Both of my parents recently moved into Oakmont of San Rafael from out of state. We spent more than a year looking at places, and I have learned that it is alllll about the people. Many places are beautiful and clean and have all the activities and great food, but what I think matters most is who is taking care of your parents. It's just like preschool...who do you trust to look after your children? From the director to the restaurant staff to the custodial staff and the technicians, the people here make it bright and fun and warm. The residents are also great! I often visit at lunchtime, and my parents are always eating with someone interesting. Everyone we have met is kind and articulate and warm. So while Oakmont San Rafael is clean and beautiful and new, and has all the the luxurious features we like, it is actually the people here that make it outstanding.... Read more

Working on their director, in a year untrained taff, no supervison, just incredibly bad place. Should not be licensed for memory care. These folks are not capable of running an ice cream stand. Run from this place

Overall it's been a good move for my parent. Not having their own home to worry about maintaining any longer has eased their stress. And I feel supported knowing that there are caregivers to check on my parent and help out when needed. However this facility has had a terrible turnover problem. It's been open only a year and they are on their third executive director and third activity director. My parent likes to get to know the staff so it's upsetting when they leave. Oakmont puts up a lavish activity list as a marketing tactic, but few of the activities actually happen. My parent has shown up at the appointed place and time and there was no Oakmont staff there--just an empty room with nothing happening. Also there has been poor follow-through when we have had a concern or complaint about the apartment. Many of the individual caregivers and staff are kind and friendly, which is wonderful. And there have been instances of inappropriate behavior-- a housekeeper logged herself into her own Netflix account on my parent's smart TV, while my parent was away from their apartment. And a male night caregiver attempted to grope several female residents in their beds, and was subsequently arrested. So the hiring and background check process could be better.

Mom moved in to the Oakmont in San Rafael less than a few months ago. The Traditions memory care team at Oakmont and other team members already feel like family members for Mom and me. This has been a tough transition for both of us and the team has really been so compassionate and supportive. I live close by and I'm able to drop by every day to visit and join in activities like daily morning stretches, brain games, garden picnics, and Thursday live music (so great!) Everyone from the receptionists, the management team, the med techs, the care givers, and the activities team truly care about what they are doing and give 150%. My family is so grateful for the loving care that the the Oakmont team provides for my Mom. And, I appreciate the emotional support and responsiveness whenever I have any questions or concerns. When faced with challenges, they are quick to find solutions. We feel lucky we found Oakmont.

Overall the care is very good. The facility is excellent. It's brand new and very clean. My only complaint really is they are still lacking some staff due to the pandemic, and it's hard for them to hire people.

Oakmont of San Rafael is a brand new facility. That was one of the attractions we had because we actually got to walk around and pick out the room we wanted. The caregivers really get to know the residents on the memory care side. They know the flow of what each of the residents like and do not like to do. They keep in great contact with the family, if I do not get an update in person then they email once a week to give progress reports and have been very responsive. The food is excellent, it is like eating at a restaurant and the meals are chef prepared. Residents get to choose off of a menu as well. The activities are wonderful, every time I go to visit mom she kicks me out because she has plans to go do something. I would absolutely recommend Oakmont to other families.

We submitted an application and deposit for my 84 year-old mother to move into this community with the assurance that a full program of diabetic care including the administration of insulin and blood sugar checks would be provided. After waiting 6 months for the community to open, we were informed after her assessment that the community would not have the necessary licensing to provide this service. It was false and misleading advertising, and I would not trust anyone there with the care of my aging parent.

Response from The Vincent
March 30, 2022Dear Jeanne, We appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback. Licensed nurses are required to perform injections and unfortunately, due to the current shortage of licensed nurses, we are unable to provide injections for our residents at this time. It was not our intent to mislead your family, and we regret that we are unable to meet your mother’s needs.

A Place for Mom has scored The Vincent 2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
