About the facility Brookdale Bend

Located by Providence Park and Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint, Brookdale Bend offers memory care to those in Bend, Oregon, and other surrounding towns of the Deschutes County region. Here, residents can look forward to custom memory care programming, dementia-friendly meals, and engaging activities.

Brookdale Bend offers two memory care programs. Through the exclusive Clare Bridge program, residents are provided a minimum of six enriching activities each day to facilitate the use of their current skills. These activities are designed to boost social connection and may include brain-stimulating games, and group exercises such as dancing routines. The Solace program offers additional support to residents in the advanced stages of dementia by providing ample time for grooming, and sensory-based activities using music and aromatherapy.

Rest assured, this single-story community is designed with residents’ safety in mind. Staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to be alerted to an emergency. Keypad entries and an alert system are also in place to provide additional security. Plus, the community features large circular paths and secure outdoor spaces to promote easier and safer mobility. Aside from care and safety features, residents benefit from assistance with housekeeping, transportation, home maintenance, trash removal, and meal...

Brookdale is an institute you can trust for the greatest people in your life, to know they will be cared for

Our mother is really enjoying all the meals and dining service, but because of the covid restrictions the activities are limited to non existent. However, based on our experience we would absolutely recommend this community to others.

My review of Brookdale Bend

Our loved one is moving out of Brookdale we are not too pleased. They said that there would be all kinds of activities and there has not been anything. I would not recommend this community for your loved one. My loved one has had two incidents with two other residents coming in her room. One time a resident came in and punched her in the face and another time another resident came in and went into her bathroom. It did not feel secure.

It is a good place

Our families experience has been pretty good so far, sometimes our loved one does say the food is served cold and the bacon is a little to crispy. From our understanding we aren't to sure if the activities are still limited or not, but we do believe the value for cost is pretty good.

Applause for all care workers at Brookdale, Bend, Oregon

My sister is a client of yours and I can not tell you how happy it makes me to see her and she is smiling and looking happy each time I do. The Covid-19 has stopped me from seeing her the exact way I truly want to, but, I have a feeling she gets lots of hugs from you girls that take such sweet care of her. I so want to let you all know how much I appreciate you and how much I applaud you for every thing you are doing for her. So many hugs for all of you and every person I have contact with when I call or visit ! Thank you from the bottom of my heart and from my husband too.

Have a lawyer look over the contracts!!

Our first appointment to meet with the staff at Brookdale in Redmond and tour the facility was confirmed by email. Yet upon our arrival at the appointed time, there was no one in the front entrance area—no one at the desk, no one in the office behind the front desk and no one in the lobby. We waited a bit more than 10 minutes before encountering any staff at all. This staff member was polite and said she would find the appropriate person for our meeting and off she went. We waited another 15 minutes without seeing anyone, before deciding we’d wasted enough time that morning and returned to work. In spite of our bad first experience, we decided to take a look at Brookdale in Bend. The facility and program looked wonderful, the staff seemed engaging and enthusiastic. We decided it would be the best choice of a new home for my father-in-law. Here is the warning: Do not sign any papers, do not write any checks, do not commit to anything on paper without a lawyer looking over the contracts!! Unfortunately, we took the word of the staff members we were working with as to what the contracts and all the papers were that we were signing. What a mistake! My father-in-law was suddenly hospitalized almost 1 week before he was to move into Brookdale Bend—we advised the facility that his condition was terminal and that he would not be moving as the doctor didn’t expect him to live beyond that day. He passed away. He never set foot in Brookdale Bend and none of his belongings were ever brought there and they facility had almost 1 week notice that he would not be moving in. I was told our “move-in” fee of $1500 would be refunded. That didn’t happen because the facility charged us for 1 week of basic service—and they didn’t even charge it at the agreed upon amount as set forth in their own contract. I was appalled that we had to pay anything under the circumstances but Brookdale is about the money. They re-rented the room and still got a week of fees out of us—though they provided no food, no care and no service to my father-in-law. Please beware—make sure you thoroughly understand all the papers that need to be signed and don’t take the staff at Brookdale’s word for what the papers mean!

