There is always 1 or 2 that are not very friendly. When it comes to the care services sometimes the quality of care will slip through the cracks. For the value for cost it is overpriced. For the price, patients should be treated like kings and queens, not reliable/efficient in care and a few areas-food for one. Management is the key. A change of management has improved the facility's care.

Response from Brookdale Lake Charles
June 15, 2023Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. By giving us your feedback, you are helping us to understand what we do well and what we could focus on improving. Please be assured your feedback will be reviewed and used to help better serve our residents and their families.
We toured Brookdale Lake Charles and it was okay. The facility met or exceeded all of our requirements and the location was perfect for us. However, it was an older facility and felt much more "institutional". They were also vague with regard to cost structure and we'd gotten reviews from friends and acquaintances that staffing there had been an issue (in fairness, this has been a factor everywhere). Overall, it just wasn't a good fit for us.

All the residents but one had some degree of dementia. I had no one to interact with. Present accurately the nature of the resident population. I would have known I was not going to remain there.

I do not recommend the community. They are understaffed and they don't do what they are supposed to. Anything you ask the staff to do, they do not respond to the requests of the family. The meals aren't very good, and there is only one option for the residents. The community provides three meals a day. They provide very poor hygiene, dressing, and bathing assistance to the residents. As far as I know the medication management is okay. They aren't able to keep my loved one dry. They can be rough with the residents when they are assisting with dressing my loved one. I have seen other residents leave the community due to the community's issues.

Response from Brookdale Lake Charles
May 26, 2022We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents and their families. Our management team has reviewed these concerns and we wish to assure you the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority.
The only thing that we have noticed is that the monthly rate is not the same each month. We then are waiting on credits from the main office. The communication with the local community to the main office could be improved upon. The staff are great to work with anytime I have questions or concerns about my loved one. Some of the activities the community has included music, happy hour, bingo, field trips, and more for the residents to choose from. They even have a calendar they provide the residents. The apartment, housekeeping, utilities, laundry, transportation, and changing of linens is included in the monthly rate. It is like a true apartment, the resident is able to have friends stay and spend the night with the resident.

I'm not happy with the care. I feel like they're short handed. They don't give you the coverage that you need when you need it. There's not a lot of one-on-one hands-on care. I feel like the staff do what they can. Instead of working on internal solutions with me, administration told me right off the bat to get a sitter for my loved one. They were fair in that they discounted the care cost. But they're just shorthanded. The facility itself is nice as far as looks and cleanliness. It seems like it would be decent place if your loved one has lower care needs.

Our loved one has one of the bigger rooms at the community which is very nice. He really like the openness of the room.

We chose Brookdale Lake Charles because they jumped on things and got everything done pretty quick. I am glad we went with them, they were the first ones back up and running after the storm. They have been great with communication, we do email back and forth frequently and they also do zoom calls. It think it is a great place all around and we are thoroughly satisfied with everything we are getting from them.

My mother moved into Brookdale, and overall, it has been a worthwhile experience. While the nighttime people aren’t quite as attentive as I’d like them to be, the daytime staff are very good about keeping the residents involved and active. They have lots of activities available to keep the residents stimulates such as sing-alongs, walk about activities, puzzles, and games. The community is also clean. They are doing some renovations now like painting and hanging new light fixtures, but overall, they do maintain a clean place, and I feel the renovations speak to their concerns of keeping the community safe and well maintained. I’d definitely recommend Brookdale to others.

Mom has just completed her first week at Brookdale i n Lake Charles, La. She certainly appears to be happy with the choice she has made. We hope the first week is a true expectation of the peace of mind we want for her and she is expecting for herself. Thank you very much and if requested we will provide comments in the future. Very impressed with the facility, friendly staff, and liked what they had to offer, seemed like very genuine, up front people with very good activities, etc. Do wish there apartments looked more like an apartment with walled off bedroom, etc. but not that important.

My mother is adjusting well at Brookdale Lake Charles. The staff meets her needs but sometimes they could be more attentive and could use more help. She isn't involved in activities but they encourage her to join in.I like that they allow you to purchase meals and have lunch with your loved one's. We chose Brookdale because it seemed like the best pick for my mother and she would be most comfortable here.

They've been good. There were a couple of communication issues but they have since been resolved. They are doing a good job. He isn't active so they are attempting to get him involved. My father is an old timer and enjoys Cajun food. He doesn't like the meals that they prepare but I think they are very good. We chose this community because I was in town visiting and toured with him. When it came time to move him into a community we selected Brookdale because we were familiar with them and it was a smooth transition.

We took a tour of this community and saw things that we didn't like. The apartment was not as clean and not the best. The quality within the community was not there. There was not as much extra amenities too. This was not the place for my dad.

I like this community. They have great staff members who are very caring. The meals are good. They need to work on the rooms a little more on keeping the rooms clean. The activities were wonderful when they wanted to participate. I highly recommend the care and the value of this wonderful community to other families.

I like this community for the care that my mom is getting here. The staff is always nice and friendly. They help with everything that is needed for her. She likes the meals that are offered. She is not participating in the activities with the other residents. We would like to see her more active. We would recommend the care and the value of this community, for good care.
