Beverwyck offers a wealth of activities and interactions with people, even more than I imagined before moving here. No disappointments! It has been easy to meet people and make friends (I knew no one here). The common areas are attractive and comfortable, and have come to feel like home - an extension of my apartment, which I love. The staff are friendly and on the ball, the grounds are beautiful, and every day there is plenty to smile about. During the pandemic, it was very comforting to see other people, safely masked, and then we were quickly vaccinated when that became available. We were in this together, and it was so much better than being isolated in my former home. Great care was taken to keep us safe, healthy, and informed, and frequent little treats brightened everyone's spirits. I am very glad I decided to move to Beverwyck.

When I began my search for independent senior living in 2010, I was a widow looking for safety, security, and socialization. I had already experienced two orthopedic surgeries (knee replacement and ankle reconstruction). I lived in a raised ranch. My neighbors had helped thru those weeks of rehabilitation, but I knew that I could no longer live in a situation with stairs. Also, it was very lonely, living alone; especially in the winter months. Add to that all the concerns of repairs, yard work, snow removal and such. I'm a very outgoing person, and I enjoy meeting people. I am also interested in everything under the sun! So I knew that I needed intellectual and social stimulation. I had visited a friend who lived Beverwyck, and I thought that it seemed like a very nice place to live. I checked out a few other places in the capital district: Hawthorne Ridge, Avila, Shaker Point but decided on Beverwyck. I have been very happy here!

This past Spring, in an annual survey Beverwyck conducts of its residents, we were asked what was most important to us in our experience here. My answer, built on months that have fast become four years, came quickly: “Maintaining my independence while, at the same time, enjoying the comforts and satisfaction that come from a sense of belonging!” Indeed, living independently in a community environment has given me the best of both worlds. I’m able to live my life as I wish and, with Beverwyck as my anchor, take comfort in knowing I can do so safely and securely. That’s a big deal at this stage in my life! Home to a diversity of peoples with an array of talents, abilities, interests and backgrounds, Beverwyck offers an unparalleled independent living experience. A wide range of services and activities is available. For all its offerings, I believe the defining hallmarks of the Beverwyck experience are its staff and its residents - they are the best, every one of them, everyday!

We moved into Beverwyck in January 2021 after living in the Capital District for more than 40 years. We decided we no longer wanted to maintain a big house and yard. As we looked at our options, we decided this would be our best choice. We have not regretted this decision. We have greatly enjoyed the activities, dining options, beautiful grounds, and friendly residents and staff.

As a resident of Beverwyck for the last seven years , my over all experience has been a most satisfactory one. Having decided that my home and garden was too much for me to care for, the decision to move here was an easy one because many people I knew already lived here. The staff at Beverwyck could not be kinder or more helpful. I appreciate that when there is a problem they are ready to help me solve it. I enjoy all of the activities here such as water aerobics and exercise class. I have friends who love to play bridge and I have taken on the responsibility of organizing a Saturday bridge group , I’ve made many new friends and renewed many friendships.. Dinner in the dining room has been a place to meet people. I really love my apartment. When I moved here they dug a garden for me and I brought many plants from home with me. Since gardening was a big part of my life before my move it is great that I did not have to forgo that pleasure.

Beverwyck is my home........warm and welcoming. New friends as well as long time friends keep life interesting and lively. Staff are cheerful, accommodating and talented. They work hard and are appreciated. Lots of fitness programs keep us moving and having fun. From water aerobics to hiking, to shuffle board and bridge there's lots to choose from. And if you prefer quiet times we have a good library. It's lovely to have delicious meals prepared and served----- no cleanup required. And yes, music programs as well as transportation to medical appointments are offered. Both physical therapy and occupational therapy are excellent and available on site. You'll find yourself comfortable and happy here. Loo

One of my motivations to consider Beverwyck was the fact that I already new so many people here who were extremely satisfiied with their decision to move in. Once here I began to experience all that Beverwyck has to offer, including the wellness program which keeps me physically fir, day trips on the bus to various venues, classical music programs and local entertainment. I am very glad I made the move.

