Discovery Village at Southlake AL/MC

It's been a good fit for us! No community is perfect but the leadership in this community works with residents and families to make it personalized and the best experience possible for our father!!

My mother has been living at Discovery Village, Southlake Assisted Living for 20 months. We have been very happy with the level of care that she has received. They have a number of activities both in the building and out. The food is not gourmet, but is good. The Physician's Assistant that she sees is excellent. She is very quick to respond and sees her in her apartment. Any complaints have been addressed quickly.

The standard of care is very high. All the décor and finishes in the units as well as throughout the facility are new and well maintained. The activity directors are always available and get to know residents personally. They don't have a ton of residents so they really get to know your loved one on a personal level. Great communication with family and doctors, physical therapists and even rehab facilities are on site.

My mother has been very happy at Discovery Village. The front desk and non nursing staff have been really amazing to work with. I don't hear much from nursing staff, but my mother has been healthy and not needing much care. I don't have any real complaints. If anything needs attention in her room. I tell them and it is fixed.

I did a lot of research before moving my Mom into Discovery Village at Southlake. We have found all the good things we heard about them were correct. Every time I visited the whole facility was clean (they were even in the middle of a remodel when she moved in) and there's no typical "old people's home". Her room is always clean and her bed made. The staff takes fabulous car of my mom. In fact, I'd say she's a bit spoiled. They are so sweet to her and their interactions make her happy. She will say to me how nice they are and how good they are to her. They call me any time anything is out of sorts or she has an issue, so I'm always aware of her health and condition. The move in was easy and her apartment is cute and she loves it. The meals I think are very good for a large group meal. Mom is a bit picky and sometimes doesn't like some of the food, but overall she says they do a good job. She never turns down their desserts though!! We would definitely recommend Discovery Village Southlake to anyone looking for a place for their loved one. Mom has been very happy there, which is the one thing you always hope for when your parent gets to the age you have to make these kinds of decisions. She loves to come home with me for visits, but she is always happy to get back to "her home" and is apparently, as I've heard, quite the social butterfly. So she loves to be back chatting and visiting with both residents and staff.

Our loved one [name removed] has settled in nicely... he plays cards, and participates in many of the activities that are offered at the community. With the onset of dementia I'm so happy to see her staying so alert.

My loved one is a resident at Discovery Village at Southlake Assisted Living and Memory Care. Overall, the experience has been very good at this facility. The cleanliness and friendliness are great. I would recommend this facility to family and friends.

I think for this point in life, Discovery Village at Southlake is a good place, and I would recommend it to others. But I don't 100% believe the hype about any of these types of places.

Overall I think they do a really good job. The facility is clean and very nice. Like everywhere else, they've been a little short-staffed, which makes it tough. I would like to see better communication with the family. And it's not always easy to know who to call for what either. But overall we're pleased and happy with our choice.

The front Staff and leaders [name removed] at Discovery village are excellent but the nurses and cleaning staff are not good. You have to make requests to leaders when there are issues. Several times when I would visit my loved ones room smelled bad and was dirty no sheets on her bed. If reported to top management they fix it, but I should not need to do that. Management needs to run quality checks. If you aren't checking on your loved one care is minimal and staff is not checking on your loved one. They also charge a fee for every time a meal is delivered which I find really petty at a place of this price level. I want more quality checks bottom line.

We chose this community because of the level of support they have for the elderly, they have an incredible amount of medical assistance onsite. Our loved one has fully been able to participate in the activities yet but they have so many different things to offer.

Really nice community. Well laid out and clean. Residents all looked to be very happy and Kathy was super and answered all our questions. The only issue we see is it was a bit over mom's budget. We want to keep this one in mind as a possible.

This is the best place of its type in the Southlake/Grapevine/Keller/Colleyville area. None of them are perfect. The industry typically has a good deal of turnover in staff, and Watermere has that problem just like all of their competitors do. The staff they do have is kind and caring. I think They try very hard to provide good care for the residents. It’s a nice facility, and they did a very good job looking after our mom.

After the neuropsychiatric diagnosis of my mother, ordering she cannot return to independent living, I was given 3-4 days to find an assisted living facility. I subsequently had many to tour and 1 to choose, for a paramount reason, my mother’s happiness & health. Watermere made it an easy decision; the staff, facility, activities, menu, size of apartments, quality, accommodations, security & other residents are incomparable. I was initially impressed, now 3 weeks later, constantly astonished at all they do for my mother. My mother is so HAPPY & glows, after being lonely & depressed at [removed] for a year. My mother is treated like a queen by the staff and I’m in awe how they often ask her if there is anything at all they can further do for her, they already consistently go the extra-mile. Watermere has exceptional focus on mom’s heath, they provide 1 nurse for every 7 residents and physicians come to the facility for any medical needs my mother has; additionally they have a physical therapy center in facility. The staff keeps me well informed at all times and any concerns I have are resolved rapidly. I watch how the staff interacts with the fellow residents; each occupant is given same quality of care as my mother and the look of happiness abounds on their faces. I was faced with such a significant decision when I was told mom needed to be placed into an assisted living facility and afforded little time to reach such a critical resolution. Watermere, thank the Lord, was a godsend and I could not be more content when I see my mother happy & smiling again. I with great confidence recommend Watermere to anyone seeking an extraordinary home for their loved one.

LOVE , LOVE , LOVE this place. It has everything we wanted and needed for our family members.The staff was great, [Name removed] made very sure We had all we needed and them some. The interactions with those that live there and staff was a blessing to watch. We are very happy!! It was clean, no bad smells, lots of choices for residents. We noticed that everyone we visited with watched we all very relaxed and happy. Not 1 sour face.. Everyone was so helpful and it just felt like home. This was the 1st place that we had 0% complaints on.Both assisted and memory care side was comfy and well thought out. We have no problems in feeling that our family would be just as happy here as they should be and deserve.

Very nice. Prefer a smaller size community and less fancy.

I ended up picking this facility for my Mother because of the staff. The staff members seemed to be on top of everything and if I ever have a problem, they take care of it immediately. As soon as my mom moved in, people came in to see her and to get her involved in the community. They are very involved and always know everyone’s name. I feel like they go above and beyond their job duty. The building itself is very clean, well decorated, and it even feels like a lodge. Food is a very big thing with my Mother and the residents even talk with the chef to give him complaints and things they would like to see. For activities, they offer things like movies, bingo, live entertainment, art classes, and trips to restaurants. I would recommend this facility to other families.

My mom is here currently. This facility is kept clean, the nurses are great, and Mom really likes her roommate. She’s well fed, they watch her constantly, and the facility is upgraded so it doesn’t really look like a nursing home. They provide a few activities like painting, church services, and sometimes there’s singing. Every time I’m there her room is very clean. Every meal includes 2 different meal options that she can choose from. The staff is always friendly and Mom is even able to get her hair done. They really get her out and socializing with the other residents so she isn’t stuck in her room and keeping to herself at all, which is important for people with dementia. I would recommend them.
