I've had a few people ask me just that! I tell them it's a great place! My MIL loves it there! They are very friendly, very attentive, and helpful with anything we need. There's so much to do every day- they'll never be bored. It's a bright, clean, homey facility.

Staff are very caring and the food the prepare for the residents is excellent. Our loved one loves the food. The activities coordinator goes above and beyond. We would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

Day staff was terrific but occasional issues with Night staff. Overall superior experience. Staff went out of their way to accommodate and support. The facility is bright, cheery, clean and comfortable. My family member loved the meals and several of the activities.

The staff are lazy, unkept and smell of weed. They hire anybody and clearly have a high turnover rate. The food is gross. For how much we pay we sure don’t get much. I can’t believe this place is still open .

The facility is small and personal. The building is a square with a big courtyard in the center. There are only 39 residents. It is also cheaper than most that we looked into.

It’s a perfect place for my mom. It’s small, clean, staff is nice, the place itself is nice. The only issue we’ve had is w her meds. It’s been hard to navigate this. We were not given a protocol for this or directions on paper. I had to ask how it was done so took awhile after she moved in to get this all right. We are using the pharmacy the place uses and she pays a fee. The doctor wanted to send over a list of her prescriptions to Allegheny place as instructed after he sent the list to the pharmacy. Allegheny place said they could only take fax not emails. That’s not the most up to date way to receive things anymore. So I had to go back and forth w them bc they don’t use email. Also, we filled out the food preference sheet when she moved in and she can’t stand eggs and noted this and they still only bring her eggs. Lol! All ok bc they make her a peanut and jelly sandwich instead. But would be great if pancakes or other things could be offered. No one paid attention to her paper.

Staff is good however there are no activities for the residents. They originally told us that they have many activities. My mom has been there almost two weeks and there is yet to be any activities. She is not used to sitting in her room all day.

The reason we gave the value for cost a 3 out of 5 is because the rent is reasonable, but he pays an extra [name removed] a month for care. We don't know when or if they will raise the amount for his level of care. It's really clean. It doesn't have that nursing home smell. It's also bright and feels more like an apartment.

There's different levels of care. Make sure that your family member's level of care doesn't exceed their ability to provide it, that the needs fit their service level. They did have some staffing issues, but the staff were all very nice and competent. The food I tried was good quality and presented well. It didn't seem thrown together quickly - it looked like it took an appropriate level of skill from the people who prepared it. They also had a big calendar of activities. I would recommend the community to other families.

The first year, 2019, that my mother was at Allegheny Place I was very pleased. Now, 2 1/2 years later I am very unhappy and frustrated. During this time there have been 5 executive directors. No one stays long enough to make improvements. More caring and competent workers are needed. I am fortunate that I am able to visit my mother each day. It’s when I’m not there that I worry about her care, her need for oxygen and leg wraps for circulatory issues. For the past month or longer, there has not been a housekeeper. I clean my mother’s room. The care is lacking but the cost continues to increase. Because of my mother’s dementia, I hesitate to move her to another facility which may cause her to be more confused. At this time I would not recommend Allegheny Place.

I was very impressed with the tour. everything looked very clean, the apartment looked very roomy. It is a smaller facility , which I liked, and seemed very well staffed. It was a little more expensive than some of the other facilities.

They sold me on it being a sliding scale of care, and that no matter what, they'd be able to take care of our loved one for a while. I was upfront about a history of dementia, with no history of wandering. Our loved one did somehow manage to wander out of the building, and they told me they had to transfer them to a locked facility. So we lost most of our non-refundable deposit upon move-in. They only transferred some of our loved one's belongings, and have not been available to talk to me about it since then, to the point that I've given up. I'm very upset with them. They were not upfront about the care they could provide , and did the opposite of what they sold to me. They failed miserably and kicked my loved one out.

There always seems to be something going on at this community. They keep the community well taken care of. The staff are attentive, personable and responsive. They greeted mom with open arms and made the transition into the community a good experience. The food is ok. When we first visited they made us feel they wanted mom there. They followed up with us and I would recommend this community.

This is a clean, well-maintained facility. The staff are courteous and caring. The rooms are nice and the facility is adequately equipped. However, beware of the prices that are initially quoted. There are two costs involved: the first is for basic occupancy and the second is a personal care cost. They have a sliding level of care scale for their personal care costs. It goes from 0 to 60 in increments of 10 (0, 10, 20 ...). This implied that the highest personal care costs were at a level which would not exceed the level of 60. Based on the highest level of personal care cost that were disclosed to us, we believed that Allegheny Place would fit into our budget. An evaluation of the resident is performed to determine the actual level of care required. You can imagine our surprise and disappointment when our personal care costs EXCEEDED the highest level of 60. They were going to charge us a total cost comparable to a Skilled Nursing Facility which is much more expensive than an assisted living facility. Needless to say, we did not choose Allegheny Place because of this.

A Place for Mom has scored Allegheny Place 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
