The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes regulates this type of community. Staff are required to obtain training in a variety of fields. These areas include identification of conduct constituting abuse and neglect, attendance policies, Residents’ rights, and emergency preparedness. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment to determine the residents cognitive and behavioral impairments, care plan must be updated at least annually and when there is a change in the resident’s needs, whether family supports are available, and assessment to determine the resident’s physical care needs. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assisting with an Epi pen, applying topical medications, and placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include the provision of assisted self-preservation, assisted living care, administration of medications by a certified medication aide, and described as personal services. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents.
