It's very clean, and it doesn't smell like a typical nursing home. They have a sunroom with couches - a nice sitting area with lots of windows where the residents watch for birds. There's also a back patio where you can sit, railed in, when it's warmer outside. They have church services, puzzles and things, all kinds of magazines, a community TV. The residents can walk up and down the corridors there and get exercise. At Christmastime, they gave the residents a big gift bag with a blanket in it, and my loved one a shawl, some snowmen socks, and some candy. At Halloween, they could go around and pick out their candies, kind of like Trick or Treating. They do lots of different things with the residents. Once a week they show a movie where families can come too. It's just nice there. And I thin it's a excellent value. I also like that I can come and pick up my loved one anytime for an outing, or even have her stay with me overnight, which is more laid back than what a nursing home would be.

My dad loves living here. The staff has been wonderful, anything you ask them to do they are more than willing to do. My sister and I went to eat with him and the food was amazing. I do think they should do activities with the residents. I would absolutely recommend Harbor to others looking.

East Tawas, Michigan

Independent Living

For seniors who desire to live primarily without assistance but would like the assistance of having their household chores maintained by professionalls, an Independent Living Community could be the perfect choice. You or your loved one can live their lives as they wish while their food is cooked by a professionall chef, housekeeping and laundry duties are taken care of by staff, and recreational activities are scheduled and organized. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to live among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and interests. Typically consisting of a private living area and a full kitchen, these communities offer residences with many of the amenities of apartment life but with none of the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and there will be more time to spend with them with the basic maintenance of daily chores out of the way. While policies vary between communities, many residences allow pets as well. Nursing and health care services may always be arranged for with private care providers as desired. There are a variety of advantages and costs to consider while deciding on an independent living community. It is important to learn if these amenities are included in your service plan: laundry, transportation, field trips, meals, move-in fee, internet access, Waiting list deposit, and housekeeping. The benefits associated with independent living include concierge services, community activities, fitness center & swimming pool, laundry service, restaurant-style dining hall, transportation, game/TV room, and security guards.
