Truewood by Merrill, New Bern

My parents have mentioned that breakfast is always cold but that for the most part food is satisfactory. They could use a few more activities for more mobile residents,. The cost is much lower than up north. Overall a good, safe community with a wonderful staff. They know all the residents by name. There is room for some improvement, possibly more activities, I know the residents enjoyed playing corn hole.

Complete guide to independent living

Newport, North Carolina

Independent Living

Independent Living Communities provide individuals with a handy equilibrium between an opportunity to live an independent lifestyle and not having to concern themselves with chores. Frequent needs such as the scheduling of social activities and meal planning are taken care of, which provides seniors more opportunities to live active lives as they see fit. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to live among peers, in a community with others of similar ages and backgrounds. Typically comprised of a private living area and a full kitchen, these communities offer residences with many of the amenities of apartment life but without the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and more time can be spent with them with the basic maintenance of daily tasks out of the way. While policies differ between locations, numerous residences allow cats and dogs as well. If medical or nursing support is desired, residents may always utilize the services of independent caregivers. There are a variety of expenses and benefits to balance when selecting an independent living community. It is important to learn if these amenities are covered in your plan: meals, utilities, wellness program, parking, cable TV, transportation, initial assessment fee, and laundry. The benefits associated with independent living include golf course, game/TV room, fitness center & swimming pool, private rental hall, concierge services, laundry service, community activities, and beauty salon & barber shop.
