This facility is safe, clean, and the staff is always working hard. The first few weeks transitioning were challenging. My loved one is gluten free and the kitchen staff needed to get to know her. She doesn't remember and/or eats what she wants. She did not make it easy for the kitchen staff, but they really try each day. So so grateful that she is there. Her apartment is great, too!

Response from Holiday Birch Heights
July 12, 2023We're grateful to have you and your family part of the Holiday by Atria family. We appreciate your kind compliments and will be sure share with our team.
Holiday Birch Heights were easy to work with and accommodating my loved one with short notice. There are washers and dryers on every floor. There is a fridge and sink in the apartment, and there are no open flames in the apartment. There are three meals a day with choices. My loved one can either eat in the dining hall restaurant style or pick it up to go and eat in their apartment. My loved one is complicated and complains about everything. So it's hard to tell if they are happy or not.

Think twice about selecting this facility. Staffing levels are woefully inadequate.; long waits at meal times (often close to an hour from seating to serving;) prices increasing at near 8% rates; food delivery for infirm residents are now at additional fees; local staff is very considerate, but corporate staff is invisible. Everything here recently has become all about the money!

Response from Holiday Birch Heights
January 16, 2023George, we appreciate having you in our community and are always open to feedback. Our dining room is really the central hub and heart of our community, and we want all our residents to join us there as much as possible so they can enjoy the company of their neighbors. Please note that for residents who are not feeling well, or have medical reasons for not being able to enjoy meals in our dining room, complimentary meal delivery is still available. If you have any additional concerns we’re also available at CustomerService@AtriaSeniorLiving.com.
The community has good amenities but needs work when it comes to functionality. There is only one elevator in the whole building but it does go out pretty frequently.

My siblings and I are so relieved that dad moved to Birch Heights. He enjoys the walking path. He is eating better and he joined the choir. The opportunity for him to socialize and have the support of new friends and very friendly staff has improved his depression since mom passed. What a difference. We have peace of mind now.

The staff and residents are very welcoming. My loved one is stubbornly independent and is thriving with meals and new friends . He says he feels stronger and enjoys all the free time he has to try new things. What a difference!

From our first appointment, to move in day, to continue care they were always accommodating and helpful. Every staff member from management to housekeeping appears to be there for the residents wants and needs. When Covid flared up again, they had to lock down a bit while maintaining services to the residents. My favorite service is the resident can use any other Holiday facility worldwide for a week at a time if they choose to travel out of the area.

One of the things that I especially like about Birch Heights is that if your apartment needs some type of maintenance, it gets taken care of promptly.

Our loved one was only at Birch Heights for a couple of weeks, but it was no fault of the community - they were an amazing community. The staff were amazing and it was such a positive drastic change we noticed with our loved one just in those couple of weeks. We started to notice just how incredibly happy our loved one was, and her apartment was just unbelievable. Birch Heights gave our loved one the chance to participate in activities she never would of done on her own, and she was quickly making friends. The staff really put themselves out there to speak with the families and keep everyone updated. They gave the families an idea on how things were progressing with their loved ones. It is an expensive place to send your loved one, but if you can afford it we would absolutely recommend them. They are an exceptional community.
The meals and dining service experience is pretty much 5 stars, however we do wish at times their social events or activities could be improved .
Staff is always friendly and always on top of things. Meals do not have a diabetic options to alternate out. During the lockdown they gave out the same food regardless of the residents diet, which was pancakes. Activities are great, they have exercise everyday for an activity that is very Elvis music heavy. They have an Elvis impersonator. They do bingo every week. They have something daily for everyone to do on the activities schedule, including a book club, knitting club, movie night, gardening club during appropriate times of year, etc. They do word games with a group. A stationary low key cruise ship. My loved ones room has a balcony, lots of light. Right up the street is a Rite Aid, super easy to get some prescriptions. Medical care is right down the street if needed. The residence offers a Wi-Fi and cable included in your room package. There is only one elevator, which seems to be down every 2 weeks. This makes an inconvenience if your up to the 4th floor. You can have a pet, for a fee, which you have to care for yourself, up to a certain size.

The gal who gave us the tour was extremely nice and I liked her a lot. I was not a big fan of how the facility looked, it felt more institutional like a nursing home or assisted living rather than independent living. I think this could be a great fit for some people, it was just not the right fit for us.
Beautiful facility, hair-dresser is nice, cleaners are great, food is good. It was the least expensive option we could find around and should have known something was fishy. I asked during leasing process about annual rent increase and they assured me verbally no major increases… incremental if anything. I would estimate that in 5 years my relative was staying there, the rent went up 9% annually! So eventually we (and many others) couldn’t afford it anymore and went through the very unfortunate circumstance of having to uproot relative AGAIN. The cost is a total bait and switch. Then after the move Birch Heights said my relative could have security deposit back but it’s been 3 months and still a “check in the mail” story. I don’t know if they are short on money and robbing peter to pay paul.

The community has bingo, checkers, games, and more for the residents to partake in. Overall it has been a good experience. The office staff have been friendly and helpful. I would recommend the community to others.

The staff are very nice and helpful. There are lots of activities, library, game room, hair salon, chapel and snack and coffee bar. All meals and cleaning included. Really like that residents seemed welcoming. The shuttle bus is a great option, especially over the winter. There are no buy ins or community fees which is important to my dad who is very money focused. I like we can hire caregivers when needed as dad ages. Two thumbs up!

Everyone is very friendly. The place offers a lot for their residents. With the exception of the food, my loved one is very pleased with it. Her main complaint about the food is that it's not soft enough for seniors to chew.

We chose Birch Heights because it was a nice facility and the apartments were newly renovated and looked brand new. They also did not have a large entrance fee like some others we saw. The staff were very accommodating and she said the food was always great with many choices. I thought the place was excellent and I would absolutely recommend them to others looking.

A Place for Mom has scored Holiday Birch Heights 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
