I have been a resident in Independent Living at Meridian Village for a little over 5 years. It is a great place to call home and I could not be any happier with my choice to become a part of this community. I have met many folks from varied backgrounds and have made many new friends in a very friendly environment. The staff is very caring and will go out of their way to ensure residents are happy and well taken care of. You can be as active as you wish to be. There are activities here to suit everyone; from playing Bridge to Water Volleyball, or attending a concert or going to The Muny, taking advantage of several fitness programs or going out to a fine dining restaurant with fellow residents. Meridian Village is certainly a place that lives up to its mission: "Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest"

After residing in the Independent Living area of Meridian Village for just over 5 years I have absolutely no regrets. It is a pleasure to call Meridian Village my home. We are supported by a very capable and caring staff. There are numerous quality activities and opportunities available that you may participate in, or not, at whatever level fits you. It is very easy to meet new people with very diverse and interesting backgrounds and experiences to share and to form new friendships in a nurturing and welcoming environment.

My husband and I were not ready to sell our home and move to Meridian, but our health required it. We have found the staff amazing, always friendly and willing to help! They respond to our requests for service and often go beyond what is needed.. They are careful to use our names and treat everyone with dignity. The food has been very good, the menu is varied enough, for the most part, to keep one satisfied. It is a large facility and as such requires constant maintenance, we have been surprised by how well they keep up. They are always creating opportunities for people to be engaged in activities for physical and mental health..

I moved in May of 2019 and have been very happy here. We had wonderful times with dine-outs ,partys, chapel,Bible study, pool and our great dining room. Then COVID hit. Since then the staff and all employees have gone over and above to keep us safe and healthy and entertained. Everyone here is pleasant and cheerful and I have recommended Meridian Village to all my friends and acquaintances It’s a great place to be!

My dad was brought there by ambulance and I met him. I expressed my concern that Dad would fall out of the bed because it had no bed rails and they did not have a bed alarm (which was ok back then in 2017). They promised they would get a bed alarm under him and told me to leave even though I wanted to wait to make sure it happened. It looked like they had one person on duty and another person in a back room doing paperwork. I had dinner with him and went home to take a shower since I was staying with him at the hospital 24/7 prior. I was gone 45 minutes. When I came back he had fallen out of bed, alarms were ringing all over the place without staff attending the patients. They had no idea my Dad had fallen, but somehow knew it happened shortly after I left making me wonder if they just left him on the floor knowing he had fallen. He had a broken back. No care whatsoever, took him immediately back to Barnes...send someone there if you want them to suffer and then die. Nasty mouthed staff as well.

In the past my expérience and opinion of Meridian were all positive. Weve had several family members and friends in the Rehab unit and have a friend that lives in the Vintage Gardens Facility. Unfortunatley thinngs have really seemed to go downhill. The Vintage Gardens area is filthy, the staff is awol, cant find a Tech they are nowhere to be found, except for a few of the older staff you are on your own. The dining area is dirty, no cups for coffee,no sugar or condiments on table. Took us twenty minutes to find the stsff in kitchento get some creamer. Apparently they're not in the unit fromaroubd 10:30 to lubch time. So since my friend eats later she gets no fresh hot food or anyone in the kitchen to talk to. This is a daily thing so it must be how things are now. Also in the years past on the Rehab Unit, we were always so pleasantly pleased with the staff, the cleanliness, the greeting and smiling faces of the Ladies in tbe kitchen . Let me tell you thst is no more. Its filthy, staff unfriendly, young people dressed in street clothes so you dont know actually who is the kitchen staff. There was a young very unfriendly man there in jeans, hat on backwards, wearing ear plugs with rap music blaring. In my opinionthey must be desperate for staff or just do not care anymore. Id in the past gave Meriden five plus stars, but not anymore. Its dirty unproffessional and very disappointing and I myself will not refer anyone else there. Very saddened by how things have changed as Meridian had everything in one building to suit all aging needs. Just sad and disappointing.

Keep in mind...Meridian is a BUSINESS! Their goal is to make lots of $$$, by providing meals and a bed, while sitting your loved one in front of a tv all day or keeping them in bed. Warning...If your loved one needs additional care and attention, you will be required to hire an attendant at $21+/hour. Do the math...that is thousands of $$ a month! Look elsewhere for your loved one if Meridian will not provide the care they need, which they "should do" for the high fee they already charge per month. They do not have enough staff to go the extra mile and really "care" for your loved one!

They have a 2 year waiting list for the patio homes. We were not able to actually visit one of the patio homes as they are all occupied.

Response from Meridian Village
April 25, 2018Thank you for reviewing Meridian Village. Independent Living has so many benefits, that at times all our patio homes are occupied. But don’t let that discourage you! The waitlist timeframe can change quickly and we also offer additional options including Independent Living apartment homes.
This community is outstanding. The staff was nice and they were able to answer a lot of our questions, but we were misinformed on a few things for her care. This community appeared to be clean and maintained. Activities are offered to the residents. We would recommend that families tour this community for the care of a loved one

Response from Meridian Village
October 3, 2017Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! Service excellence is one of the things we pride ourselves on at Meridian Village, so I apologize that the information you received regarding care was unclear. This is not the customer experience we strive for. I would love the opportunity to speak to you and offer any clarification. Colleen Bottens Executive Director of Meridian Village [removed]
Meridian Village was a perfect fit for my mother-in-law. It is a very clean and well-maintained community. We love it. She is doing much better since being here and getting the care that she needed. The staff is very caring and friendly. My mother-in-law definitely likes the food, she wasn't eating at all when she first got here. They provide activities and encourage the residents to participate. She is interacting well and making new friends. This environment has made a great improvement in her life.

September 29, 2017Thank you for leaving a review! Your kind words are so appreciated especially when it comes to the care our staff provides. We look at what we do as a calling and a passion. And we totally agree - the food is fantastic. We'll also make sure to give a high five to our Executive Chef and his staff for their stellar job in keeping us all full :)
I liked this community very much however at the time they had a long wait list and I can understand why. The inside was nice clean not outdated presented a homey feel. The staff seemed nice and helpful answered our questions on the tour. It appeared they offered a fair amount of activities for the residents to join. The only major issues that I had was the wait list other than that very nice place.

Very nice place, good facilities and staff. Above our price range and too far from where my mother wants to live.

Our tour of the Meridian Village went well, but it was farther from our home than we wanted. The place was very clean and well maintained. Very ice place overall just not what we were looking for at the moment.

I toured this community for my mom. I was not happy with the memory unit because it was not what I expected. My mom would of been unhappy here. Very over priced for the care here. The staff were nice. The community seemed very gloomy. This was not a good fit for my mom for the care that she needed. Familes would need to see if this would be a good community.

Clean interior and outside. 1 bedrm apts., are huge w/lg kitchen, walk-in closet, lg bath, emergency call in bedrm. Each apt. has a 3x6' patio. Hospice care is allowed in the apt. Laundry taken care of by resident or staff. Housekeeping takes care of each apt/wk. Menue changes everyday. Bus service takes resident to Dr. appts. anywhere and to entertainment. They are a very good community and we are very happy with them. What really stood out to me about Meridian Village is that the interior is very well maintained and very clean. It seemed to be much better then the comparable communities in the area. The food is very good and overall it is just a very nice community that we are happy to be a part of.

A Place for Mom has scored Meridian Village 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
