When my father had a stroke, he was transferred out of the hospital and to a recovery center, I was horrified to see him strapped to a wheel chair, left in the hall because he was now suffering from dementia, and would wonder off. I started looking for somewhere for him to be taken care of with compassion and care. The first place promised to do so, and said they had memory care, and because it was a very large facility, had the personnel to take care of him. After several bruises and falls, I started looking again for a smaller, more focused place. When I met with [name removed] at Village Care, we were interviewing each other. I met the staff, and got the full run down on the facility. The price was more than the other facility, but the other facility also added on charges that ended up being over $13,000/mo. [name removed] assured me the costs she quoted would be what I would be paying, and since my father had turned off all his benefits before I realized he was suffering from mild dementia, my wife and I were paying all the bills here. [name removed] not only provided a wonderful home and care for my father, who in his state of mind, thought he was being cared for by his brother's family (he thought he was in jail at the other facilities), she was a great help when it came to navigating the medical system towards the end of my father's time with us. My family and I feel indebted to [name removed] and her wonderful staff. I read another review that said the place was too expensive. I know too expensive and this isn't it. To have your loved one cared for with home cooked meals, and genuine care...well, it's your choice, but I suggest you talk to [name removed].

Although it was a small house, it was clean, and the furnishings had seen better days. Nothing against this. All the people were in their rooms, apparently sleeping. I was told that these people pretty much stay in their beds/rooms. Sad sort of place and not what we are looking for.

One day, my father had a stroke, and our lives started down a path of figuring out how to best care for him. After a few false starts with other facilities, I decided not to make another move without thoroughly interviewing several smaller facilities. I met Gigi, and she was the first real, honest person I talked to who talked to me about my father's care, not some polished sales pitch. I don't know, looking back how I would have been strong enough to walk the rest of that journey without the care and guidance my father and I received from the wonderfully caring staff at Village Care. This is who you trust your loved ones with. By the way, the person saying it's expensive hasn't been to other facilities in the Los Angeles area like I have. When it comes to $200 or $300 more a month to ensure your loved ones are looked after with care and, most importantly respect... Money well spent.
