Our family had an in person tour with Wisteria Place and the facility from what we saw did not appear to be clean or well kept.
Response from Wisteria Place
September 22, 2023I am very sorry to hear of your experience with us at Wisteria Place Assisted Living and Memory Care. We strive very hard to keep Wisteria clean and in good shape and this is the first I have heard of it being unclean or not well kept. I would love to have more specifics of exactly what you encountered on your tour as that is the only way we can improve. There are multiple campuses within the Wisteria family so again more detailed information would be welcomed.
I cannot rate the meals and dining because it did not meet my schedule, and when it comes to the activities I cannot comment on that also because I have not been informed of the activities they have going on. I am in independent living status, and the cottages that I live in are very nice. Based on the experience I have had so far with Wisteria Place, I would recommend the community to other families.

The staff is good. My loved one seems to eat the food. Some of the activites is fine but loved one does not really join. It's nice sized room with a spacious closet. We picked this community because it was all inclusive, and they have transportation that takes my loved one to their doctors apointments.

We had a problematic experience at a different facility before switching to Wisteria Place. The comparison between the two was like night and day. Wisteria Place's facility was not quite as nice, but the level of care was amazing, especially during our loved one's last weeks there before she passed away. We couldn't have had a better experience. The staff is just amazing. They go above and beyond. They were great communicators with our family. And they really do have the best interest and needs of their residents in mind. They also have a physician that would come directly to the facility, which made things so much easier.

The assisted living side is really good. The staff is super friendly and kind They're well trained, and I always felt like my dad was well cared for. They were in the process of updating a lot of things in the facility, and once that's done it's going to be very nice. The food could use improvement though. We also had experience with their affiliated nursing/rehab facility in a separate building, which I would not recommend.

This has been an excellent experience for us so far. The staff seem to really care about what they are doing, and taking care of the residents. The staff are extremely helpful in answering questions or addressing our concerns. The food is really enjoyed by my loved one. The room, housekeeping, changing of linens, and all three meals are included in the monthly rate. Transfers, feeding assistance, bathing assistance and medication management are some care types provided by the community for my loved one.

There are two memory care communities in Abilene and we chose this community based on the location of the nurses station. Here it is located in the center so the nurses are able to see everything that is going on. We have had no issue with the meals and dining service so far. Their activities director recently left so the activities declined a bit, but they have a new activities director and we are confident the activities are going to get back to where they used to be

If you put your relatives here, they need to be able to completely function on their own. They tested my loved one and said she would do great here. And she just ended up needing way too much help. So it wasn't a good fit for her. Another family member and I ended up going up there several days a week to care for her, and then we brought in hospice. She wasn't getting bathed, and she wasn't eating. They would come and set her tray down and then pick it up when she didn't eat. If they didn't set it near her, she couldn't eat. Looking back, she should have been in a nursing home instead of here. The people are nice. It was clean. It just wasn't a good fit for our loved one.
It is an expensive, the value is priced high. When we were there the last time they did had arts and crafts for the residents. It is a smaller community, and our loved one has her room which is nice. Our loved one says she likes the food they serve. We would recommend this community to a family or friend.

Can’t review cleanliness etc since we could not enter (Covid). I have told two people looking for a place for their loved one to look elsewhere. Mine died from severe dehydration. I have to assume he got zero assistance in holding a cup etc. The staff is super nice which makes it hard to be brutally honest.

A Place for Mom has scored Wisteria Place 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