Beverwyck has lived up to our expectations based on investigating a dozen alternatives. Our residency here for the last 15 months confirmed the friendly atmosphere & geniality we desired. Structured activities were manifest, professionally led with numerous other opportunities led by residents, among them some of our new friends. The staff anticipates the needs of a varied demographic with responsiveness & a profound ability to listen. Resident input to all phases of life at Beverwyck is evident. Care services, due to the ties to a major medical facility are what are expected, outstanding in content, accessible, & subtly in the background until needed. Of note is the cuisine, researched for health benefits, professionally selected & prepared & well served. The wait staff is younger which brings a vibrancy to mealtime. We can’t say enough about the attitude & perspective of the staff, of their ability to bring young & experienced minds & and bodies together into a cohesive population.

My husband and I have been living at Beverwyck for six years, 11 months in a small apartment and after in a large Cottage. We are very happy in our home and gardens and have particularly appreciated meeting many fascinating and enjoyable people with whom we have interesting conversations and have developed warm friendships with some. We enjoy the food and the opportunity to join others for lunch and dinner.I have been active in exercise programs, poetry group, and we have both served on the Scholarship Committee. The staff are very friendly and supportive. Beverwyck is continually beautified with seasonal flowers and lovely trees and shrubs, and we are happy to be in such a lovely and large area, which allows for pleasant walking on the grounds. In addition, we are near a lovely small shopping center and wonderful places for hikes and paddling. All in all, Beverwyck is a special place for us and others, being not only safe but providing ways to keep ourselves healthy and active.

I moved to Beverwyck about 6 weeks into the pandemic shut down, a very difficult time to be moving from one state to another. Despite the quarantine restrictions, the management here has made an outstanding effort to provide appropriate activities and amenities to lift our spirits, such as passing out ice cream on hot summer days. The staff is always friendly, pleasant and supportive. The accommodations are outstanding.

I have been here for 6 months from my first interview to see the apartment. I knew all the staff previously cared about each end every resident there body language says it all. From the person at the very top to the ones at the bottom all go way above and beyond what would be expected to keep us happy. They have high work ethics. The place is spotless and you never see any staff sitting.

Beverwyck is a superb, friendly living community for older adults. The staff are excellent, always helpful, and the residents are all interesting people, many with ongoing community work and activities. Beverwyck provides its own broad array of activities, including exercise classes, speakers, outside interactivity, and transportation to community events. I am very happy here.

My experiences with Beverwyck began with the Marketing staff, who were very accomodating and helpful to me as I made the transition from being a homeowner. They assisted me with getting movers, answered many questions by phone and allowed me several visits and went over all my options (meals, unit sizes & configuations, move in dates etc.) . Then COVID hit! This organization, from top to bottom, has done an outstanding job in managing the crisis. They handled all the State mandated restrictions in a commendable fashion, keeping all their residents informed and provided for. The buildings and grounds are always neat and clean. The food preparation, and service, have been truly OUTSTANDING!

Beverwyck has turned out to be everything I hoped for in an independent living experience - except that I moved in the day that NY had to shut down due to the Covid 19 virus! That meant that outings, communal dining, and other group activities had to be eliminated or sharply curtailed. However, I knew what was normally offered and that was a major factor in choosing Beverwyck, so I am sure that those activities will resume when it is safe. What I did get is good meals delivered to my door, no extra charge; and cheerful, thorough attention from staff at all levels, so I quickly became oriented and comfortable. Management responded to the medical emergency quickly and appropriately, communicating to residents every step of the way. The excellent and varied exercise programs have continued and I am now more fit than when I got here. Fellow residents are cordial, and dining together now is a pleasure. The campus is beautiful and conveniently located. The staff is top-notch and friendly, good-humored about expanding their job descriptions as necessary during Covid! I hope to enjoy many years here at Beverwyck.

Living independently and being able to maintain my privacy in a community environment gives me the best of both worlds. I can live my life here as I want to. Choices abound. For all of its offerings, I think the defining hallmarks of the Beverwyck experience are its staff and its residents—they are the best, each of them, everyday!

A Place for Mom has scored Beverwyck 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
