Mom's Home

Our family chose Gambrill Gardens for mom initially because of the cost and the friendliness of the people who were here when we visited. We went to several facilities and most of them seemed like they were kind of quick-ish, and they weren't very welcoming at all, but everyone in Gambrill seemed happy. The recent construction has created some issues but are temporary and we're looking forward to the upgrades. There are some long hallways but there are elevators in the building and as mom goes by everyone seems to know each other by name.... Read more

Poor

I happy to say Mom moved out yesterday. She has lost a lot of weight due to the un appetizing food and you have to order a week ahead, Who knows what they want a week from now. They never have BBQ on the fancy patio. The washing machine schedule doesn't work because they have 30 minute time slots and the machine take 40 minute so its always messed up. I can not recommend this place because they did not meet Moms needs.

Was not the place for us.

I use a wheelchair and they have carpet on the floor and the room sizes were small so it was hard for me to get around. Due to the virus, they cut out all housekeeping. The accountant charged for every little thing. Things were different than when we first moved in. Most of the staff was very friendly.

Beautiful community. Very big. Had a guitarist playing music for the residents. Good energy. Nice size apartments with two large closets and sit down shower. Not sure if the dinner set up would work, residents make reservation then line up to enter the DR, seemed like they were standing in line to get seated for a long time.

Happy Times

After searching and checking out facilities in the St. Louis County area, I decided to move to Gambrill Gardens. It is the wisest decision ever. I describe it as a large package with all the amenities you would ever want or need. I'm so happy to live here with a caring and loving staff.

Touring Communities

We visited Gambrill Gardens. They were doing a lot of upgrades to their food service. They had only one meal a day, which was fine. The apartments were nice, and the location was good for our son, so we were considering it. They had many things to offer for activities and had laundry services. They had a complete kitchen if you had a one-bedroom unit, plus a separate living and dining area besides the kitchen. The staff was very good. We had a very good lunch there. They came and talked to us while we were eating and were very cordial.

STAY AWAY

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. GAMBRILL GARDENS IS NOT ALL INCLUSIVE, THEY WILL NICKEL AND DINE TO[Removed], EVERYTHING YOU DO WILL COST YOU. I AM SURPRISED THAT MANAGEMENT HAS NOT FOUND A WAY TO CHARGE FOR THE AIR YOU BREATH HERE. THE FOOD THEY FORCE YOU TO PURCHASE (YES YOU ARE FORCED TO PAY FOR ONE MEAL A DAY) IS NOT PREPARED BY A AWARD WINNING CHEF AND I USE CHEF LOOSELY. THE FOOD IS LACKING COLOR, NO SAUCES AND IS TASTELESS. YOUR FED IN A DIRTY CONSTRUCTION AREA. THE SERVINGS ARE SMALL AND YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED ANYTHING EXTRA SO YOU ARE MADE TO RETURN TO YOUR ROOM HUNGRY. THEIR PUNY SERVING OF COTTAGE CHEESE IS SO PRECIOUS THAT THEY WILL NOT LET YOU HAVE IT IF YOU GET A DINNER SALAD. AGAIN YOU ARE FORCED TO PAY FOR THESE MEALS. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE INTERNET, BASIC CABLE AND PHONE IN YOUR ROOM, THE THINGS THAT ARE INCLUDED IN OTHER ASSISTED LIVING COMMUNITIES FOR FREE. THE ACTIVITIES COST YOU, YOU ARE FORCE TO PAY TO GO ONE DAY A WEEK TO THE STORE, THEY EVEN HAVE THE NERVE TO CHARGE FOR SUNDAY BINGO AND CHOIR. THIS IS JUST A DUMPING SPOT FOR THE ELDERLY, PLEASE HAVE PRIDE IN WHERE YOUR LOVED ONES LIVE, SO STAY AWAY IT IS ONLY GOING TO GET WORST.

Response from Gambrill Gardens

January 8, 2018

Gambrill Gardens offers three types of senior living programs. One program that benefits seniors with lower income and thus the program provides choices to suit their budget. It appears this may be the program you are referring to. The other two programs offered are predominantly all-inclusive for the ease of the resident and their families. Please note our Assisted Living is all-inclusive due to that care level and is not related to this review. Our parent company strives to accommodate our residents with a vast array of services and amenities to further enhance the senior lifestyle offered by our community. Our renovation is almost now complete. It will feature a lovely new dining room along with a bistro café which will allow us to offer three meals daily and a host of choices. Furthermore, it will offer several new community spaces such as our multigenerational family room, game room, theater, wellness wing and more. We have open communication with our residents and our senior staff is available to discuss any concerns that residents may have.

Starting A Rehab Phase

The community was nice overall. They are starting a rehab phase to update different things. The community as a whole was too big we felt. The rooms were nice. One thing we didn't like was that you had to pre order your meals 10 days in advance.

Response from Gambrill Gardens

January 8, 2018

When our new company purchased Gambrill Gardens in 2016, it was with a plan to renovate and expand this wonderful community. While transitions can be difficult, we have since brought forth new and expanded amenities and services to our residents. Our renovations are due to be completed in early 2018. Be assured that our focus is on our residents’ well-being, happiness and their long term living in Gambrill Gardens.
