My mom was a resident at The Ostolaza Residence. I have nothing but awesome things to say of [name removed] and her staff and the care of my mom. They ended up feeling like family to me and I miss seeing them since my mom has passed. I would recommend this facility to others.

We chose this facility because when we walked in it was very comfy and cozy, my daughter was there with us and said just wanted to sit down and take a nap. [name removed] was cooking in a crockpot as well that day so the place smelled amazing. I would like to spend the night over there, it is just that comforting. The room sizes here are very nice. [name removed] had my whole family come for thanksgiving and wouldn't let us bring a thing, I really feel like [name removed] is a part of my family now. I would want others to know that my mom was on a lot of medication and she has been on top of the line for getting it organized and finding the cheapest place to go to get it. She takes my moms blood sugar many times a da and since my mom has been here, her levels are almost perfect. I would absolutely recommend.

My father’s experience was not pleasant. I was charged extra for a sitter which never happened, only to realize the “sitter became a Geri chair to confine him.” He was left to sit in this chair for hours, every day, never allowed to eat with others, no patient care giver interaction and none with the owner!!! This is the first place where the care givers are required to cook, clean, do laundry, we’re not allowed to give showers, only bed baths all at the same time while trying to attend to the patients needs ... NEVER ENOUGH STAFF!!! Staff was not allowed to discuss any medical information, including falls, bed sores, changes in health with the family, or bring to the owners attention without getting reprimanded. My father faced repercussions when I had to give 30 days notice, Had he remained there any longer, I would have lost him within hours. Many others were not as fortunate.

[Name removed] and her staff are the best! It is hard to believe but Augusta does not have a Hospice House or Hospice care center. The hospice staff that makes house calls was wonderful but they could not provide enough of the daily help those last months. Mom was too ill to be home with intermittent help and did not receive the attention she needed and was too ill to ask for in a nursing facility. Unfortunately we, the family, all live out of state and as many reading this review know it is very difficult caring for your parents from afar. [Name removed]'s house was perfect. Mom had 24 hour attention when needed and the best loving care possible. Hospice was there to monitor and provide support but Mary and her staff were responsible for comforting and caring for Mom in her final days. They were wonderful. I highly recommend [name removed] and her staff to care for a loved one.

Once we met Mary and her staff, in her home, we knew this was the place for my Mom. My ratings are based upon my Mother's needs of 24 hour companionship, but not full time care. I do believe Mary Ostolaza would provide 24 hour care but that would be on a case by case basis. My mother could not do the traditional assisted living, since her main issue was loneliness. Mother has been staying in her home with about 8 hours of care each day. The cost for this type care is a little higher than assisted living, but it is worth in our case.

A Place for Mom has scored The Ostolaza Residence - Personal Care Home 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
