The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the label, opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication, and placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with self-administration of medications, nursing services, personal care services, and assistance with activities of daily living . Staff are required to receive training in a variety of areas. These areas include universal precautions, resident abuse, neglect, and and exploitation, 12 hours of continuing education every 2 years on topics related to assisted living, and resident behavior and needs. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , medical examination report, communities must document such assessment, and community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community .
