My experience's with Hurst Plaza are mixed. They need more help in the alzheimer unit. Not enough help for the amount of people in there. I do think they try to take decent care of patients, but no one wear's their own clothes even if they are labeled. And most of the patients don't get changed often enough. Some of the people need help to eat, or they just say no, and it is let go at that. sometimes it smells bad . Workers in general are friendly and some caring. A very difficult place to work.

Response from Hurst Plaza Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
July 11, 2014First and foremost we would like to sincerely thank you for providing us feedback and apologize that you were less than 100% satisfied about every aspect of your stay with Hurst Plaza. We truly strive to serve each and every resident or patient that stays with us so they leave us feeling completely fulfilled and enthusiastic that they got exactly what they wanted. We take it very seriously when we hear there are some that didn’t have this experience. Based on your comments we have investigated our current and recent staffing ratios overall and specifically in the secured unit. Additionally we have investigated our laundry protocols and done a facility wide Laundry audit. Further we have completed an audit of our continence program as well as our dietary and assisted feeding programs. These results are now available in the administrator’s office for review at any time. We hope you (and others concerned) will come review these with us to address each concern in depth. While we may have had some isolated examples where improvement can be made overall our protocols, care delivered, and outcomes achieved position us as leaders in the industry in our area. This is further evidenced by our state survey record of Zero Deficiencies for 2 of the last 3 years. Given the nature of the healthcare industry occasionally smells do occur. This is to be expected and is unavoidable. Certain illness and diagnosis bring with them loss of control over bodily functions. It is, however, unacceptable to leave these occasions unaddressed. We strive to address these immediately as they happen to ensure we provide an overall clean and inviting atmosphere free from lingering effects of these situations. We are truly blessed to have members of our team that embody our mission and spirit. This industry is a calling for most of us and that shows through with our team members. Our industry can be a challenge at times but here at Hurst Plaza we truly feel it’s our calling to care for those unable to care for themselves either temporarily or long term. We feel blessed to be a part of their lives during their care with us.
The staff was very pleasant, but I was not happy with the accomodations for the residents in the Alzheimer's specific area.
