Our family member recently moved to Brookdale Potomac and is receiving excellent care. The nurses and other staff have been professional, attentive, kind and patient. He is able to receive PT, OT, primary care and diabetic care onsite. And he enjoys the home-cooked food and many social activities, including musical performances and field trips. The resident rooms and common areas are clean, spacious and bright, with a beautiful outdoor patio area. It's a friendly atmosphere, with a resident dog and very caring people, in a beautiful setting. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for assisted living or memory care.... Read more

Brookdale Potomac is directly across the street from my folk's old house, which made it the only one my mother would agree to move into after 4 months of arguing. It's a lovely facility with a great staff, and while not as expensive as some places I looked at, I think it's still very pricey.

The sales pitch does not match the experience. The staff walks out at 5:00 instead of a warm hand off to the people on the next shift. Communication is awful. Emails are not returned. If they are they don’t send what you’re asking for. Residents are in the dark about when laundry/shower/cleaning. Not sure cleaning is happening at all. They do not wish to rectify incorrect invoices. They simply want you to pay and ask for reimbursement later. Broken things take two weeks plus tons of begging to be fixed. Thermostats are broken in both apartments my parents occupy. Not at all what we expected in the worst ways.

September 17, 2024We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and hope you will contact our management team to further discuss.
I would never ever recommend Brookdale Potomac to anyone who has a loved one that is not fully physically and mentally capable of taking care of themselves on their own. This is NOT an assisted living space. It is also NOT a Hospice friendly or Hospice knowledgeable place- which they told us they were. No one should be referred here.

I looked at this community along with several others in the area. This was a good community. We allowed our loved one to make the choice. Brookdale was out of our price range it was way more expensive than the others.
My loved one and family are very happy with Brookdale. The staff are very kind and make sure they say hello to me anytime I visit my loved one. This has been a very good experience for us. All the administrative aspects have been handled very professionally. They made sure that we had all of our questions answered, and understood all the details. There are three meals served a day. The apartment for my loved one has a nice sized kitchenette in it. The laundry service is provided by the community and done weekly, or as needed.

I'm not that thrilled with Brookdale Potomac. They were TOO quick to get back to me after I was referred to them - they gave off the impression of ambulance chasers. Whoever came to our house to do the assessment of our loved one was either not very honest or not very thorough. So our loved one is having some struggles. She keeps falling. They're not helping her to the bathroom, and they're leaving her wet. They'll often go many hours without checking on her. Some of the staff are nice, but others are rude. The CNAs are not that knowledgeable. They had a Covid outbreak, and they didn't notify anyone. The facility itself is lovely, and it's clean. The food is good. But they do not have enough staff. I think what it comes down to is that Brookdale is a big chain, and I feel like they're more concerned about their budget than their residents.

They have an excellent staff here. The community is nice and clean. The food could improve on the quality of taste for the residents. They community does provide options for the residents to choose from for meals. There are three meals a day provided to the residents. There may be a small delivery fee to have the meals delivered to the resident's room.

This community was dark depressing and would not have considered probably one of the worse communities that I visited.
This is a really good community and they try very hard and they are responsive to my concerns once I tell them the concerns. They are a very responsive community with my loved one. Sometimes I do have to micro manage from time to time and they still getting used to my loved one during the transition period.

We had a really great tour experience with Brookdale Potomac and liked this facility. We were impressed with our tour guide and all of the information that he gave us. They were wonderful with the follow up and gracious when we told them we had decided on another place. The only turn off for us was the odor we got when in the residential area.
Brookdale has a huge variety of activities, our loved ones have a monthly calendar that shows all the daily activities. So far they have had not one complaint about the meals or dining service. Brookdale was very competitive in price for everything they had to offer, and our loved ones apartment was newly renovated.

This community was okay but it did not match or come close to the community that I was really interested in for my loved one.

At the end of the day, you're not going to find a group of people who are more caring. I really do feel they did everything they could to give my loved one dignity and comfort and give her what she needed. Because of Covid, there were so many restrictions and policy changes, and I felt they were trying to do as much as they could for the residents and their families within those parameters being forced on them. Was it perfect? No. But I really felt they tried to do their best. And if something wasn't perfect, they knew it, and they tried to change it. The food was fine, not gourmet dining by any sense, but based on the target audience it seems okay. On paper, the activity offerings look good, and I think they really do try to have a good calendar of opportunities for people to get involved and do things. My loved one had vision issues - I would have liked to have seen more accommodation for her involvement. She would have needed a one-on-one person to walk her through, and I think she missed a lot of the opportunities. Their costs are in line with similar facilities in the area. I was far less concerned about the money and most concerned that she was getting the care she needed.

My loved one was here for only 3 nights. We were called to let us know that he was not doing good, so we came to the community to see our loved one and no one told us that he already passed. The community did not communicate and they were very uncaring and cold. The billing was very general and I asked for a breakdown of the billing and we felt they handled the billing poorly and did not explain why they charged us for a full month plus an extra 800 dollors. I would not recommend this community to others.

This is a beautiful community with super nice people. I'm able to compare this community to an extremely high end community where my father was prior. The care here far exceeds the care received prior.

We had a family friend who lived at this community, he lived here for about four months. This community was tremendously helpful for him. He did wish there was more plentiful portions of the food, and if the food could be a little bit warmer when it was served. It was essential for him to be out of his home, and this community made it very easy for him to adjust to the new changes. He was able to do his physical and occupational therapy there which was nice. He had a bedroom, a living room, and a small kitchen area. We were able to get him some additional furniture to make it comfortable. In some ways the care services were very helpful, but he had other family members come care for him around the clock, so we didn't have to utilize all the care services provided. The staff was very helpful to our family when they came to help him out. This community would have music playing all the time which he absolutely loved.

My review is from our experience a year ago. I would want people to know when looking intro Brookdale Potomoc that my overall score was low because of the management. They were lacking and definitely could improve. There were a lot of lapses in their communication and effectiveness. They do not have a lot of activities provided at this community. My sister was young and it seemed that the population was a bit difficult to have different activities for people who do not have memory issues.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
