5 star!

Senior Living Care was not an option I ever considered....however circumstances developed with my mother so we checked out Cedarhurst. I loved it for my mom and she loved it. It's never an easy adjustment for someone to give up their home and independence, but the staff at Cedarhurst has gone above and beyond to make my mother's transition a smooth one.

moving from the familiar comforts of your long time home to a new setting certainly is an anxiety filled event for all family members. What was originally planned as a relatively short term stay has turned into something longer. The flexibility is a life saver. I am much relived that our parents are in a spot where they are safe, well-fed/well cared for and kept active with a wide variety of activities!

Great place!

All of the staff is friendly and they make you feel welcome. The food is excellent and [name removed] the activities director is amazing. I’m so glad we moved my Dad here. He is very happy here and our family is relieved Dad is in a safe and caring community! I would give 10 starts if I could!

Excellent

It has been a good experience so far. My mom seems to like it very much, which is a pleasant surprise (we initially figured she wasn't going to). She feels a part of the family there. She's a pretty shy person and is already participating in activities, which is a BIG thing. And she likes the food.

Caring Community

Cedarhurst is a caring community not just another assisted living facility. From the first tour to the end of the move-in the staff have gone out of their way to help our mom get settled in. There are many activities to choose from each day of the week. Mom's apartment feels like home with high ceilings, spacious rooms and big windows that let in the sunshine! The food is excellent! The menu is extensive with many options to choose from at each meal. The facility is clean and bright and feels warm and homey in every area. Our mom enjoys the walking path around the lovely garden as well as the covered porches where we can gather together. The best feature of this community is the staff. They have welcomed our mom with open arms to assist her as she transitions in and gets to know her neighbors. Many thanks to all our friends at Cedarhurst!

Our Cedarhurst tour was exceptional! The staff and residents were so friendly. our lunch was delicious and the studio apartment we looked at was clean and inviting. My mom felt like a "queen for the day," as they rolled out the red carpet for us.

Positive experience until my parent began to fail

My parent lived in this facility for 4 years. In general, the facility is clean and well-maintained. Staff are helpful and friendly. My parent did complain about a decline in the quality of the food when the company changed from Grand Victorian to Morningside. There are plenty of activities for residents to engage in, if desired. My reduction in rating is due to the end point of our experience. My parent began a sudden decline and the administration demanded immediate presence of myself (I lived 200 miles away) or a home health aide on a Friday at 3pm. When I asked for help and/or recommendations in locating someone, I was told to check the yellow pages. Most offices were closing or had no one to place at such short notice. I ended up having to move my parent the next day. As my parent was dying over the next few weeks, I was simultaneously trying to clear her apartment. The administration asked more than once when the apartment would be vacated (it was paid through the end of the month), because they had someone who wanted to move in right away. It felt like my family was now unimportant, except as revenue for the facility and that they couldn't get us out of there fast enough. My parent's death went unremarked with the exception of emails to come pick up mail.

A very good place

It has a "happy" feeling with music, entertainment, and activities to engage the residents. The staff and facility were very good but my mother required a higher level of care than this facility could give, it is not a locked facility . I would recommend The Grand Victorian to anyone!

Excellent Facility

It was a hard decision for my grandparents to leave her their of 56 years, and move into a retirement facility. Though The Grand Victorian isn't "home", it is definitely the next best thing. We are very happy with the facility, staff, food, and care. Grandmother is more active than she has been in years. She is happy, and is always doing an activity or socializing. It's fun listening to her tell us about the local "gossip". Grandfather is in the moderate stages of Alzheimer's Disease, but is happy, and gaining back some weight. He appears to be content and fusses about needing to get bigger pants. Overall, once Grandmother decided she needed help, moving into The Grand Victorian, was a great decision.
