My mom has improved physically since she has been there so much hospice has told us they can’t take mom anymore because they say she has improved so much that she doesn’t need them. I can’t say enough good things about Brookdale, the staff make this place great.

This is the best place I've found to car for my wife who has lost her memory. It is memory care only and their dedication to this task is apparent in the everyday life of my resident life. The care givers are devoted to their task. It is a tribute to the management that the people they hire stay. This gives a long term stability that is not found a many other facilities.

My mom has been really happy at Brookdale. She was in a different placement before where she spent all her time in her room and didn’t make friends. Brookdale’s neighborhood approach has led her to feel included. She has made 3 friends. She has a great relationship with the caregivers. I could not be more pleased.

My husband has been there since 2/29/24. He has received very good care there from many CNAs & nurses. The activities people, [name removed], [name removed] & [name removed], have been great with games & exercises that have kept the residents as fit as possible. They also fixed a piece of exercise equipment in the fitness room that was broken when we first arrived at Brookdale & they responded promptly to repair it. The receptionists, [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], etc have all been great & caring & very understanding to allow my husband to wave goodbye to me when I left at night. The nurses were very diligent with their most difficult duties taking care of meds for so many patients. The cleaning people have great, positive attitudes & do an excellent job of cleaning even the back side of towel rods. The heads of nursing have kept in touch very well & the executive director also checked to make sure my husband’s needs were being met. The cooks were responsive to patient dislikes.

Brookdale is a quality place for mom. They have taken good care of her. The staff is friendly and very helpful when asked. The place is overall clean but sometimes her room especially her bathroom could be better. The price is a little pricey but overall I am happy with our experience with Brookdale.

I like the "neighborhoods" of eight people that they have. Less overwhelming for people in memory care. They eat in their neighborhoods instead of having to go to a big dining room.People need to tour the places that they consider for their loved ones. Different people have different needs and what they think is important to them. I like that Brookdale has 24-hour nursing care available.

My loved one was previously a resident at Brookdale Carmel and it was a horrible experience. We moved him out of this facility. I would not recommend this facility to others.

Response from Brookdale Carmel
April 26, 2024We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality service and care. Your comments have been shared with our corporate management team for review.
We had to make a decision for our mother rather quickly. Our first attempt at a memory care facility, we very quickly learned it was not a great fit. Brookdale Carmel was recommended and we loved the layout and how welcoming the staff was when we visited. The community is set up in neighborhoods and the residents have access to the entire building so not confined to just a hallway. There are so many activities for the residents that are fitting for all levels of dementia/Alzheimers. From the very first day our mother was there she felt safe. She didn't have agitation or aggression any longer. They meet her where she is. If she wants to walk all day, they let her. They come to her and take her to activities. When we visit all know her name and hug her and make her feel loved and most importantly safe! Brookdale community was the ablsolute best decision for our mother! It's so heartwarming how they treat the residents as family!

Brookdale provides excellent care regarding Alzheimer & dementia specifically. Good transparency with staff and family on care requirement. I have shared the above with everyone.

Most of the CNA's do a great job of taking care of their residents. The biggest concern of mine is when the CNA's go on break they all go at the same time leaving residents unsupervised.

My overall experience has been great, the staff is always willing to help and answer any questions that I may have. I feel my mom is doing better at this community, last community was a bit challenging just not the right fit for her.

I moved my mother here and after only 3 weeks we decided it was not working out. We were specifically told that the assistants would be involving my mother in the scheduled activities. As it turns out they did not alert her to these activities even after I again was assured by the activities director that she would be alerted and asked to join. I personally sat in her room more that a few times where the activities were going on and no one came to get her. Moreover, on several occasions the activities were canceled. Bottom line in three weeks my mother was never brought into activities and basically all that she received was 3 meals a day for a pretty sizable monthly fee. They do the bare minimum there for a premium fee in excess of market assisted living fees. Some staff seem good but most are indifferent and un-caring. I was hopeful this would be a long term place for mom but had to move her to a better place after 3 weeks suffering a substantial penalty. NOT recommended!

Response from Brookdale Carmel
February 16, 2024We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and are sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations. Our staff is committed to providing the highest-quality service and care for each resident and we will share your concerns with our management team for review.
Communication is sometimes lost especially during a shift change. CNA's need to do all there required tasks and remember what specifics are part of a residents needs. The nurses are doing a great job. They are very good at taking care of any issues I may have. Brookdale was a good choice- glad we are here.

Our loved one has been at Brookdale Carmel for over two years and we visit daily, so are well-aquainted with the facility. Obviously determining a community for someone with dementia is a major decision. It helps everyone involved that family and friends are VERY welcomed at Brookdale. There's a true sense of community. The design of the facility, with pods and small dining/social areas, is ideal for memory care. Staff are well-trained and patient with residents, even in challenging moments. ALL staff see resident well-being as their job. Brookdale Carmel is extremely clean and well-maintained, and activities for mental stimulation are appropriate, fun, and engaging.

From the quality of qualified staff, specific to memory care needs, & the nursing care that is provided daily, Brookdale Carmel is the place to be. With the "neighborhood" concept, it has proven perfect for our family member. A maximum 8 residents per neighborhood with a CNA present, provides more personal care for your loved one. Each of these area's has their own living room / TV, as well as dining for breakfast, lunch & dinner. There is always an activity going on for those that are able or desire to participate or attend. The staff is very courteous & friendly as well. All nursing homes & health care facilities are expensive these days, but if you want the best care for your loved one, Brookdale Carmel is where you need to be.

Absolutely the best for dementia/Alzheimer's care! We picked this community, because the staff is extensively trained to deal with Alzheimer's and dementia. That and they have NEVER kicked anybody out like [removed] did to my mom.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Carmel 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
