My husband and I were looking for an independent living facility for my aunt and uncle and toured many facilities in the Portland area. My aunt and uncle were reluctant to leave their home, but once they toured this place and met the staff, they didn’t want to see another option. This was the only place they toured! Luckily, the perfect floor plan apartment was coming available and there would be no wait. They are happy, settling in and are more social than they have been in years, while still having their own place. They have a car and able to drive, so they haven’t taken advantage of all the services available, but as a family member, I am grateful to know that the services are there when needed. The Ashton staff also supports an “aging in place” philosophy, which is great!... Read more

I would definitely recommend this facility! The staff are so kind and engaging! Housekeeping and maintenance keep right on top of things! Housekeeping provides sheets and towels and they are changed each week. My father required some assistance with showering, laundry and medication and they were able to assist us in hiring someone to come in and help him. My family feels very relaxed knowing that he is safe and that all his of needs are being met!

When it comes to the activities there could be more variety but I'm not really sure if there is the interest for more. My folks living there are loving it and that makes us very happy!! We would recommend this community to other families based on the experience we have had so far. The staff is really outstanding, they make a point to get to know my folks and our family and make everyone feel welcomed.

It gave us great pleasure to express our gratitude to the Ashton Gardens Gracious Retirement Living staff. Given everything the staff had done to take care of him and his wife, we know that my Uncle would have wanted to do something special. After he passed away, everyone was so kind in helping my aunt move into a closer retirement community, [removed],

September 15, 2022Thanks so much for your recommendation!
The age of the population in the community is higher than I was anticipating. I would encourage others to wait to come to the community. Half of the service staff in the dining room are rude to work with if the residents have questions along the way. The managers and assistant managers are nice to work with. There are three meals a day served in the dining room; however, if the resident is ill the community will send a meal to the resident's room.

Ashton Gardens is understaffed, but seems like a quality place. I think they could improve on their communication with the families/caregivers. they tend to only communicate changes to residents, but sometimes those things aren't always relayed to the family. Because of that, there is some poor communication with people outside of the community.

Ashton Gardens is a clean community, every time we come to visit everything looks really nice. She seems to really be liking it so far. The staff have been very nice, the gal who initially gave us the tour [name removed] was fantastic and the kitchen staff has been great. She always talks about the different exercise classes and how they bring in live entertainment.

3 meals a day—and excellent at that. Well maintained building, friendly and useful staff. Personal small apartment with kitchenette and a balcony, laundry facilities (or laundry service at extra cost), parking if needed. What could be better for a retiree?!

Response from Ashton Gardens Gracious Retirement Living
January 3, 2022Thank you for the 5-star review and kind words about Ashton Gardens, Katherine! We are so pleased to hear that we met your expectations.
The community is very clean and it is a really nice building. The staff are friendly but they are understaffed and have been going through a lot of changes in management lately. The location is perfect for me, it is only a few miles from my former home which our family still owns. The means and dining service however is horrible because of the staffing. The meals themselves are fine, but the dining service is the issue. It takes about an hour and a half or two hours to be served. The bus driver is wonderful, but the bus does not have a lift for wheelchairs, so if you aren't able to walk you are kind of screwed, but the bus driving is very helpful with any assistance. The activities director is also wonderful.

They provide great resources for independent care. The staff is friendly. They have a reasonable amount of appropriate activities for the residents. My loved one is enjoying the food with the quality and taste. The community does special events around the food.

I would say to make sure that they are independent. There are a couple of people that made it a horrible experience for my parents. One of the managers there wasn't good at all. The food was pretty good. We would visit my parents on Sunday and the noon mealtime was really good. The entire family enjoyed the lunch time meals and rolls. The dinner meals weren't as good as the noon time meal. My parents were told they had to leave on [date removed]. Most of the people at this community are great.

We chose this community because it was new and it is more of a rural setting, more nature oriented. I really gravitated when I met with [name removed], I got the confidence that they ran their facility in a more organized fashion. My mom is in a studio and I have stayed in many of the other rooms and this was the best option for my mom. She has a very nice patio in the back. They do offer a lot of variety on the rooms here. The food needs some improvement. They have a standardized menu, the portions sizes are good, but they do not have a lot of variation on the choices for meals. When I was looking at other facilities, for the services provided here it is a great value. My mom is very active and the exercises they offer seems less than what she needs. It would be nice if they had gym fitness training or more challenging exercises for the residents rather than yoga. It would be nice if they take a poll of what people want to see what activities to provide. I would absolutely recommend Ashton Gardens to a friend or family member. The management is outstanding. The staff members are also phenomenal, they all go out of their way for their residents.
