This community for my mother's care is very good. I like knowing that she is happy here. The community is always clean and the atmosphere is helpful for her. We like the menu of the meals. The staff helps her participate in the many activities. We would recommend the care and the value of this community for other families.

Mountain Valley Manor in Kingston, NY

The owners aren't very friendly. I believe they are short staffed. I asked how much it would cost for more assistance for my loved one due to a medical condition. There are times where my loved one will have bed sores due to wet conditions. The community didn't even do a virtual visit for a doctor during COVID with the multiple medical conditions my loved one had. It is a good place, clean, and the community is nice. It is easy for my loved one to get along with her walker. The head nurse is controlling and doesn't delegate because she doesn't think anyone will do the job correctly. There is a lack of communication about things that have happened. They are starting to allow visits in the courtyard, but I didn't find out about this until a friend told me about it. My friend found about it on Facebook. My mother hasn't seen the hairdresser since February. The community still doesn't have their hairdresser back. I've made the decision to bring my mother home. The community did ask if there was anything they could do to help my mother when they found out she was leaving.

Independent Living

If you or your loved one desire the convenience of having housekeeping and chores taken care of while living life at your own pace, consider an Independent Living Community. Food preparation, recreational activities and housekeeping responsibilities are taken care of while you are free to use your time as you prefer. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy an opportunity to live among peers, surrounded by others of similar age groups and interests. Residents’ quarters consist of private living spaces, each with their own kitchen. The independence of apartment life is still enjoyed, offering opportunities to socialize with guests and visitors in a private and personal setting. While policies vary between communities, numerous residences allow cats and dogs as well. If medical or nursing care is desired, residents may always enlist the services of private caregivers. There are a variety of costs and benefits to consider when selecting an independent living community. It is important to learn if these amenities are included in the care plan: utilities, initial assessment fee, move-in fee, field trips, transportation, meals, laundry, and housekeeping. The conveniences associated with independent living include healthcare center, fitness center & swimming pool, restaurant-style dining hall, private rental hall, community activities, transportation, beauty salon & barber shop, and security guards.
