Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supporting a resident’s personal and social needs, guidance, assisting a resident to keep appointments, and medication management. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication supervision and administration, reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, and proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include three daily meals and snacks must be provided, Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council, and communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional.
