Brookdale San Marcos

The time at San Marcos was very short but very positive.. I would totally recommend them. We were so pleased with the Brookdale experience We transferred my mother to a facility in Pennsylvania also a Brookdale. I don't believe we could have had better care provided to her. They are great. I totally recommend them every chance I get. The staff seem to actually want to do their jobs well.

I'd say my sister is very happy. Some minor issues about meds distribution but overall everything seems to be going well.

The nurses are nice but the administrator's are pretty incompetent. The most recent issue is being billed massively over quoted rates without explanation

This facility is among the best.. Very congenial population. Conscientious staff with professional execution. Diversified curriculum and we'll rounded menus for a great choice of venues. The food is balanced and proportionate.. The staff should recommended. Thanks

When it comes to the overall cleanliness, they could do a little better with some of the appliances and overall open spaces (stains on carpets, etc.) However, based on the experience with have had with Brookdale San Marcos, we would absolutely recommend them to other families.

I would rate Brookdale a 5 on all. I love the liveliness here. The residents are very nice and welcoming. I'm particularly impressed w the programs. Virtual reality tours, TED talks, book club, special discussions, films, and classes from U of C at San Marcos. These are addition to the games, art, etc. I highly recommend Brookdale.

I would say that overall they took great care of my mom I picked the place because the hospital would only release her to a full time nursing facility. I would recommend to others.

The interview was wonderful, but once we got my sister moved in the communication fell apart. They were supposed to come by and give her a tour of the facility, but no one showed up. Housekeeping did not come for 2 weeks until I found them in the hallway and asked about it, and they said they did not know she was moved in. Her heat was a problem for over a month and no one seemed to be able to figure out the problem. She is paying a lot for 2 people assisted transferring for bed, dressing bathing, etc. She is getting only 1 person more than 80% of the time. I know that was from under staffing, but compensation should be made. Most of the time she does not like the food and the portions are small and when she has asked for more, she has been told "no". When her bill for personal care came, it was over $1700 more than we were given. It has taken us a month to get someone to sit down and explain why, but we do not understand how they can change those amounts once she has moved in. Her needs have not changed,, if anything, they have improved. I can not get the Sales & Marketing Director to return my call to address this issue. Overall, my sister likes the facility, most of the care people treat her with kindness and respect, and we would hate to have to move her. I would caution anyone looking to move here to not move in on a weekend. I don't know how to get them to honor the quoted price for personal care...we even have it in writing. I don't know if these issues are the same all over.

My mom is enjoying living at Brookdale. She is settling in and has had a couple things come up but it's being attended to. I picked Brookdale for her because it was in the same neighborhood as her previous apartment, close to her doctors, relatively close to my family, clean community, discounted rent, amenities are a la carte not tiered for pricing, and there was a full kitchen if she chose to use it.

Some of the staff members would rate a 4 on the scale, but others would rate more like a 2. The quality of care services is mixed as well.. For the activities, we just got a new person so it is too soon to tell. The location of the activities is difficult and notification regarding activities is poor.

Mom moved in four months ago. At first things were fine. Unfortunately things have been deteriorating. Small things like a broken toilet seat and vertical blinds that have never worked have not been repaired despite numerous requests. The facility had both flooding and a fire. Now they are raising the prices to compensate for that. Staff who have been there a long time have left. Also, there is no longer any transportation available for shopping or groceries. Food options in the dining room have been limited. Mom wants to leave. I don’t blame her. We will be looking into other facilities. So disappointing.

The staff was great to deal with. They were kind and respectful to my mother. The residents seemed to be content in their daily experience. They seemed to be happy there. Housekeeping was great, there were not any issues. The only communication problems stemmed from us not knowing the questions to ask. The whole process is hard because there really is no guide to it all. You really figure it out on the fly. Each situation is unique and everyone's ability to deal with it is different. The move in and out was easy. There are carts to use and maintenance people to help if needed. Overall our experience with Brookdale San Marcos was top notch. We were very satisfied with the whole process. To the point that we even moved her into another Brookdale facility in Pennsylvania to have her closer to us. We have found that we are very happy with it here as well. I believe Brookdale must have some magic in choosing their staff. I have not met more caring people doing this work. We have highly recommended Brookdale San Marcos to anyone we know looking for Senior Living Assistance.

Nice area, economic and clean. We picked this community because they had a 1st floor unit with access to grassy area for her dog. It was also close proximity to me.

Everything is great there ot enough things to do activities I would suggest creating a movie theater which would show a movie at 2 and 6 every day. I think people would love it and it would be inexpensive

I think making a decision to move here was based on my changing health and well- being. I knew i could no longer live alone,and found that moving here has been a good decision because I have support and I have met a lot of really nice people. My friends from before have all noticed a change in me as well. I am more outgoing and am happy with my positive changes. The dining here is great I have gone from an unhealthy low weight to gaining back and looking healthy

Overall, my experience has been very pleasant. i was going downhill where I was living before. Now I am thriving. I have gained back 10 pounds, whereas before I was losing weight. The dining room staff here is very helpful and friendly. They help me order meals and assist in choosing substitutions. The meals are delivered promptly. Most of the meals are very tasty and a few are not. The ladies that shower me are very caring. They apply lotion after the shower, then help me get dressed. I am trying new experiences and making new friends. I would recommend this facility as a friendly, growing environment.

Brookdales staff and residents Are very nice. They have a nice range of activities, with Bingo, classes, card groups and discussions. There’s something for everyone. The residents are very social and always getting together.

My experience s vast. I’ve been here for one year. in and out of therapy at different facilities, Brookdale is the best, things run on time and are orignized. Brookdale is the best. Everything here is on time

I’ve been living here for 13 years. I really like it here but there’s not enough to do on the weekends. The food has been very good lately. The chef is going to add Indonesian food because sometimes we need a little more spice.
