Don't, just don't!!

The nursing staff was ok but the office staff, especially the Social Workers, are LAZY and REFUSE TO DO THEIR JOB!! Notified the Administrator and never heard from him. Then the staff wanted to discharge my Mother HOME, without ANYONE APPROVING IT, knowing full well she was unable to care for herself. I was lied to several times, and threatened!! This place is a NO GO!!!

Run away

They were not administrating his medications correctly, he was on a thyroid medication that he had to take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. They were giving them to him at night after a full day or eating. If you are in a shared room, it is so crammed and there is no where to sit. His cable went out while here and I asked for maintenance, they told me they did not work on weekends so they wanted him to just sit there in his room in silence. The staff were always extremely rude to me. All of his clothing was labeled and they lost more than half of his stuff, so I had to buy him a whole new wardrobe before I moved him out. I would never recommend them.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!! The staff is terrible here and no one seems to want to do their job! I, unfortunately, had to stay here for 2 months for rehab and the staff NEVER answered call bells, they gave the wrong medicines, told me wrong information--it was a nightmare!! Things got so bad that I had to take things to the head nurse, the president of the park, who both were jokes, and finally I had to call the ombudsman to get things taken care of! It's as if not one person there cares about their job or about the patients there!!

Everyone seemed so nice when they want to get you in there. It was just horrible; my sister almost died this year in there when she ran a 103 fever and no one would even come in the room. I ended up calling 911 myself and thank goodness, got her to a hosptial in time. Since then, her friend's father who is a Dentist in Richmond was given the wrong medicine and went into seizures. He thankfully left that day and never went back. STAY AWAY IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE.

The Laurels of University Park offers Private and Semi-Private. Learn more.

A Place for Mom has scored The Laurels of University Park 6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
