The staff, the cleanliness of the facility, and the activities are all very good at The Westbury Senior Living. The reason why we had to leave was because my mom was in a wheelchair and she kept falling and the physical needs were just too much for them to take care of her. So I would say if you're a family that has a loved one that needs to go there that can walk but just has dementia issues or can go to the Assisted Living part and can walk and talk, then it's a great place. In our case with my mom, it wasn't that we didn't like the place. They just weren't able to take care of her physical needs not being able to walk, and she really didn't fit in mentally with the Memory Care unit. She needed Skilled Nursing, and the facility said that they could accommodate her needs. That just wasn't the case.

We have had a great experience at The Westbury Senior Living. The staff have always been available for any questions we had about our loved one. They were helpful in understanding what my loved one might be going through. We would recommend the community to others for their loved ones.

Response from The Westbury Senior Living
April 12, 2023Thank you for your kind words and this wonderful review! If you ever need anything else from us, please feel free to give us a call or stop by. Have an awesome day!
Our tour experience with The Westbury Senior Living went very well and was newer than that place that we chose, but it wasn't a good fit for us because it was clear across town from our house. But it was a beautiful facility.
My loved one is very comfortable, but doesn't always feel the most secure. It is a beautiful facility. The care is more important than aesthetics. There has been problems with dispensing medication, lag time on responding to residents when they push their button, they're unprepared when a resident checks back in after a hospital stay/step down facility, mediocre food and service, and issues with cancelling workout classes without notifying the residents.

Things have been going good at The Westbury, it's like moving into a little apartment. As we're still trying to figure out what's what, my mom and dad seem to be doing well. They're in therapy, they're eating well and they're medications are given to them correctly; I can't complain about anything. I would give them a 4 out of 5 because of the cost, but that's the case everywhere. As far as taking care of my parents, they're doing a good job.
Westbury has been understaffed and they were not ready to open when they did. They are continuing to bring in new residents even though they have not addressed the staffing issue. There is very little consistency. There are a lot of things that they need to improve on which includes medical (sometimes there is not a nurse on staff including this weekend), the meal service and activities. Communication has been a major issue, I do a lot of things that should be taken care of by them.

They have shifts where there are no nurses at all inside of the building, I plan to call the state about this issue.

I chose The Westbury because it was brand new in November when I moved in, I have a one bedroom apartment that was bigger than other facilities I checked into, and I just really liked the staff members. The staff is really excellent, I lived in a different facility before so I have something to compare them to, they are just super. I would definitely recommend to others.

This is one of the top places in the Columbia area. I like the idea that the community has all care options in the community, from independent living to assisted living and then to memory care if necessary. The staff are great to work with if I have questions or concerns about my loved one. My loved one likes the food that is made available and I like that it is healthier for the residents.

A Place for Mom has scored The Westbury Senior Living 7.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
