We were looking for a place for our father. We call a place for mom and they helped us find the perfect place at the price we could afford and I couldn’t be more happier. He really liked it too so that made it even easier with the transition.

From my understanding they are experiencing turnover in management and a new corporate owner. This makes the residents un sure of what's going on. I personally think for the price of a room the company needs to step up the quality of food being served. They recently raised rent by $270 and yet the food quality continues to go down hill. Worse than a soup kitchen.

Some of the workmanship here is sloppy in the apps, and the food service is poor, not the service but the quality and taste is sub par. I would not recommend it, except that it is about the least expensive.

I would rate all 5 with the exception of the food. She complains all the time. I ate there one evening and I would say it is worse than hospital cafeteria food. Not impressed. For $[removed] minimum per month, the food should be restaurant quality. Staff is nice and they are remodeling/ updating the facility from the 1970 era. It is already looking much better.

I toured this community. It smelled of sickly sweet air freshener. The elevator was a factor. The price was good. The place needs updating.

Keep in mind this is independent living. I don't think we understood quite how independent it would be. You can't just call them up and say "Hey, will you do this, or do that?" It's more independent than we were expecting it to be. It was fairly clean, not the best but not the worst. They've been very friendly and helpful. Our loved one's needs ended up being a little higher than what they were willing to do. They weren't very knowledgeable or helpful in how to create better circumstances for her. So we were on our own finding a solution. We ended up hiring someone to come in and check on her every day. Management was more helpful, but not always available as issues often arise after hours. Our loved one had a couple of falls, and no one seems to know how or why her mattress came up missing. It was during Covid, but I don't know how you lose a mattress. That one baffles me. They were bringing meals to the room due to Covid. I'd say they did their best. My loved one rarely left her room, so I don't know what was going on activities-wise. I think it was a nice facility for what we paid.

I would tell others that it is a happy and clean community. The food is awful for my loved one and they don't enjoy it. The quality of the food is poor. I've heard of residents leaving because of this. The value for the money isn't worth it.

The food quality has decreased since change in ownership. I heard a resident complain she received the same noodle meals three nights in a row. There are no fresh vegetables served to them. The meals put together and served to them are sometimes so disgusting that they have to be thrown away.

I have lived at Walnut Park for 2 years now and during this time, [name removed] Manager, and her staff are working hard to give the residents here a safe home and following all the Carona Virus protocols, as well as making our experience here a good one. Kudos to the WP management team. Great job and keep going.

Walnut Park is a good independent living option in Visalia with enhanced amenities like meals, activities and access to rides. Apartments are good sizes and my Dad especially likes the first floor option with the backdoor. We do wish the cleaning service was better. Apparently the staff that come in will not move a thing because of concerns that have come from other residence about staff moving their things. I understand the concern, but certain things need to be moved to vacuum, clean off counters, etc. The 24 hour snack bar is a nice option for my Dad who doesn't want to go to ever meal. I just wish it was stocked with a better variety that changed over regularly and there were more healthy options. Walnut Park is providing a well valued, safe living option for my father with quite a few services included in the monthly rent.

I have no complaints about how things are going for my father since he has recently made the move into this community. The staff made the transition easy for him and have been very easy to work with . I like my dads apartment and think it is the perfect fit for him and all of his personal things. The staff also do a great job on keeping the property clean and well maintained for all of the residents.

This community is wonderful. The building is very well maintained the colors inside are bright and cheerful from the outside you would not know this is a retirement village it looks like a nice hotel. The furnishings are clean and comfortable. Emergency exits and plans are clearly visible. The staff is wonderful and very engaging with the residents. The food is fine well prepared. There is a range of activities to do if you want there is also a library if you like to read.

Another community that we toured was Walnut Park. The tour guide that we met with was knowledgeable and friendly, they took us around the building. It all came down to my mother's decision and she chose another community.

My sister-in-law toured this community and said it was beautiful and had no complaints. We decided another option because they could accommodate my father-in-law's needs better.

My mother in law is now going to be a permanent resident of the Walnut Park. I think she really likes it and enjoys the interaction with other residents. She likes having nice dining hours and her apartment is very nice.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
