I like Mather Place because everyone is my friend: the people who live here and the people who work here. I can be alone if I choose but I can also always find an activity or a friend to spend time with. We care for each other, we help each other, we have fun together, and we respect each other's privacy. Eating together makes the food, which is remarkably good, taste even better. Sharing activities makes them more fun. Being at Mather enriches my life.... Read more

My remote tour with Mather Place was fine. Everybody I interacted with was super accommodating and easy to work with. And I thought they showed their residence well via video call.
I lost my wife of 65 happy years and was comforted by the demons of loneliness. That's when I decided to make a move and seek a place where I could again return to a social environment. I looked at various places until I found Mather Place. I was immediately attracted by the friendliness of the community. I knew I had found my new home. After being at Mather Place for a while I now know I made the move and enjoying the social life and amenities that you find at Mather Place.
This setting I will keep in mind and hope to revisit with my family. I like that it is a non-profit and has a swimming pool for residents.

The location, being in the North Shore area intrigued me. I now feel I've made the right decision in making this beautiful place my home. The feeling of being safe here helps my security factor. When meeting some of the residents, I asked many of them what they liked most, and almost everyone said...friendliness....In addition, other chose the swimming pool, educational seminars, creative arts, movie theater, library and of course, many enjoyable musical pianists as part of our entertainment, with lovely programs. Also being an avid reader I am very pleased the Wilmette Library is close, and so very cooperative in being able to get the books we want with a delivery and pick up service. And, of great importance, knowing I've become spoiled with having two restaurants to choose from. Mather has a reputation for their delicious food. Management are doing their best in regard to keeping the residents here safe from the virus, hard work pays off, we have been very fortunate.

I thought I had a pretty good idea of what life would be like moving in from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment at Mather Place in Wilmette. We had the usual tours and meeting to help us. I have to admit I had no ideal of the extent of services we were able to be provided with. I knew I would no longer be preparing meals, doing dishes and laundering bed and towel linens; but there has been so much more that Mather Place offered. eg. fitness classes and a variety of programs to keep our minds and bodies busy. A BIG thank you to all the staff at Mather Place in Wilmette.

After living in FLA., in a beatuiful condo with a view of the ocean,it was difficult to find the right place for my Mom. After researching MANY senior communites, we decided on Mather Place. The food at the various restaurants is delicious. My Mom has enjoyed the tranquil patios and gardens. She has access to classes, entertainment and has thrived both physically and emotinally. I am keenly aware of the kind, inclusive community of the resident and staff. We have enjoyed patio visits, nice walks through the neighborhood. There are many opportunities for excercise, movies, education, art and wellness. Mather provides on site care choices if needed. Most importanly my Mom is safe and happy.

In the time of covid-19, my being a Mather Place resident is the best of places. I am impressed by the care and professional serices tailored to lessen the effects of restrictions imposed by the virus. Efforts included exercise classes, mental stimulation lectures, food, and meetings designed to keep all safe and healthy. Lastly, the Mather Staff is highly complimented by the residents for their efforts all of which is much appreciated. Thank you Mather Place.

You can't imagine how deep my gratitude goes. I'm sure there is another word that could help me sing the praises of Mather Place. The staff goes beyond the call of duty in making sure the residents are beyond content, to name a few, housekeeping, kitchen staff, transportation and concierge. I am one of the lucky recipients. I never thought I could feel so at home after moving from the West coast, Mather has exceeded my expectations of community living. Thank you for welcoming me home.

I wish I knew this before preparing my grandmother to move into The Mather. We were aware that when an apartment became available she would have to be medically, mentally and financially reviewed before accepted. In January, after nearly 2 years of being on the waitlist, we began this process. We weren’t worried; she swims 5 days a week on her own and is sharp like a whip. Her doctor wrote she had excellent health on her physical in December. We went in multiple times together to see the place and my grandmother met with a nurse. We were shown the exact apartment that was “available for her,” we were shown carpet samples to select from and were given the option to knock down a wall to open up the living room (and were given a bill for it $2500). We completed all of the paperwork and made the initial payment (10% which was $93,000). Then we were given a move in date of [date removed]. This to us sealed the deal so we put her condo on the market. LUCKILY, nobody made an offer because 1 MONTH later we were informed that she was denied acceptance. No explanation was available. The worst thing of all is the mental stress of going through this process. It has been very hard on my grandmother to make this mental shift and now she is told she is not accepted without any sort of explanation. It is really shocking to our whole family that the people in charge at The Mather apparently haven't thought about, or just don't care about the disruption and stress that they can cause by not handling things in a professional and sensitive way. It makes you wonder if this is indicative of how they treat their residents that were so blessed to be "approved".

The Mather Wilmette will promise your loved one the world before they sign the lease and move-in but the reality of living there truly doesn't hold up to the sales pitch. The culture is cold and uncaring to the point where the Mather Directors walk by residents and guests without making eye contact or saying hello. If you are in the elevator with a Mather Director, it is like being a ghost. The only kind and caring humans you will find in the building are the fitness staff (included in the rent) and the outside caregivers (who are an additional cost). The residents have opportunities to make suggestions at events like the invitation-only Food Committee but the Mather is focused on one thing and one thing only, cost cutting. Keep in mind the Mather is a for-profit business and so if there is a way to reduce staff, food quality, transportation or activities, they will to save a dollar.

The tour went well for me but I thought they were a high end place and not the best fit for me.

I like this facility but am disappointed they do not have a bathtub in any of the apartments, only showers. I will go back for a second view, however, on Dec. 1.

Mather Place is a very nice independent senior living community, I've been very impressed by everything I've seen here! We toured quite a few in the area before we selected one, and Mather Place really just had a much more friendly close-knit feel than some of the larger communities. The facility itself is beautiful, and they're currently undergoing a large renovation and expansion project. They've got all sorts of activities and events, and like I mentioned before everyone is very friendly. Whenever I visit my loved one I start wondering if maybe I should move in!

Nice place but admission endowment felt too high for me, and it didn't "catch my soul" to want to live there.

A Place for Mom has scored Mather Place 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
