If you don’t read another word, hear this: check on your people or install a camera! CL- MB (Now Meadowlark) Nursing Home may be top-rated, but they employ questionable staff. During my mom’s stay, we had one amazing CNA, but many others were average, and a few mishandled her. We caught one CNA intentionally mishandling my 81-year-old, non-verbal mom, who had dementia and other health issues, on camera. When we reported it, the supervisor assigned extra training for all CNAs and said she’d “talk to” the CNA involved. We were told there would be no retaliation and that he wouldn’t return to my mom’s room. But that night, for the first time in over six weeks of using the camera, it went offline. From that night on, my mom wasn’t the same. It’s gut-wrenching to think about what happened during the time that the camera was off. Always advocate for your loved ones and never assume a facility’s reputation ensures good care. You can never be too careful.
