful facility and they don't need any care other than meals. The cleaning service is inconsistent and we have been washing bedding and vacuuming for our loved one.

Friendly home atmosphere wellpleased. Resident became well enough to go home after only 3 months. They saw that her nutritional needs were met. She was extremely underweight and was in a state of failure to thrive. Appetite increased. I would recommend to others.

A Place for Mom has scored Rockbridge Oaks 8.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
