I think it's a very nice place. Everybody is very kind. It's clean. The community is small and set in a beautiful location. The building itself is an old monastery along a river, with a beautiful terrace. I think they could have more staff, although they do meet government regulations. And every place needs more help right now. I also think they need more activities, but I understand Covid restrictions preventing outings. The activities they do have are very nice. The food is good. Compared to other homes and what you get, I think it's a good value, although it's still expensive. One thing I wasn't expecting is there is little integration between the people who are living there. I thought it would be a very social environment for my loved one, but in reality people tend to keep to themselves.... Read more

My mom was in this residence in 2020 and was taken out 2 weeks before she passed as many of her needs were not being met as they said. I am very disappointed in this place as had too many issues to discuss. Communication is a big problem here. I am writing this as I want to help others not suffer like our family did . If you care about your mom or dad then don't put them in there. They day we were picking up my moms things ( which were all very dirty) we spoke with a lovely lady who was living there and was telling us the verbal abuse she was dealing with and was moving out. My other family members who might need a home one day will never live there. Take Care :)

Very nice. Beautiful grounds. Balcony courtyard room was beautiful $4600/month. Mom would love the view. Wrong type of bathtub,no walk in shower in that room. Cheaper rooms (suites)had cut out baths but one had windows above shoulder level and it was colder. The high ceilings in the smaller rooms not a plus, looks smaller.

My mother and I had a lovely visit of Governor's Walk. [name removed] was very friendly and informative. My mother liked the feeling of the residence, more specifically the dining room, common areas and the activity schedule. She could afford one of the smaller studios and is not quite sure yet if she's willing to downsize that much. We will continue to visit other facilities but definitely are keeping Governor's Walk as a top contender for now.

It is a very clean facility with friendly staff. It has an activity program, a visiting doctor and takes guests to medical appointments. My mother is well cared for.

My Mom is 89 years old and lived in her apartment until early this year. She was doing well but it was obvious that she needed not only some care but company throughout her day. She had family visits but we felt she needed more activities and personal contacts. She was not at all interested in looking at any retirement residences and very reluctantly visited Governor's Walk Retirement Residence with her Granddaughter. From the moment she pulled up to the building, her eyes lit up and she showed interest in viewing the residence. She said that as soon as she walked through the front door and was greeted, she felt at home and comfortable. She has lived there 9 months and has nothing but positive reflections on each day. She likes all the people who live there and all the people who attend to everyone's needs throughout the day. The management staff is professional and always helpful to her and to us as family members who make requests or ask for information. Everyone that helps Mom keep her room tidy, who make her delicious meals every day, who provide social activities, who provide medical and nursing assistance go above and beyond to make her feel at home. We could not be more pleased with Governor's Walk or with A Place for Mom who helped us find her new home. My Mom is very happy there and I hope for years to come!

Toured this spectacular residence. You can feel the ambiance the minute you walk through the door. The recent renovations and upgrades make this a premier spot in Ottawa.

My overall rating is really 3.5 Stars. The location is lovely with the park and the governor's residence being very close by. The building is in need of a little TLC in terms of rennos. the room was impressive however the balcony although spacious had rotted wood again in need of renovations. the studio apartment with balcony at starts at $4,600. this makes it more expensive than the beacon Heights community.

Consumers Choice Award 2018 and in past years. was a former monastery/friary in the 1950's but certainly has been upgraded since then. Has 64 residences with parks nearby where they regularly go for picnics also next to the governor generals park. Can easily see the parliament buildings. Located in the Edinburgh community bordering on Vanier. Very quiet neighbourhood with easy access to parkland and waterways . Red Seal chef food looks very good. Large patio deck with lots of space for celebrations, lots of outings and music, community service. NEGATIVE: Since this residence is older many of the rooms have older furnishings. (Cabinets, refrigerators, faucets) slowly they are modifying their rooms but are not opposed to the resident to upgrade themselves. No pool on site.

Very nice facility. Bright spacious studio suites, a lovely dining room, friendly staff, an excellent program of activities for the residents -- I was impressed. The only drawback is that it is a good 45 minutes from where I live; I think that will make it difficult for me to just 'pop' over to see her. I am still thinking about that aspect.

Wonderful atmosphere and very friendly residents. Ground level accommodations not in Mom's favour, but will schedule a trial.
