This place has been under renovation. They are still working on the kitchen but all new furniture. My first two weeks were not great. Non existent orientation. Things have improved. I take Gene on Fridays to the main building for music. He seems mostly content. Very few residents can communicate in the lock down area which is sad. In my mind the small house was very mediocre. I would not be happy going there to visit him. The room they showed me had no private bath and it was the same price. Probably they focus on Medicaid. Did not look at other places. It is a quick trip for me to Morningstar. His room is very nice.... Read more

The community is completely brand new with warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is exceptionally clean and smells great with friendly staff greeting you at the entrance and all the way through the community while touring. Highly recommend!

May 1, 2024Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear that things have improved for you and Gene. We are constantly working to enhance our services and community, and your input is valuable to us. We hope to continue exceeding your expectations.
I toured this facility and it was almost identical to the other nearby location and overall rated very high in our choices, but one thing that was very off-putting about the tour was our tour guide. In addition to showing us into empty and 'model' rooms our tour guide also opened up and showed us rooms of current residents. I thought that this was very unprofessional and it made me feel very uncomfortable, like I was violating someone's privacy. I know that I would not like my family member's room being showed to strangers on a tour. It was also very difficult to ask her questions about the community because she talked nonstop the entire tour. I literally had to interrupt her multiple times to get any of my questions answered and in the end I just gave up trying to ask them. This staff member was a big reason why we chose the other community.

June 15, 2023Jessica, we sincerely apologize for your tour experience and assure you it was out of step with the brand standards of MorningStar. We can easily see how it would make a poor first impression. Please know that we hold resident privacy as a principal responsibility. And we know that service excellence begins and ends with listening intently and well. Our Executive Director will be coaching the team in these fundamentals. We wish you and your family the very best.
Our family had an in person tour and from everything we were able to experience on the tour and the different staff members we were able to meet we have to say we thought it was a good tour experience.

March 30, 2023We’re so glad you enjoyed your tour of MorningStar. Seeing is believing, always.
This is the worst place to put your loved ones. The building is disgusting. The residents rooms are not well kept. Their laundry is constantly missing or mixed up with other residents. The food quality is so poor for the amount of money you pay because management hires under qualified people to do jobs they don’t understand. Your loved ones will not be taken care of, especially a memory care. They allow your loved ones to fall and get hurt and fight each other with no reports to family members. The staff steals things from the residents rooms. There is not communication from any management about your loved one. They input medication orders incorrectly and end up giving wrong meds or not giving the medication at all. The staff yells at the residents and no management checks on the day to day routine of the residents or their personal well-being. They do bare minimum until your loved one is so skinny and so well unkept they are unrecognizable. There are a little to no activity is going

February 8, 2023Bev, it grieves us to read of your family’s poor experience. Please know that MorningStar Senior Living assumed management of this community in late January 2023, excited to infuse the love and compassion that are the hallmarks of our brand. We will be establishing a host of new brand standards as part of this acquisition. We have every confidence that the hospitality and care services we offer residents will soon reflect a standard of consistent excellence.
For the most part we're pretty happy. When I give them feedback on what I'd like to see with memory care residents, they don't really make any changes. But they do a good job with cleanliness. I like that they try to keep it open to visitors, even though the pandemic has made that difficult. They have had some outbreaks, but they don't restrict visitors. I think that's really important, because the outcome is disastrous to the residents if they don't get to see their families. We had a couple of issues at first. In memory care unit, they have 20 residents and 2-3 staff to care for them. The staff would be taking their breaks at the same time and acting unprofessionally. I did talk to the director, and that has improved. But I just feel like they shouldn't be having frequent down time since there's always something that can be done for the residents.

This place is a mess. There is rarely someone at the front desk to assist family or residents. The care staff is horrible. They would rather give residents room trays then help the resident to dining room. The appearance of the place is out dated. The food is processed off of outdated menus. Cheap and don't care about giving residents quality meals. Memory care is an after thought. The marketing director will lie to you, to get you in. It's nothing what they present .

We had a great tour with Applewood Place. I had another family member who was here previously and it was a great experience for her. We just were not the biggest fans of the memory care portion of the facility.
I am an occasional visitor of a friend who resides there. Her health has declined, she has lost weight, seems lethargic at all times. She is in a wheelchair when she was very capable upon the start. Now she is too weak to walk. Her room is dusty, stains on her carpet, smells of urine, she has had her wedding rings stolen- she never took them off...and replaced with a cheap ring. Her toiletries are her own responsibility, yet they are always taken. The center is impressive, however. Understaffed resulting in lack of care for those that need it. Some of the staff are enthusiastic lately, but they must be the contracted ones because of being short staffed. Some have been very lazy, on their cellphones and looking bored. I witnessed staff walking around just to get there shift over.

Our family had an in person tour and the experience was great, it had a very homey feeling to it. However, at the time we were looking the community did not have independent living and we wanted our loved one to move out of assisted living to independent living.
Our loved one has declined in the Juniper facility. I my opinion it is poorly managed and basic senior care requirements like locking the wheelchair bake when returning the resident to their room, and leaving them unchecked from dinner to bedtime is dangerous for some elderly. This continues to happen after months of expressing this concern. Injuries requiring trips to the ER have become numerous. Maintenance issue like cleaning blood, and accidents out of the carpet and leaking toilet and wet floor take days or weeks to resolve, even with multiple request. Promises of being able to order anything on the menu have proven to be frustrating because they frequently are out of four or more items at once. And Atria would leave fruit and cookies out after dinner. Not Juniper. Very disappointed since Juniper took over this facility. I feel sometimes the residents are mocked and disrespected by an unsupervised immature staff. The best caregivers have left.

This facility is no longer run by Artia. Juniper has recently taken over. 2018 reviews reflect the quality of an Atria facility, and Juniper runs a lower quality operation in my opinion. They are attentive though the sign up process. However months later -the toilet leaks for over three weeks and we have to be responsible for making sure the water is off the floor to avoid slipping hazard. The carpet remains unsanitary after accidents and from the facility flu outbreak. Numerous request week after week produce nothing but excuses, such as, parts ordered hasn't come in......what's Home Depot for? What about safety????? What about germ control????? Undelivered medications that can't be verified because that person went home?? Bandages that can't be changed because there's no nurse on site even thou leaking blood. Loved one told to sit in that chair and not move after falling and fell again because they needed to go to the bathroom and all the falls happened because their walker hadn't been left in reach by staff. The ER could have been avoided if only the staff had put their walker in front of the chair, or inquired do you need assistance. If your loved one can't push their call button for help because of a high fever, laying in diarrhea, or they hit their head falling, I recommend avoiding Applewood JUNIPER. In an effort to understand the unending and difficult demands put on the staff of a senior care facility overall, and new management transfer, my patience has now run out as more and more basic senior care requirements go array. I feel there is now poor management of this facility

I toured this facility while looking for a place for my Mother. I absolutely loved this place and it is nicely put together. The marketing director who gave me the tour was friendly and outgoing. She was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed the tour. However, we didn’t pick this community because it is more expensive than other places and they came unfurnished.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score.
