As a resident of Kivel Memory Unit my mother received fantastic care in the hands of wonderful staff members. She was constantly engaged by various activities through out the day and totally enjoyed their daily music therapy program. The facility is very clean and well planned out to meet dementia needs. During her time at Kivel my mother was happy, healthy and had quality of life. Thank you Kevel for giving her dignity back!... Read more

My dad was welcomed with opened arms. He lived there before in independent living several years prior, so they knew him well. During COVID, because we couldn't visit him and take him out to exercise like we used too, his condition declined. Not a place for someone with disabilities, they are abandoned and left alone. My dad was blind and deaf. They started saying he needed more care, even though it was not true. One day he ended up in the hospital where he demonstrated symptoms of PTSD, when he recovered i asked him if he was treated well at Kivel and he said "No." It broke my heart. We helped employees there, bring food and toilet paper during pandemic and to learn they mistreated him was the worst feeling ever. We immediately moved him. We were fortunate to find him a home at [removed]. They took good care of him there - home cooked meals, great staff, even though he never fully recovered from the trauma he experienced. He was 98.

My mother was in the memory care unit several years ago due to alzheimers. the facility looks great but it's more for show. from the beginning my mother was deliberately locked out of her very nice room I suppose because it was easier to keep an eye on her if she was in the common room with everyone else parked in front of the always on giant tv. One of the biggest problems I had with this place is their lack of communication with me even though I visited once a week. I felt they didnt like me asking questions. questions seemed to be viewed as complaints or questioning their methods and authority. I had concerns that they were over medicating her to make her easier to manage but when I objected I was told she would have to leave the facility. Once I acquiesced to all the meds they allowed her to stay. She went in weighing 90 lbs and was ambulatory. She quickly ballooned up to a 140 lbs. And was no longer able to walk. I saw a number of residents come and leave after only a short time. I assume their loved ones pulled them out because they found it was not all it was cracked up to be. If you are not willing to totally turn over the care and wellbeing of your loved one to them this might not be the best fit no matter how nice it looks. While kivel is required by its federal funding to accept all regardless of religion, it is my observation that the nonJewish residents tended to be the ones who left after short stays more frequently.

While searching for a long-term assisted living situation for our disabled sister, several people had highly recommended this Kivel facility, so after a delightful tour of this very beautiful place, we confidently decided to arrange for her to live there. Very soon after moving in, however, she began complaining about the lack of service - not getting assistance as needed, not receiving her correct doses of medications at the proper times, and staff being very disrespectful to her. Sad to say, she rapidly deteriorated & had to be rushed first to the hospital - mainly to get her meds stabilized - then on to a skilled nursing/rehab facility for renewed physical therapy - because (as they stated) she had "back-tracked" in her mobility progress [removed}. So sad, as the environment is quite pleasing and most of the residents do seem happy (at least the ones who were out of their rooms and actively participating in activities). I must agree agree with this statement which a reviewer on another site made: "If your loved one is too much work for the staff they find political reasons to get rid of them and they DO get rid of them!!!!" Unfortunately, this too was our experience. Our sister was just too much trouble, I guess. Very disappointing. We are now searching for someplace which will be more suitable for her needs.

A Place for Mom has scored Kivel Manor 2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
