Avamere at Chestnut Lane is the first assisted living community for adults on the West Coast who are deaf and deafblind. Since 2003, this homelike community has been located in Gresham, Oregon.
Every staff member knows and communicates with everyone through American Sign Language. These round-the-clock caregivers and an on-call nurse provide personalized care for deaf or deafblind residents. Personalized care can include a variety of services like regular health check-ins, medication management, and assistance with activities of daily living. Additionally, residents have access to on-site wellness therapists who offer physical, speech, and occupational therapy.
The 70-room community offers different studio and one-bedroom living accommodations filled with natural light. These apartments have safety features like emergency call systems, grab bars, and accessible showers. Convenient services, like housekeeping, helps seniors upkeep their apartment while living a carefree lifestyle.
While residing at Avamere at Chestnut Lane, residents have access to various amenities and activities. The community has a monthly activity calendar filled with daily events. Common pastimes may include arts and crafts, religious services, fitness classes, men’s club meetings, community outings, and more. If you are independent, come to this place but if you require a lot of assistance- this place isn’t for you. Workers WILL ignore you for period of time even if it’s emergency. Foods are decent, living space is decent.

I really hope that it could be possible that they made a specific area for smoking. At any entrance family and loved ones always have to pass by so much smoke and it's making my loved one sick. At the beginning of my loved ones stay no one greeted us or even gave us a welcome packet that explained rules, meal times, and other information we would have like to have received. The carpets are stained and need a good cleaning and in some floors like the 3rd floor by the elevator it always smell like urine. The staff is friendly and the meals are good that is the positive side to the community.
