Our loved one is quite happy there, he says a cleaning lady comes once a week and his apartment is kept clean all the time. The staff is friendly and have been really patient and helpful with our family. Sometimes our loved one says the people complain they don''t have enough portions, but then again our loved one never complains that he is hungry. We do also really like the location of the community, there is quite a bit to do in the area. We don't think there are many activities at the moment, but for a couple of weeks they did bring in a gentlemen in for entertainment. We also the value for cost is right on par to other community, and there is a nurse all the time if our loved one every needs assistance.... Read more

very friendly, helpful administration. there is choice in unit size and amenities which is a plus. Very reasonable pricing. Negatives for us were: no walk in showers; small bathrooms;no individual call buttons; that there is only one elevator and it is small. We felt the corridors that joined the floors to the elevator were narrow and dangerous with an open stairway to be passed in order to get to the elevator. The common or family room was on the main level and dinning on the fourth, so elevator travel would be necessary often; the common room was uninviting. The dinning room was cheery and bright. This is where most activities take place.

Although my mother was there a short period of time her stay there was okay. The building is an older building that needs to be updated especially around the door areas. There are no push buttons to open the doors automatically and also there is no safety barriers in place by the stairs. A person could fall down the stairs very easily. The staff were excellent and very friendly all the time.

Many of the rooms are in pods where there are two or more bedrooms sharing one standard 4 piece bathroom and a very modest dark kitchenette. The rooms are small and with minimal storage however some do have a nice sunny view. The doorways and hallways are rather narrow for a seniors residence and not really suitable for someone requiring a wheelchair. I understand this building was originally an apartment building. The driveway has a fairly severe downward slope with a covered overhang and ramp at the entrance. Theres a patio area near the entrance and I believe this was the only outdoor space I noted for the residents. It does overlook a green space which would be nice in good weather to view but I do not believe it is accessible as its a ravine. The manager and nurse admin. we met were very kind and professional. We toured the communal space dining hall and a few of the rooms. They were all small and modest. There was laminate flooring in most areas aside from the stairways which was carpeted. Some of the rooms did have some unpleasant odours. I noted some of the toilet inserts were urine stained. Im not sure if these were owned by Waterdown Manor or the residents. Overall the building looks better on the outside than the inside. It shows its age and the respite furnishings communal spaces and dining hall were all very dated. Although furnishings do not speak to the love and care provided to residents it may be a barrier for some if they are used to a more up-to-date or spacious environment. We did not attend during a meal or activity so I could not speak to the staff interaction or resident demographic or the food unfortunately. They do provide transitional care and have extra staff for those patients however I did note the layout meant that the staff were behind closed doors and one of the residents was found wondering independently on two occasions during our tour. The staff nurse providing the tour did find another staff member to assist the gentleman at least on the first occasion. There was one respite room that was being used that smelled very strongly of urine.