An intimate caring facility

Our sister had early onset Alzheimer's and eventually needed complete memory support for 2.5 years until her death this summer. This is a horrific disease and it is difficult to find care one has confidence in. Bend Brookdale is a small and careful community. The support we received from the staff, particularly the activities director, [name removed] was heartfelt and phenomenal. we could vent our concerns and share our joys. [Name removed], the Executive Director was approachable. She really stayed on top of and improved the facility. Our family felt cared for as well. In addition, with the support of the hospice nurses the last weeks of our sister's life were tenderly cared for in this lovely facility. We found most everyone went the second mile to care for our sister and other patients. This is not easy work or predictable. Staff were kind and engaged. We are thankful we found Brookdale and are indebted to the nursing support staff particularly activities director [names removed].

A good community with care

I toured this community and was happy with the staff who were able to answer my questions. The food seemed to be very good. I did find a community closer and would recommend other families to see for them selves everything that is offered for a loved one.

Brookdale of Bend

My mother moved to Brookdale of Bend recently. We find it a warm and caring place. I feel my mother is safe and well taken care of. There are issues with staffing, as with all care facilities in Oregon, due to drug testing and a weakened drug law. Although the staff wear many hats throughout their shifts all seem well trained and willing to help (and when necessary spend extra time) with all the residents.

Peace of Mind

I was greeted so warmly - I almost forgot how nervous I was to look at memory places. The staff is happy and the people who live there were singing and laughing when I walked in. It felt warm and bright and happy . I met a lot of the staff and they were not rushed with me, but gave me all the time I needed to get my questions answered. It can be a stressful time to care for a loved on and frightening to have to look for places. I instantly felt relief and comfort. I know safety and companionship were important to me. I am very pleased with Brookdale . I feel like I belong when I come to visit.

Needs Professional Help

With all the anguish and exhaustion you are experiencing by the time you arrive at Brookdale, you think .... this is it! But after overlooking several red flags, we look back and wish we would have chosen another facility. First, the $2,000 non-refundable deposit to hold room for 1 wk! Second, the set up, you must use their pharmacy...if you have Tri-Care it is a nightmare. Next, caregivers are not CNA trained, only HS grads required. Then the billing is never clear to your understanding. My step-mother fell from wheelchair twice and was given too much medication she shouldn't have been given in my opinion, This facility lacks professionalism! Brookdale projects all the first rate advertisement and enticements, but comes up short with any real knowledge of alzhemiers diease to help understand their residents..

Fraudulent Pricing

They quoted me a price of $5800 per month for my father's care, after their nurse had evaluated him. Three days after i had moved him in they upped the price to $7100 per month. They say that he is asking for help toileting too frequently. Since that time he no longer needs help and can walk on a walker himself and I am anxiously waiting to see if they are going to reassess him and reduce the price. I feel their accounting methods and communication about how they arrive at their pricing is highly questionable.

I don't think they did anything well

I don't think they did anything well. I'm not happy with them at all. I had to move my Dad out of there. They do not have enough qualified people working there. They said they could not handle his behavior, but his behavior was due to Alzheimer's Disease.

this one was designed so cute in the front parlor, but really didn't see residents in this area. they were all behind doors that were locked at the time we were there. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. but at this stage a little too locked down for our needs. The rooms were just that rooms not apartment at all so they are completely dependent on the facility for everything, everyday and for some thats what they need, in our case its not that way.

So far, so good

A lovely, homey, bright environment that my Dad says he really likes. Everyone seems well attended-to and kept fairly active with daily activities and even outings. Registration was a breeze as Clare Bridge of Bend staff are very accommodating and thoughtful. The staff keeps us up to date on my Dad's meals, sleep and activities. It's only been about two weeks, but, so far, so good!

Memory Care

This was one of two memory care facilities we visited. It's not my favorite place but I also know people who have their folks there. I think memory care is a very difficult thing to face. It's taxing and it's sad to think that my mother may need it.

Good place, but not for everyone

The staff is very caring and deals with a wide variety of patients. A difficult task at best. They are kind and upbeat and the patients are clean and treated kindly. Peoples' belongings are not always in their possession, but doing laundry for so many is quite a task. The financial dealings between the parent company and local one are not clear, as they do not seem to be on the same page. I am still trying to get it straightened out. After almost 2 weeks, I realized that it was not a good match, for my husband so I brought him home.
